Avatar n tn I used valproic acid 5 years.I stop taking the drug and no seizures for 8 years. After I had the first time seizure and ı went a doctor, he did not give me drug. After 2 years I had seizure again and I started using lamictal 75 mg. I'm using 2.5 years. For a year, I have amenorrhea and eye floaters. I got about 30 kilos. It was very difficult to get used to the drug. Re-live the same things I'm afraid to go to the doctor. What should I do, I need help. These side effects are serious?
Avatar f tn s what you were speaking about. I was prescribed Neurontin at the same time as Lamictal and I believe I was told by my psychopharmocologist that one enhances the effect of the other. Obviously that would be something to speak to your psychiatrist about but they would be the ones to prescribe it regardless.
Avatar f tn m also taking Valproic Acid (2500 mg/ day), Lamictal (300 mg/ day) and Dilantin (500 mg/day) for seizures. All my other blood tests are in range. Can anyone tell me if this is a dangerously high level, i.e., liver or kidney damaging?

Avatar m tn I have been taking 2 medication for the last 7 years, Lamtrogine and Valproic Acid (Depakote) I needed to change as they stopped being effective and last year I was all over the place including suicidal in the fall. Avatar n tn The lack of sleep may also contribute to this, since neurons are easily depolarized and excited by the lack of sleep. Other drugs would include carbamazepine, neurontin, or valproic acid, but I suggest you talk to her neurologist about this first. I hope the seizures can be controlled soon. Regards and God bless.

1108183 tn?1292416673 I just started taking Methotrexate after recently being diagnosed with RA, and have been taking Lamictal for years now for my depression. I read that both Lamictal and Methotrexate depletes your body of folic acid. My question is- If I take a multi vitamin that has 200 mgs of vitamin C and 400 mcg's of folic acid- would it be too much to take another 500 mgs of vitamin C and 800 mcgs of folic acid on top of the multi vitamin? I just want to take extra precautions from getting sick.
Avatar m tn Hi It does sound like myoclonus, more specifically stimulus-sensitive myoclonus which is when the jerks are triggered by something, in your case it seems to be light. As gman15 said, you should be going to a neurologist to check it out and a few tests should be run to make sure there is not a more serious underlying disorder.
1994124 tn?1422574099 Im on 250mg depakote extended release and 200mg lamictal now , once a day. Im on transition to lamictal as per advice by my neurologist. I also take 4mg of folic acid to safeguard my pregnancy.
Avatar f tn As you mention, valproic acid has various side effects, weight gain is a common one. Other antiepileptic medications do not cause weight gain, but each has its side effects, some are much more tolerable than others. While it is great news that your MRI has not shown any tumor recurrence, this does not necessarily imply that you are no longer at risk for seizures.
Avatar n tn I had a vitrectomy for epiretinal peel six months ago. Dr. says scar tissue has formed again and I am scheduled for the same surgery next week. My vision did not improve. What are the chances of improvement this time? I AM ALSO TAKING AN EXPERIMENTAL DRUG FOR 4 MONTHS "VALPROIC ACID".

646410 tn?1247251853 I haven't been on Prozac for years. It was really bad for me. I take valproic acid & (I think) Celexa, not to mention a bunch of other meds for allergies. Nearly all of them warn "drowsiness may occur." Ugh. I'm not going off of any of the drugs until the Dr's tell me to.
505907 tn?1258369340 Hi, I have heard the Lithium is good for treating the depressive side of bipolar. I did not want lithium and so I am on depakote (valproic acid), it does help level the moods a little but doesn't exactly "lift you", I've tried AD's along side and had disastrous results. Each of us is different, not just in how our BP presents but in how our bodies react to medications. It is a case of trying until you find the one that suits you.
Avatar f tn Now he is on valproic acid and doing much better. I have heard others say the same but about valproic acid, so I assume that the reaction that they have to meds is a personal one...each child is different!! Make sure that this child is seeing a neurologist or epileptologist....Keep a jouranl of all modd, behavior, physical and social issues and bring these up to the dr. This will help them determine when a med needs to be changed.
Avatar f tn He has officially gained 9 pounds in one months time while taking Risperdone alone (no longer taking Adderall XR which had offset the appetite). Also taking Valproic Acid to control seizures and Paxil for anxiety. Thanks again!

Avatar m tn I saw your same question on another site which got some expert advice that said, "There are two other anticonvulsants that doctors use to treat intractable hiccups: valproic acid and gabapentin." I hope that you saw it which was posted before your answer back to me. But in case not, I've included it here. Hope that it might help.
