Now he can only be described as disrespectful, disobedient, argumentative, rude and sometimes enraged. Hence ‘Keppra rage.’ He finally being weaned off Keppra and onto Vimpat. We pray that this is the answer. What happened to our silly, fun-loving, laid-back boy? Any idea that this is “just teenage hormones” is completely misguided. This is my fourth son and also fourth TEEN aged son.
The seizures stopped on there on in the emergency room. The emergency room put her on Keppra, that is when the real nightmare stared. She stopped sleeping, had wild mood swings, hallucinations, rage, screaming and attaching (no behavioral problems ever before this). She would hug me for an hour at a time, and leave blood scratch marks on my back. Anxiety was very high. We took her off the Keppra (a call to the children’s hospital confirmed to do this).
With sensory issues in children, you have to figure out what sets them off. I have over-sensitive senses myself, so I know what going through life is like with that. Figuring out what senses she is over or under sensitive to helps. Sometimes people will crave one sense and avoid another. Sometimes they will crave something that will overstimulate them. Anyways, figuring out what is called a "sensory diet" if you haven't already should help you.
my 7 year duaghter has Nocturnal Complex Partial seizures and has been on Keppra liquid for 1 year now. they just increased her dose to 8 ml in the am and 10 ml in the pm. she has been extremely grumpy, irritable and very down in the slumps. Has anybody else experienced this? the Dr. thinks that she should talk to a Shrink, but I think it all has to do with the medication as she is normally a very happy, loving and caring girl...now she is very pessimistic on EVERYTHING!!!
1 hour after I got home he had a Tonic Clonic seizure and turned blue. I called 911. They look him to Children Hospital in St. Paul. They put him the Epilepsy Unit and did an EEG. They found 5 other Myclonic seizures in his sleep. MRI looked fine and all blood tests came back fine. They diagnosed him with Generalized Infant Benign Epilepsy. They put him on Keppra. So far I have only witnessed 2 little jerks, I guess they are Myoclonic seizures.
Does anyone have experience with a young child that has rage attacks from chiari my baby is 21months old and after being in the intensive care unit for uncontrolled seizures we now have a chiari diagnoses with rage attacks they thought where seizures my son does have seizures but not as many as they thought the rest are rage attacks.
He ran around in a circle continuously and destroyed everything in the office in a matter of minutes (he was totally out of control). I would question why is she behaving this way? What can make it better? A calm parent who can pull herself back from the situation and observe. When children are extremely out of control, I start singing and they usually calm down. The more anger the child has, the more calm the parent should get. It appears that something is bothering this child.
That gives you cerebellar (shirnks the one side of your brain) put him on Keppra. My doctor put me on Keppra instead of Dilantin....I was already on diamox and tegratol. Now I'm taking keppra,diamox and tegertol and my seizers are under control, they will never be gone for good. I have had them since I was 12 and now I'm 54 but I'm down to about 3 every month or two and they were not under conrol that much until I started taking Keppra.
My five year old has Epilepsy and on medication (Keppra) - I attached a heart monitor watch for her for peace of mind and I have noticed her heart rate during sleep goes down to 51 bpm - I am worried this is too low.....what should it be ? Thanks.
They were not very good today and i think thats what started my rage. it was really scarey i have never felt like that in my life before my beathing was all crazy my blood was boiling i was so upset i felt like i had the devil in me. it was really scarey. my children are so young and they dont undestand what im going though. i am ashamed for sceaming at them the way i did but i just felt like i couldnt help it. it then it went away and i was just sad crying for the way i was acting.
Also, I wanted to know if anyone has tried Keppra for seizure activity in dogs and if so, how did that work? Our 6 year old French Mastiff had a seizure on Thursday night - first one ever. He walked across our bedroom floor, stood in front of our open door and acted like he saw someone in the hallway. I sat up and said "Archie, there is no-one there. Go back to bed." Then he looked like he was rubbing his shoulder on the clothes hamper and I thought it looked really weird.
My brother takes 2,000mg of Keppra twice a day. He is now in the "donut hole" of his Medicare coverage. I am now paying $770 per month for his Keppra. My question is Is there some way he or I can get help paying for his Keppra?
Relative to your grandson's weight, Keppra (an anti-seizure medication) generally does not result in weight gain, but <1% of adult patients in clinical trials with Keppra did experience some weight gain. The weight gain is more likely the result of Risperdal, an anti-psychotic medication that often produces dramatic weight gain. That medication was likely prescribed to address the volatile behavior, not to address the seizure disorder.
I also take Keppra but have never had any problems at all. I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets!
My daughter is now experiencing several side effects to keppra. She is extremely drowsy, very short tempered, depressed, and is reporting to me that her memory is 'foggy'. She's on a very low dose of keppra, only 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning. She's been on it a total of 3 weeks now. I've been with her and she seems to be very melancholy and also short fused over the many situations. She weighs 100 pounds and is 20 years old.
