Common Questions and Answers about Lamictal and epilepsy

lamictal

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed about a year ago with Epilepsy and put on Lamictal. My question is, when God willing the time comes, what is the track record with these drugs and pregnancy and breast feeding?
Avatar n tn Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.

Avatar f tn I'm a 32 year old male and I've been suffering from grand mal and partial complex seizures for almost 20 years. I take Keppra and Lamictal, and thought I don't have any problems getting and keeping an erection, I find it almost impossible to ejaculate when I'm with my partner. Even when I masturbate, it takes a lot of time and concentration to achieve orgasm.
629808 tn?1222245070 Hello, i am currently taking Lamictal. I have been absolutly fine for the 2 years i have been taking this medication for, until recently (3weeks). I have been having really bad jerking of the body and mouth. My doctor has told me that it is down to stress and anxiety, but i think its more to do with my Epilepsy.
Avatar f tn s what you were speaking about. I was prescribed Neurontin at the same time as Lamictal and I believe I was told by my psychopharmocologist that one enhances the effect of the other. Obviously that would be something to speak to your psychiatrist about but they would be the ones to prescribe it regardless.
6691229 tn?1392139790 Mine is triggered by sleep deprivation as well, juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. I stayed on my meds with both of my pregnancies and was closely monitored by my neurologist. No issues with either pregnancy, due 2/26 with baby 2.
Avatar m tn My big fear is epilepsy Oxy use to make me shake and bite my tongue but since i been on 200mg Lamictal it has stopped I read Flexeril may cause seizure but then I also read the opposite. Even if I am not epileptic I like to play it safe as my Doc is out, and the pharmacy worker never seems to know anything. So does Flexeril increase seizure risk or is that just for (diagnosed) epileptics? I don't want to add it to the oxy and have a attack.
Avatar f tn Have you looked up the side effects to lamictal? And my daughter just started taking lamictal .Just found out last week she was having seizures. My son also has seizures and know medicines have helped him even the VNS and still has seizures every day, your daughter should have an IEP if she doesn't already ,And the school should know how to work with a child who has seizures to help her.
Avatar f tn I then started having jerks especially in the morning and if tired. The doctor diagnosed epilepsy and I was put on epilim. I then moved house and started to see a neurologist from the local hospital. This doctor looked at my case history and diagnosed myclonic epilepsey and also changed my medication to lamictal, this drug is definately less effective than epilim but apparently safer during pregnancy.
452529 tn?1361847855 My son has been treated fro Epilepsy for 2 years. None of the meds have worked He too, is on Lamictal and (Keppra 1500mg three times a day) and he is a different person. We have just discovered that he may not have Epilepsy, but an autonomic nervous system disorder called Neurocardiogenc syncope. I would like to hear details of your seizures activity....when do they occur, and what are you doing at the onset or shortly before.....
Avatar n tn it is an inflammation of the protective layer over the brain and spinal cord. it can cause deafness, epilepsy, hydrocephalus, cognitive deficits and it can also be fatal. some of the symptoms are a headache, stiff neck, high fever and altered mental status. i see that you've put lamictal as your question. it has been recently found out that lamictal can have menegitis as a side effect but it is only in very rare cases.
Avatar f tn My 16 year old daughter has a history of epilepsy - partial complex and petit mal seizures, plus a brain injury at birth and one at 8 years old. Her last 3 EEG's have been normal. She currently takes Lamictal 50 mgs BID and Zonegram 100 mg for seizures, plus Focalin for ADD. Two months ago she messed up her meds and accidently took 25 migs Lamictal BID instead of 50. About 3 weeks later she started what looked like tics at first - neck and head jerking - and they worsened.
Avatar m tn I have heard that the drug Lamictal is also a Blood Thinner, was wondering if there is any truth behind that. Thanks for help.
Avatar f tn I have been treated for tension headaches and migraines since 2009. I was diagnosed with JME when I was 13. I'm currently on 150 topamax and 500 lamictal for seizures. I have tried antimigraines, analgesics, muscle relaxants, nonsteroidal-anti-inflammatory and steroids, ssnri antidepressants and obviously acetaminophen and aspirin for headaches . I have one every single day but the severity of it varies. Within the past few days I have noticed slight shaking and weakness in my hands.
Avatar f tn I know Lamictal has a strong anti-depressent effect including when I took it and dizziness is a common side effect at first (including with me) but it generally passes in time.
Avatar f tn hi, i was just wandering if epilepsy medication (lamictal) and antibiotics can affect the how effective the IUD is??
Avatar f tn I am not a proffesional at this far from it finding out I had epilepsy after a witness grandmal a year and a half ago. I get upset before having a seizure. sometimes off and on in the evening when i start settling down and then after going to sleep i have a big one. Sort of like people with pms. I pretty much get all the symptoms. I just finished (2 days ago) a video eeg that lasted 8 days.

Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with a temporal lobe seizure disorder about 40 years ago. During that time I have always had trouble with being able to think in the right way. Habits, anger, anxiety, constant second guessing, racing thoughts, obsessive thoughts etc. I have been on different anticonvulsants, and am now on lamictal. None have been of any great help. Is this part of the disease?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed years ago with Complex Partial Seizure and have had Epilepsy in some form or another since 1975. I started having the symptoms of Frontal Lobe Siezures about 6 months after my first accident. I was struck over the head with an Inch thick beer mug with enough pressure to give me a small skull fracture and 3 inch laceration cut on top of my head in Germany. Six months later I started having siezures.
Avatar n tn t like the sexual side effects. Lamictal, though, seems to only be approved for treating bipolar disorder and epilepsy. I have never been diagnosed with bipolar disorder nor do I have epilepsy. Is my psychiatrist really going out on a limb prescribing Lamictal for anxiety/depression?
