Avatar f tn She is on a ketogenic diet to help with the Lyme, so she gets low carbs, no sugar or processed foods, no dyed foods, no grains. I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Anything specific ringing a belly that I should look deeper into? Is there a connection to children's emotions and lyme, or is this two separate issues?
Avatar f tn I agree that food intolerances can cause behaviours in autistic children. But they also cause behaviours in 'normal' children. If those foods are removed from the diet of an autistic child the reduction in headaches, tiredness, irritability etc is obviously going to make the child happier, more alert, less impulsive/avoidance behaviours etc. But the child's brain is still essentially wired up autistic.
Avatar n tn Yes, many autistic children do improve with these types of therapy and some recover quicker than others. Yes, there are some autistic children who may need assistance their entire lives. I have seen some autistic children in the type of programs your child is in who progress very quickly from the start, some who don't progress at all and then begin to progress later on, and some who do not show signs of progress for many years and may need therapy for the rest of their life.
Avatar f tn Dietary Treatment for ASD Dietary treatment of children with “behavioral problems” is not new. Beginning in the 1920s, dietary restriction was used to improve behavior.13 In the 1970s Dr. Benjamin Feingold reported that 50 percent of hyperactive and learning disabled children improved when placed on diets free of salicylates, preservatives, sugars, and additives.14 Over the years, Feingold’s diet was modified and salicylates occupied a less prominent position in dietary regimens.

Business woman1 Although we would rather not, sometimes she will bit, scratch herself and others including all of us in the family as well as become aggressive and have major meltdowns. She (steimy) really needs to get him evaluated to know for sure...

Avatar f tn I noticed on the website that this diet can help with depression and suicidal thoughts. It also helps with violent behavior and insomnia. I've been adding a lot of the food into my everyday life and can personally tell you I feel pretty good. The diet eliminates foods with chemicals and dyes and even apples. Goodbye M&Ms and Skittles. To get the shopping guide and brochures is a bit expensive. Type in Feingold diet to find their website. Would you try the diet?
Avatar n tn Ignore Matrix's comment about needing a spanking because he is a spoiled brat. He does need a time out. Kids who don't understand things very well, if you spank them, might learn that violence is okay. He might think it's okay to hit. What if another kid does something wrong? he might spank or hit them, thinking well mommy and daddy spank/hit me if i do something wrong. My daughter started pulling my hair when she's really upset and angry.

Avatar f tn My child was born @ 27weeks. He was resesitated at birth. could that have affected him in any way? I have many issues with him. I'm afraid of going places with him because of the way he acts up. He does not talk yet so it's very hard to communicate with him. He seems to understand some things I say to him but for the most part he alway's seem's like his mind is racing at 100 mph. It's like he does not comprehend what i'm saying.
Avatar f tn I know small children sometimes grow curious with their feces and will touch or play with it. The difference in my child is that no matter the amount of time, talking, disciplining, teaching, and talking to the pediatrician, he has not outgrown this behavior, but begun to hide it. He goes in the toilet most of the time and has some issues with wiping correctly and sometimes holding it long enough to get to the bathroom.

Avatar m tn I have a child in my preschool class who just turned 3 and has been with me for about 2 weeks. After the first few days of school, I noticed that he was really behind all of the other children and acted more like a 2 year old. Everything from his speech (repetitive echo speech) to the way he moved around so clumsily, to circle time reminded me of a much younger child. There are obviously some issues.

Avatar f tn If your motherinlaw works with kids who are severely autistic, she may feel that your son doesn't have autism because maybe he can speak and interact with people to some degree. My mother for a couple years was a special education teacher's assistant who had a couple of severely autistic children in her classroom, along with other kids who had some serious emotional disabilities. These are kids that would probably not be able to hold jobs after becoming adults.
Avatar n tn Our son has recently been diagnosed with anaplastlastic astrocytoma grade3 in the thalamus part of the brain. He is 5 yrs. old. We are very scared and if there are any other people out there that can give us any suggestions or support we would be grateful.
Avatar n tn You honestly need to stop recommending to medicate every child that shows a behavior issue!!!!!!!!!! You answer every question with "treatment is behavior methods and medications"! You cannot be serious! Please get off this forum!!!
Avatar n tn most typical people can discriminate when it is acceptable to engage in these behaviors, while many children with autism cannot. For example, if I am home alone, I may whistle and crack my knuckles, but I would not do those things in a meeting with my boss! So, one thing to start teaching is the difference between private and public environments. For many children, automatically-reinforced behaviors such as this can occur when environmental stimulation is low.
