Avatar f tn I agree with Sandman, and found this website on the possible side effects of the ketogenic diet. It is apparently not to be used in the long term, as it doesn't provide adequate nutrition for a growing child. Side effects include hyperactivity, irritability and constipation (which as Sandman noted can result in encopresis, involuntarily soiling). I'm also interested in your statement "she's just like me".
Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
Avatar m tn Hi, First of all, I am really sorry that your Mom’s Breast cancer has spread to her brain and breast too…My heart goes out to you and the family having to go through this difficult time.:( Regarding treatments and the diet you are suggesting ,it's really hard to say if it will actually work for her. I am sorry if I can’t give any advice about this, since cancer treatment differs greatly from person to person.

Avatar f tn In 2009, my daughter could hardly walk, because she had such bad knee and hip pain. The results came back positive again, and the orthopedist (who the incompetent pediatrician sent us to), said she needed hip surgery! His staff misread the lyme results as well. By now my daughter was unable to focus, concentrate or remember. She had severe scalp pain (which started in 2007 and is present to date) as well.
Avatar n tn There is recent research about ketogenic diet and nutritional ketosis being beneficial for management of heart failure and weight loss. You may want to look further into this. Some cardiologists are beginning to support this approach, although some also follow the opposite approach of very low fat, low salt, etc....
Avatar m tn constant lightheaded, dizziness, pins and needles, numbness, trouble seeing in the dark, sensitive to light, brain fog, fatigue, memory issues, excessive thirst especially after waking up. These led me to have severe anxiety problems that caused additional symptoms. I went in for an MRI and they said a large cyst in my maxillary sinus could be causing some of the effects.
Avatar n tn I started a ketogenic diet on Saturday and the last few days I've been feeling gassy and have slight "cramps", around the belly button area. Why is that?
10094372 tn?1407761844 I had full body seizures from magnesium deficiency. Also look into the ketogenic diet (low carb, high fat diet). Here is one excerpt from Diet Doctor's article" How a Diet Change Can Free People from Epilepsy... "I’ve now gone four months without medication and no seizures. Avatar n tn Given your current situation and your extremely high blood sugars, if you want to reduce then using diet, then a very low carb diet / ketogenic diet would be the way to go. This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.
20797525 tn?1510602613 I've been trying to lose weight for a long time. It seems the older I get the heavier. My most recent A1C was 5.4 ( which is higher than I'd like.) I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 11 years old. I've never been good at remembering to take my meds. I was prescribed Metformin 50mg to start. Now as an 11-year-old child I expected to feel better instantly. I was angry when that didn't happen and I saw no immediate results. I stopped taking the medication out of sheer anger.
Tbd even the US CDC says cholesterol in the diet is not a concern. Also when carbs are removed from the diet then some other form of energy is needed... fat. I eat under 50 gr of carbs a day and have been since 2000.
Tbd key words will be low-carb, and keto. If you do look into ketogenic diet, do not use it as an excuse to eat too much fat; if you want to lose weight fat has to be limited to fats that come naturally with the foods that you eat, rather than lots of extra fats being added. There are now many cases where this has happened (you can look up Virta Health a company that tries to guide patients to do this), and there are also many online supportive communities.
Avatar m tn Constantly exhausted, extreme intolerance to heat, dry/itchy skin that almost drives me insane and for which I have to always be taking Benadryl to get any relief, depression, muscle aches throughout my body, constant pounding headaches from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed and I wake up in the middle of the night with a headache and am then up for anywhere from 2-3 hours, forgetfulness and serious problem concentrating. I have also gained about 15 lbs in the last couple years.
Avatar m tn An electroencephalogram (EEG) is usually done to measure and record the electrical activity of your brain. It can diagnose epilepsy and see what type of seizures are occurring. You may also benefit from a referral to other specialist or get a second opinion from another neurologist for proper diagnosis. Your medical history, physical and neurological examination, and results of the previous tests done are important in the evaluation. Take care and regards.
