994257 tn?1266242692 I am currently taking 400mg of Lamictal ODT for bipolar II disorder and to help in the treatment of migraines my periods are coming later and later every month and they are really light. Is this common for this medication. Also I'm not actively trying to get pregnant but if I do what are the risks of staying on it or should I stop immediately?
1745492 tn?1320198340 I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It's not severe, but I need medication. I'm on Lamictal. My symptoms were a lot worse before starting this medication. The only thing I still notice are occasional anger/rage episodes. I will yell, throw and kick things, and break things. I've never hurt anyone else. Nothing seems to trigger them, though. Or if something does happen before one, it is very minor and doesn't constitute that amount of anger.
Avatar n tn Recently, I went to the doctor for ADHD (after putting this off year after year) I briefly spoke about the depression to him and he mentioned Bipolar II. I said, oh no I was just depressed - I was immature and blah blah blah. So, I get prescribed Vyvanse and nothing - just extreme tension and irritability. I see him again and he offers to subscribe me Lamictal for my "disorganized thoughts".
994257 tn?1266242692 I am currently taking Lamictal 200 mg 2x a day for Bipolar II disorder. I have been on it for 2 years now and it has been great. I recently have had a case of bp depression so I was prescribed Wellbutrin 150 mg once a day. I have been on it for about 3 weeks now and I am doing alot better. I have not been hypomanic in 6 years just depressed ocasionally. My ultimate goal is to be off all meds by next year so I can start trying for a baby.
Avatar f tn Did they diagnose you BP I or II? For BP II, the consensus I've seen from a few psychiatrists as well as patients, is that lamotrigine (Lamictal) is the best med to try first for BP II. It's approved for BP I as maintenance, but it doesn't have so much anti-manic activity. It's great for depression. I'm on lamotrigine for BP II, now at 200 mg, and it's done wonders.
Avatar n tn My doctor told me he would not put me on lamictal because i have bipolar 1 and it doesn't help bipolar 1. I am on depokote now and have gain 65 lbs in a year. And guess what borderline dietbetic now. Is that great or what? Should I go to a different doctor ? He , himself told me to. But I hate changing Doctors.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am 23 and was diagnosed bipolar when I was 18 or 19 I can't remember. Right now im taking welbutrin, risperdal, ativan, seroquel, and lamictal. The problem I have is a strange feeling in my head that moves around. It goes away when I place my hands on my head and i'm wondering if it's a symptom of bipolar.
Avatar n tn Why not ask them if they changed or updated your diagnosis because in someone with bipolar anti-depressents can worsen mania. Lamictal is a good mood stabilizer and has a strong anti-depressent effect. The problem is it can be only be raised at a very slow rate so if you have symptoms in the meantime they might give you something else to keep things stable. Speak to your psychiatrist about what your diagnosis is and exactly how they intend to manage it and what available options are.
1310468 tn?1274863925 Lamotrigine and some other anti-convulsant medications are approved for maintenance treatment in bipolar I disorder, because they have something to do with altering the excitability threshold of certain neurons. We're not yet entirely sure how that helps to control mood instability in bipolar disorder, but they are proven to be very effective in this regard. The good thing about lamotrigine in particular is that it can also have an anti-depressant on top of the mood stabilization!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed as Bipolar II after having been treated marginally for social anxiety and depression for 15 years. I withdrew from Paxil. I am slowly weaning from Klonopine while adding Lamictal. My beginning dose for one week was 25mg. This week, I am on 50mg. My racing thoughts have diminished as have confusion and rapid speech. I can't believe I am saying this, but I think I am too happy. I worry that I am having mania. I have trouble controlling my laughter in public.
Avatar f tn I was put on Lamictal for Bipolar Cat II last week. I have noticed that I am actually more agitated easier. My Dr kept me on my Zoloft until this med gets balanced out. Is this normal? It scares me some because it's the manic episodes I experience before more often. It's like this morning I got mad at my cat for sneezing on my while I was trying to get my clothes and leave for work. That is NOT like me :-( Normally I am the one laughing bc he's sneezed on my husband.
790165 tn?1268836968 I got told by my new counsolor to go back to a phsyc doctor the get my meds reevaluated. I'm bipolar type II and she's thinking my 60 MGS of Cymbalta are doing nothing (I know they're not because I've had a couple thoughts of suicide that passed my mind). Well she's thinking mood stabilizers are a good idea as well. I don't know now if this post goes better in general health or here but I have heart problems.
