Avatar f tn She is on a ketogenic diet to help with the Lyme, so she gets low carbs, no sugar or processed foods, no dyed foods, no grains. I have called her pediatrician and scheduled an appointment to evaluate her, but thought I would ask here as well, because it'll be two weeks before they can see her. Thoughts, insights? Anything specific ringing a belly that I should look deeper into? Is there a connection to children's emotions and lyme, or is this two separate issues?

Avatar m tn Hi. Do you have insurance? If you can, it might be a good idea to find a primary care physician to discuss this with. I've found that going to the emergency room is rarely helpful unless you've got bones sticking out of your body or something they can plainly see is life threatening. I hope you'll get some answers and feel better.

Avatar n tn May I suggest you do some research on the Ketogenic Diet. It is a huge lifestyle change, but is totally worth it. Ketogenic lifestyle requires that you cut out almost all carbs. You eat less than 20g of carbs a day, moderate amount of protein 50-100g/day (60-75 is ideal for most people), and 100-150g fat/day. It is a high fat diet that switches your body from using carbs for energy to using fat for energy.
1255505 tn?1272819115 I started this due to high lipids though, and my triglycerides and LDL have plummeted while my HDL (good cholesterol) has risen. This is true even though I began to eat a high meat (and fat) and vegetable diet about 9 months ago. I avoid grains, potatoes, milk, fruit juice, and sugar. This (I think combined with Lamicatal) has also resulted in a 30 pound weight loss.

Avatar n tn Given your current situation and your extremely high blood sugars, if you want to reduce then using diet, then a very low carb diet / ketogenic diet would be the way to go. This diet however, may still not be enough to get your sugars down and you may still need insulin / other meds. Please know that if you eat a ketogenic diet you need to follow it strictly.
2143567 tn?1342539031 Too your downs are listed as a 5 and quite often bipolar depression rests closer to a 3, and has suicidal thoughts. Again is doesn't have to - you have to have thoughts of death which you have. It is a possibility in my mind based on the limited information I see in an post, not a slam dunk for sure you've got it. And it would likely be bipolar 2 not 1 as you don't describe a truly manic moment in there.
Avatar m tn Not seeing a doctor at least once in a while doesn't sound like a good plan (although it's understandable if your doctor is awful and you can't switch). Coping skills are certainly and essential part of dealing with bipolar disorder, but they are far from enough for the majority of people with the illness. I have my problems with this analogy, but consider diabetes.
Avatar f tn I read that Its 50/50. Depends though, I know ppl that are bipolar and have three kids, one has mood disorder. I'm bipolar, so is my husband and were having a baby in Nov. So I'm curious to see how this will work out. Either way what better people to help a child or someone deal with it then someone who actually has it themselves.

Avatar m tn I feel like I'm having a mind seizure sometimes. We still have very little knowledge of the mind and brain, though we are learning more and more. We don't really know why bipolar meds work, there are theories, but no hard science. I find addiction and bipolar to be more similar than seizures and bipolar.
