Avatar f tn I was excercisin religiously and watching my carb intake.i was eating between 100 to 150gms of carbs. I was not on a ketogenic diet. After that visit i have been extremely ill. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. blood sugar dropping rapidly when after exercise. My doctor said it could be the phentermine but that the metformin xr could also be reacting to the phentermine. I stoped the metformin, felt better then my sugar started going up.
Avatar f tn What I found as the most effective way to do this is via a ketogenic diet. There is a great book called the Art and Science of Nutritional Ketosis, by Dr Phinney and Dr Volek. There are a lot of free youtube videos by both doctors Phinney and Volek who describe how to lose fat, while protecting and building physical and athletic strength. Really good stuff. So, through proper nutrition, you can lose the fat and maintain/build muscle. Hope this helps. Good luck!!

I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Anything specific ringing a belly that I should look deeper into? Is there a connection to children's emotions and lyme, or is this two separate issues?
Avatar f tn I also think that one must first be mentally stable with their condition and meds before taking on the task of diet and fitness. In the throws of a deep depression changing diet and fitness habbits would be very rough at best. Pick a time to start when your doctor has you reasonably stablized. This will improve your chances of success. Don't let your meds dictate your body image. They can't make you fat if you do the right things.

This is as close as i can find to nail polish; acetone is an ingredient in nail polish remover. The reason for ketosis is due to not enough glucose and so the body has to break down stored fat and convert it into energy instead. Metabolizing fat raises blood ketone levels therefore leading to ketosis.

Avatar f tn why not to do this type of diet for 2 weeks, then let your body to adjust (and perhaps to get used to) your new state, perhaps to gain a bit of water and weight back, and then repeat this operation 4-6-8 times, as needed. My reasoning is that it could be milder on the body, less taxing for the kidneys. Perhaps it would cost more, but right now I am not considering this side of the diet.

Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.

Made by the autor of The Paleo Diet and The Paleo Diet for Athletes (very intresting books). I dont have enough knowledge about this condition to give you my opinion, sorry. I think that you can get good information at the Institute of Functional Medicine (google it) I just can give you some advice what you should try to avoid.

Avatar n tn Given your current situation and your extremely high blood sugars, if you want to reduce then using diet, then a very low carb diet / ketogenic diet would be the way to go. This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.