Avatar m tn Hello, I've been experiencing severe bouts of depression on and off with horrible anxiety since I was about 14 years old. I'm now 21 and I was diagnosed as bipolar II last year and since then I've been experimenting with different medications with my psychiatrist to help find the best possible treatment. I tried lamictal for a while but it didn't work for me and I think it made my anxiety worse.
Avatar m tn Hi, There are many different medications used in the treatment of Bipolar I and II. I think the only difference between the two is that with Bipolar I there is more chance of the requirement of an anti-psychotic - although these are also used for BP II. Confused? Don't be! Here are a few that I have tried, or have been suggested. There are slight differences between your country and mine and the generic names for which I apologise.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar II ten years ago. I have been taking 150mg wellbutrin, 1mg valium, and 15mg lamictal for it. I recognize that Bipolar I is more severe, however the usual dose for anyone with Bipolar disorder is between 25mg-200mg. Listen, doctors will truly mess up your life without intending to.
1252901 tn?1271131868 I have been on Lamictal for about 4 years, but I don't think it's doing any good controlling my bipolar II. I've been using the mood tracker and it's showing extreme ups and downs, and I can certainly tell I still have symptoms. The question is, what do you thinks works best for bipolar II? (or whatever one is NOT rapid cycling) I'm afraid of lithium because when my boyfriend was on it, his emotions were completely out of control and i'm not about to risk that.
1220347 tn?1345428521 t understand why he wrote lexapro plus lamictal unless your depression is really bad. should be cautious if you have a bipolar disorder then antidepressants can drive you manic after a while. so better to seek advise from a pdoc. if on the other hand have simple unipolar depression then an antidepress...
Avatar m tn ve found that lamical is very effective for bipolar II, however not as effective for the manic eposodes associated with bipolar I, and that concerns me. I was wondering if anyone could recomend something that more effective with Bipolar I?
Avatar m tn Hi, this is mrgilpo, I am married to gilpo who is new to this board and was just recently diagnosed bipolar II. We have been married for almost 16 years and have been dealing with her mental illness since her first diagnosis 12 years ago. Since she has clinical depression, I know how to live with a depressed person. Problem is, she hasn't been completely honest with me, other family and her doctors until now.
1967424 tn?1325633780 Are you diagnosed as bipolar I or II? Bipolar I is probably a good enough reason to be medicated in some way, since mania can be so destructive, but bipolar II with few episodes might be controllable with therapy. Depression can be quite destructive too, so the question is really how much does whatever mood disorder you have **** with your daily life, your happiness, and your ability to function?
Avatar f tn I have read that this can work wonders for rapid cycles in bipolar patience. I ussually do some research and tell my doctor what I think so I don't have to worry about suffering from unexpected side affects that we're not properly explained when I was put on the medication. And I refuse to take any medicine that has a good chance of weight gain ( I was 5''2 and 200 pounds a few years ago) I don't want to gain that weight bak. Has anyone tried this medicine before?
1441157 tn?1284075251 I have bipolar 2 disorder. I have done fine on Lamictal at 200mg for years. after a while we had to add Klonpin for anxiety and up it. I am now on 3 mg. I went through a long depression and decided to take Cymbalta, After about 2 months I had no sexual fuction (female), headaches, constipation, excessive sweating. I weaned off. Felt great for a few weeks now I am depressed again. I get triggers. What can I take for depression with low side effects? Like no weight gain and sexual disfuction.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed last summer with bipolar type II and I began to doubt the diagnosis and I realized that my psych had me overmedicated...there was literally no animation in my face so I gradually (over six weeks got off the meds.) I also believe that I don't suffer from BP and PTST but a sleep disorder. Even though I have serious insomnia, I'm staying in bed for 8 to 9 hours and probably getting more than the 4-6 I was getting at the time of my diagnosis.
1666903 tn?1383332156 I have not had any glucose testing yet, but had the impression my glucose levels were creeping up (I have NIDD Type II). Started Lamictal a little over a month ago an gradually increased dose, on 100 mg now and my glucose is unquestionably elevated above 175, I am going in for a blood test to confirm this and ask my doc what to do about it. Both drugs are helping with my bipolar.
Avatar m tn I have been recently diagnosed as Bipolar II although i already had one episode of hypomania about 4 years ago, although my psychiatrist was reluctant to give me a diagnosis because i was using a lot of class As especially uppers like MDMA and Coke. I am now not taking street drugs very often and have had my diagnosis.
