Lamictal half life

Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal half life

lamictal

202665 tn?1248806733 It depends on the half-life of the drug. One half-life means half of it is out of your systems, the second half-life means half of that half is out, and so on. It is generally accepted that after 7 half-lifes that a drug is entirely out.
Avatar n tn The half life of a drug means that the time it takes for a substance (drug, radioactive nuclide, or other) to lose half of its pharmacologic properties. So as the half life is 24 hrs, then it will loose half of its properties in 24 hrs and the next half in another 24 hrs if a repeat dose is not taken. There is no other method to clear it up fast. If the symptoms still persist after stopping Lamictal also, then pls consult a dermatologist and get eczema ruled out. Hope it helps.
574118 tn?1305135284 I feel great and depression gone. My new pdoc advised 8mg infantile to start with, but i cut it in half but felt agitated so i cut again into another half to settle for 2mg infantile in the morning. Yet i know well that the therapeutic dose is 100mg for someone who weighs 90kg i.e. 200lbs approx. so how come i am OK. Will I go back to depression? My question if someone is OK on some dosage is that alright or it will have to go up eventually.
Avatar f tn The half-life of a drug is how long it takes for half of it to be eliminated from the bloodstream. Hope that helps.
6298176 tn?1380134459 It has a very long half life, though I can't give you specifics. The dose and how long you were on it does factor in. Your doctor should be able to help you with your questions on this.
Avatar n tn I take a drug called lamictal. Prior to taking Lamictal I was extremely tired depressed ,agitated and snappy under stress. I have no enjoyment or interest in anything including my work which I use to enjoy. My only interst is the bible and going to church. I had and still have to a lesser degree racing thoughts and trouble concentrating. I have always had attention or zoning out issues since I was a child but I had always been happy.
Avatar m tn I told my p-doc I was still depressed and she suggested that we lower Lamictal instead of increasing Wellbutrin (which she said I was maxed out on). I have been a proponent of 'less medication', so I am unsure of what to ask at my upcoming new psychiatrist appointment. Since graduating, I haven't spoken with any t-doc or p-doc in around 8 months. For the last year or so I was taking 300mg/day Wellbutrin Xr and also 200mg lamictal. I have also taken Buspar for around a year.
1134609 tn?1269272200 As medication works for a specific half life (with Lamictal it depends, I when I was on it I took it once a day, other people I knew had to take it twice a day) when it runs out it can cause a flare up of the symptoms it is treating as can adjusting the dose. Keep track of it and speak to your psychiatrist as well. If that doesn't work out you can just take it the same way you did before. But that might be one issue occuring.
Avatar f tn So they started me on Lamictal a wk and a half ago. I feel more depressed than ever. I've taken lamictal before and it seems to help at obviously higher doses. Most of you know with Lamictal you have to start out slow. So I'm still on 25mg right now due to start 50mg in a few days. I don't know if I should contribute this(worsening depression) to the Lamictal or just say that it's not had enough time to work. What helped you all with your depression?
Avatar m tn From my personal experience I would try the medications and keep a log of good or ill effects, for the first 30 days to adjust for half life and discuss them with the prescribing DR. If there are ill effects notify your DR immediately.
1116472 tn?1260075052 I am on Lamictal for my Bipolar, but i have also had a seizure. i know it is also a seizure med, and my bipolar issue is WAY more important. How much of the lamictal will be helping for my actual bipolar? I'm trying to understand, the doctor said it will treat both, but i need to be sure that the motivation was not for epilepsy, because that takes a backseat to bipolar, as i have only had a couple seizures, and am not diagnosed epileptic, and my MRI showed nothing of the sort.
Avatar f tn Everyone has to increase the dosage of lamictal (lamotrigine) slowly starting at 25mg. I have been on as high as 400mg but had to drop back down to 200mg because it is an antiseizure med and I am having ECT and 400mg would interfere with that. I have been on it for years and didn't see any difference in weight with it. Other drugs I am taking are not so weight friendly. I am now exercising and trying to diet but little success. How did you lose your weight?

Avatar f tn I was already a week late when I started on Lamictal (not unusual for me to be late when I'm over stressed) Now I've been on Lamictal 25mg for a week and a half and still have not started. I've taken four pregnancy tests and they're all negative, but kinda starting to worry???
Avatar f tn I was wondering if any women who are taking Lamictal have experienced facial hair growth?
994257 tn?1266242692 I have been taking Lamictal 200mg 2x a day now for 2 years. It was working great but now the bp depression has hit me again hardcore. My pdoc has prescribed wellbutrin 150m/g to help. I have been on this combo for about 4 weeks now, and it is making be better. Does anyone else use this combo? Also, do you think there could be a way I taper off the Lamictal and just stay on the Wellbutrin? Any thoughts would be awesome.
Avatar m tn I am of the opinion that I rapid cycle! I am on 400mg of Lamictal a day. He wants to put me on Lithium, but it scare the heck out of me. There are a number of possible side effects, one being weight gain. I just got my weight under control and don't want to balloon back up. --- I like the place I am right now mentally. I feel good about myself..., but I know in the next day or two I will sink into the depths of hell. ---We also talked about moving my Lamictal up to 600mg per day?
Avatar f tn How long does it take for an increased level of Lamictal work? My doctor upped my mgs from 125 for 1 week, then 150. I've felt more restless and have a hard time comprehending things when my husband asks me a simple question, such as where is something. I don't like this feeling, but I'm holding out that this will help me, along with my current meds (Depakote, Cymbalta, Geodon). At this point, I just don't know what's working and what isn't.
552012 tn?1272855991 I just found out my 21 y/o daughter has been taking half of her doctor ordered dose in order to save MONEY! She is on lamictal, works 2 jobs, has health insurance, but Lamictal is a third tier drug for them and costs $5 a pill in the US. I bought her Zarontin (she was on that from age 3-10) before from a pharmacy in Canada. She is now buying her lamical in Canada. If you email me privately I will give you the email of that company.
1235186 tn?1656987798 I am on Lamictal and have no major side effects. The scary thing about it is you can get steven johnsons syndrom from it when you first start it. I have anxiety too and that scared the crap out of me and took me two days of trying to take it to build up the courage to do it. It is suppose to be a rare possible side effect though.
370801 tn?1264405018 It's been a year or two since I last wrote on here. These boards are great and I recommend them to a lot of people who are going through issues and questions about their medications, whether to start or stop.. Too often doctors don't seem to really give us the time and attention we all deserve when it comes to mental health medicine or else they are just not that knowledgeable about the effects of medication.
