Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal kidney

lamictal

895207 tn?1241549652 Lamictal has less of a potential for weight gain. As for the effects of specific medications on kidney function you'd have to ask your doctor about that. That is one of the side effects monitored for with lithium with the monthly blood test and not as much of a problem with other mood stabilizers but every medication has its specific set of side effects. Lithium does have a fair amount of side effects but its also highly effective.
202665 tn?1248806733 I feel like it works very well with the rest of my medications and have never experienced a kidney stone. My suggestion is to google what can cause kidney stones. My dad was getting them because he was drinking cokes every day. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I am BP and I try to convince my pdoc to try lamictal. He put me on tegretol instead which I couldn't bare. I read good things about lamictal. Why pdocs prefer AC as MS because more effective and longlasting than AP. Although I am on seroquel which is OK, I believe the best 2 meds invented so far though not tried neither is lamotrigine (lamictal) and abilify.
574118 tn?1305135284 Actually when I was on lithium after a while it stopped being effective so I was transfered to Lamictal without any real problem. Any mood stabilizer should be transfered to another one of course under a psychiatrist's supervision but lithium can be changed in that manner just like anything else.

Avatar f tn m at my last resort after being on Depakote, Lamictal, Geodon, and Cymbalta. If anyone has had any experience with either of these drugs, I'd like to know what you thought of them.
716688 tn?1230310219 But my Anxiety Disorder got a lot worse after my Kidney Transpant, and I am also a VERY manic person, and now its gone from being called Manic Depressent to Bi-Polar. I'm on Lamictal and Time release Seroquil for my "Manic-ness" and Anxiety. I also take Xanax XR in the morning to last throughout the day. Then Xanax when I have a panic attack.

Avatar f tn t bother me or any side effects and after reviewing it very carefully as long as I keep on top of the blood tests and loads of water I am not going to wake up one day with liver or kidney failure. I am just praying that I got away from lamictal with only 2 very serious life long physical problems. Am I better off with some mania in my life that watching my physical body go to pieces. Have had a rough couple of days accepting what was done to me physically by lamictal.
Avatar f tn Hi, I would have to do some research on a lamictal tegretal study. I'm not sure whether lamictal is licensed in the UK, something else I shall have to look into.
505907 tn?1258369340 m the one who said it and I know because I was on Lithium and however low the dose was I needed the regular bloodtests. I asked my psychopharmocologist about long term kidney damage from Lamictal and he said it only occurs "when Lithium levels are not properly monitored for" and I have seen 5 people who have had this happen. Unlike tardive dyskinesia its preventable and uncommon but can only be watched for through blood monitoring.
Avatar f tn said uterus a little big -not unheard of - had 3 big kids prev. Then for depres. put on Lamictal - Octobe. Weight up sharply clear fluid retention. December, my bp raised & put on Hydrochlorot. 2,3 days & had flushing on legs, then itched insanely - NO bumps. I'd scratch it'd quit & would start on another area - occurred cyclicly 1x day. Susp. Lamictal, stopped, but not the diuretic - cont. to swel.
Avatar n tn For over four years I've delt with racing thoughts which I didn't have with lithium. I had to go off lithium because of kidney damaged. I'm currently taking 350 lamictal and 600 seroquel. I've tryed over 20 different medication for the the thoughts but they haven't helped. If it would be helpful I could list them. How do I deal with racing thougths and what medicines will help? My thoughts center around a to do list.
Avatar n tn Why do you consider a kidney problem at this point? Kidney disease may present with altered mentation but only in its severe forms . Let’s start with your thyroid function test. Also, try to share your concerns with family and friends. You need to vent out your feelings and worries as this may also provide relief. In fact, this is therapy in itself. Eat well and sleep well. I will expect to hear more from you.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I was taking lamictal for pain and fatigue problems of unknown cause for the past 4 months, I've recently been having blurred vision and headaches in the last three weeks.
524020 tn?1223161005 I was on lamictal and ativan at the same time - I was okay until my son was murderedin 1/05 - and then it seemed like nothing helped - suffered from PTSD so I was going from one med to the other - however doctor kept me on lamictal than I switched doctors and the new one put me on 400 mgs of lamictal and that's when my problems started I got bad rash and once you get a rash from lamictal you can't go back on it - however I was okay under regular dose of 200 mgs - also had problems when d
Avatar n tn I, like another commenter, am bipolar and had to change from lithium (after 18 years) to lamictal eight months ago because of thyroid problems and concern that kidney problems would follow. Lamictal has been a great drug, but in the last month my hair has thinned noticeably and my hairline is receding. I am also taking Zoloft, Wellbutrin, and Invega, so this drug "cocktail" could be the culprit in the hair thinning.
Avatar f tn I relapsed while on Lexapro and my doc started me on Effexor and Lamictal. The effexor was horrible for me, I felt awful and my blood pressure skyrocketed. The Lamictal is supposed to be a mood stabilizer. I am taking 200mg daily. My doc weaned me from Effexor and put me back on prozac 20mg (I stopped it several years back because it was making me extremely irritable). The prozac does not seem to be working like it did before.
1235186 tn?1656987798 I am on Lamictal and have no major side effects. The scary thing about it is you can get steven johnsons syndrom from it when you first start it. I have anxiety too and that scared the crap out of me and took me two days of trying to take it to build up the courage to do it. It is suppose to be a rare possible side effect though.
Avatar f tn Everyone has to increase the dosage of lamictal (lamotrigine) slowly starting at 25mg. I have been on as high as 400mg but had to drop back down to 200mg because it is an antiseizure med and I am having ECT and 400mg would interfere with that. I have been on it for years and didn't see any difference in weight with it. Other drugs I am taking are not so weight friendly. I am now exercising and trying to diet but little success. How did you lose your weight?
439168 tn?1307931740 Hi. This really isn't a question, but I wanted to pass this on to you...You might already be aware, I'm not sure....but I just called my pharmacy to refill my lamictal. I do the mail order thing and get a 3 month's supply. Lamictal didn't always have a generic....not that I'm aware of...anyway...it was costing me a whopping co-pay of nearly 180 bucks. Well, there IS a generic....I know most people don't like the generics, but they have always worked for me.
Avatar f tn I'm 19 and have been epileptic for 6 years, I have tried a variety of medications including keppra (giving me suicidal tendencies) and a couple of others which didn't control seizures. I have always been on Lamictal, which is slowly being increased after any fits or 'episodes' until the right dose for me is reached, in conjunction with this I also take Ethisuxomide, a drug that has worked well in controlling my absences.
Avatar f tn HI,I was put on Lamictal yesterday...Dr feels it might help with my deprssion as i cant seem to take antidepressants.I was in abilify but i started about 3 weeks into gettting extremely dizzy so she had me stop it last week,i saw her on Monday and she put me on 25 mg of Lam ictal as to build up to more....
Avatar f tn I have started taking Lamictal and it seems to be working to keep the mania under control. But the pills taste so bad. What are some other medication options?
