lamictal cost

Hi. This really isn't a question, but I wanted to pass this on to you...You might already be aware, I'm not sure....but I just called my pharmacy to refill my lamictal. I do the mail order thing and get a 3 month's supply. Lamictal didn't always have a generic....not that I'm aware of...anyway...it was costing me a whopping co-pay of nearly 180 bucks. Well, there IS a generic....I know most people don't like the generics, but they have always worked for me.

The drawback is that, like many seizure meds, lamictal is very expensive (one month of 90 200mg tablets of lamictal costs ~$530/month; for lamictal XR, the cost is about $1,900) . Luckily I get help paying (only pay a few dollars, actually), but it is rediculous to have such necessary meds cost this much. Sometimes your doc can also give you a large bunch of samples....I managed to get about 6 months worth of samples, before I got help paying for the XR.

What medications are you on? Also, try to find a sliding scale doctor in your area. They are out there if you look around. My doc. currently charges me $50 for an hour long visit. Also, what meds are you on? I take lamictal, lithium, and paxil...The lamictal was costing me over $300 a month, but my doctor was able to get me on the "bridges to access" program, and now my lamictal is mailed to me monthly for no cost.

Also the upside to Lithium is it more natural then the other medications, and it only cost $4 at wal-mart hehehe. Lamictal is a little bit on the pricey side.

But then Im often intrgirued by the prescribing differences between australia and the US - i see a lot of hesitation to use some drugs over others whereas my doc here would prefer to avoid the same drugs for side effect or cost reasons - maybe thats because we have a heavily subsidised medication system and thus cost per dose is less important or some other reason I dont know - I do know that my pdoc and the 4 I have seen all use lithium as a first treatment in type 2s and non manic type 1'

Saphris and Seroquel are both in the atypical antipsychotic family, while Lamictal is in the anti-epileptic family. Lamictal is good if depression is your main issue, and it has one of the best side effect profiles of any of the mood stabilizers. It's what I'm on, and so far it seems to be working pretty well (I've gotten up to 100 mg). I haven't taken any atypicals. If he's giving you a choice, my vote is for Lamictal.

I am very comfortable with my life now, but am hesitant to stay on this medicine (Lamictal) my entire life. Advice? Also, a few months ago, a generic for Lamictal was released. It seems like the generic doesn't work as long as the Lamictal did. Is this possible?

Long story short, I have no prescription coverage at all anymore. I'm on Lamictal and Abilify, and this is not going to work (for sure the Abilify). I need suggestions to take to my pdoc today on inexpensive mood stabilizers and anti-psychotics. I have to be able to afford my meds in order to stay on them, and getting off them isn't an option.

my new physc put me on lamictal..once i went up to 200mg i felt very very spacey so i am back down to 150. about 5 weeks ago she took me off my prozac and on lithium. I started at 300mg then moved up to 600mg..at that dose i was getting very severe nausia. then last week on tues i started to cry and could not stop..you know the kind of cry where you just feel so hopeless and sad. this went on until xmas eve with feelings of paranoia and like noone liked me or wanted to be around me..

is another option which I will be doing but for ins reasons I am stuck w/ her for now so any suggestions would be appreciated also if taking lamictal what other meds (if any) are taking in combo w/ this for good results and some real stability!!!

Actually I was originally on Lithium and Lamictal was added. It was only when my psychopharmocologist saw that the Lamictal was working so well (remember it had just started usage as a mood stabilizer, this was 1998) that he gradually took me off the Lithium. I can say for standard psychiatric usage they are safe in combination with no particular interactions. I just felt a bit slogged.

I relapsed while on Lexapro and my doc started me on Effexor and Lamictal. The effexor was horrible for me, I felt awful and my blood pressure skyrocketed. The Lamictal is supposed to be a mood stabilizer. I am taking 200mg daily. My doc weaned me from Effexor and put me back on prozac 20mg (I stopped it several years back because it was making me extremely irritable). The prozac does not seem to be working like it did before.

I am on Lamictal and have no major side effects. The scary thing about it is you can get steven johnsons syndrom from it when you first start it. I have anxiety too and that scared the crap out of me and took me two days of trying to take it to build up the courage to do it. It is suppose to be a rare possible side effect though.

Everyone has to increase the dosage of lamictal (lamotrigine) slowly starting at 25mg. I have been on as high as 400mg but had to drop back down to 200mg because it is an antiseizure med and I am having ECT and 400mg would interfere with that. I have been on it for years and didn't see any difference in weight with it. Other drugs I am taking are not so weight friendly. I am now exercising and trying to diet but little success. I'm 19 and have been epileptic for 6 years, I have tried a variety of medications including keppra (giving me suicidal tendencies) and a couple of others which didn't control seizures. I have always been on Lamictal, which is slowly being increased after any fits or 'episodes' until the right dose for me is reached, in conjunction with this I also take Ethisuxomide, a drug that has worked well in controlling my absences.

HI,I was put on Lamictal yesterday...Dr feels it might help with my deprssion as i cant seem to take antidepressants.I was in abilify but i started about 3 weeks into gettting extremely dizzy so she had me stop it last week,i saw her on Monday and she put me on 25 mg of Lam ictal as to build up to more....

The depressive episodes are kind of new to me; when I was cycling a lot, it was always towards the agitated mania side of the disorder. She's been pushing Lithium off and on over the oast few months; everytime I have a down swing. But, with every increase in Lamictal, my mood stabilizes more and more. If the Lamictal isn't effective as higher doses, then so be it, I'll work with the Lithium.

How long does it take for an increased level of Lamictal work? My doctor upped my mgs from 125 for 1 week, then 150. I've felt more restless and have a hard time comprehending things when my husband asks me a simple question, such as where is something. I don't like this feeling, but I'm holding out that this will help me, along with my current meds (Depakote, Cymbalta, Geodon). At this point, I just don't know what's working and what isn't.

I bet it isn't the lamictal, it's your worries and depression. living on the edge of a cliff all the time and feeling insecure makes the person concentrate less, have volatile memory especially the short one. This happens to all of us. I believe you should do something regarding your depression. Whereas it says that antidepressants worsen mania causing rapid cycling and mixed states, but most BP pts take them to be able to function.
