Common Questions and Answers about Keppra mg

keppra

Avatar m tn 04/12 changed him to Dilatan and keppra more seizures. 05/12 put back on keppra only 3,500 mg. 06/12 seizures moved to keppra 4,000 mg a day! He has had only 1 seizures since been on 4,000, but this is a very high dosage. He is going to see an seizures specialist. Hoping he can get this dosage down.
Avatar f tn For example, could we actually leave her at the 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning? 250 mg. at night only? 500 mg at night only? Can she end up with just nightly doses? 2. What are, if any, POSITIVE side effects with keppra (i.e. lamictral can actually HELP with bipolar disorder). 3. Will the fatigue eventually go away as she is on it longer? 4. Of your patients, what percentage complain about their moods of depression, hostility, aggression, infection, etc.?
Avatar f tn My daughter is now experiencing several side effects to keppra. She is extremely drowsy, very short tempered, depressed, and is reporting to me that her memory is 'foggy'. She's on a very low dose of keppra, only 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning. She's been on it a total of 3 weeks now. I've been with her and she seems to be very melancholy and also short fused over the many situations. She weighs 100 pounds and is 20 years old.
Avatar n tn I too have had seizures, however, they leave me exhausted for only a few hours. The doctors put me on seizure Keppra meds 500 mg 2x a day and now I am on 1500 mg 2 x a day....which is working great! Now 75 days seizure free, The 500 mg Keppra didn't work.... I have to take the 1500 2x a day exactly twelve hours apart to avoid seizure activity. Good luck.....
Avatar f tn I don't hear very many good reports about keppra with regard to it's side effects. I do hear many complaints about mood swings, aggression, cognition and memory problems, etc.. However, I have read a few comments saying it can actually HELP with mood swings and bipolar disorder (which she doesn't have). Please comment on this. My daughter has just begun this medication for seizure disorder. She has had seizures several years apart from each other.
Avatar m tn How much Keppra do you take, and how long did it take before you seizures completely stopped? Thank you for reading!
479255 tn?1208116148 ve been on Keppra (1500 mg daily) for about a month now. The irritability was immediately noticeable, but is diminishing with time. I have to think twice before speaking and often decide not to comment immediately to others comments, especially if they are being critical or sarcastic.
Avatar n tn Wow, no seizures since march? I'M JEALOUS! I was on keppra 1500 mg/per day plus anther prescription a few years ago. I've talked to a few people who deal with memory problems no matter what kind of anticonvulsant/seizure medicine they are on. Good luck to you and take care.
564491 tn?1320360393 My 13 year old daughter takes 750 mg of Keppra twice a day for Seizures. She has some irritability but other than that she does fine on the meds. It has been a lifesaver for our family.
327385 tn?1378360731 I've taken Keppra for a while and not had problems with it. I take 250 mg twice a day though.
Avatar m tn The vet did blood work and diagnosed him with idiopathic epilepsy. She put him on 500 mg of keppra ER twice a day. He had a seizure every two weeks for the next month. When we went back to the vet she put him on 64.8 mg twice a day phenobarbital as well as adding another 500 mg keppra to what he was taking. He has been very drowsy and started stumbling and falling into walls. He is also dragging his back feet like he's not picking up his feet. I'm very worried about my baby.
Avatar m tn About a month ago, I had my first seizure. I do remember most of it while it was happening, but I had no control as my arms and legs went out of control. I had two seizures happen, about 5 mins apart. By the time the ambulance drove me to the hospital, 2 miles away, I was unable to respond. I could hear/see them but couldn't move or speak. After 3 days in the hospital, the EEG, EKG and a CATscan came out normal.
Avatar f tn Hello Kylie you have been struggling for a long time with tramadol. Not sure if the keppra would prevent seizures from the tramadol. How do you plan to taper and get off the tramadol? Have you been to counseling?
Avatar n tn I was so thankful then out of nowhere he had 2 grand mals in less than a week. His dr.increased his keppra to the max of 3000 mg. A day. He also gave me the choice of adding depakote we but said the increase in the keppra would take about 2 wks. To reach max . It hasn't been 2 wks yet and I don't know whether to go ahead and start him on the depakote or just wait to see if he has another seizure.
Avatar f tn I read something on rxlist about moodswings and irritibility related to Keppra. It's believed that Keppra makes your brain "dump" Vitamin B6 at times which lowers dopamine or seratonin levels and makes you feel horrible. Does your daughter take vitamins? I'd try some Vitamin B6 if her multivitamin doesn't contain it. I started taking Trader Joe's High Potency vitamins and feel much, much better since starting. Good luck.
338416 tn?1420045702 I've been having these myoclonic (jerks? convulsions?) Meh... Don't know what to call them - but they sure are annoying. When they happen, my legs get really weak. It also seems to be associated with back pain - upper, lower, lumbar. On top of that, I can't feel my knees. They're numb to the touch, but more importantly, when I walk, I can't feel them. I can feel the pressure in my calves and thighs and feet, but not my knees - they're buzzy and floaty.
Avatar f tn She took me down to 300 mg of Dilantin and next month will take me down to 200 mg and so on until I am no longer taking it. I am on 1000 mg of keppra with the dilanitn right now and am super tired but almost feel better. I did not expect to feel better already so not sure what is going on. I guess maybe I feel better because someone actually is trying to help me! I went to my ob dr and my family dr 3 times, who just told me I look fine and maybe I was depressed!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with partical seizures. On 12/12/12 I take keppra er 1500 mg well about a yr ago my whole right side was shaking and couldn't drive home then I been noticing my hands won't stop shaking shakes all the time now but worse when I try to get to sleep.. Is it part of the seizures? Are my seizures getting worse or could it be from the medicine.. It is bothering me so much wondering if any one could help me out..
Avatar m tn All well for two weeks then two more seizures. Both holistic vet and normal vet suggested keppra . She is now on 500 mg three times a day and seems a bit more anxious and not 100% herself. A bit more jumpy and fearful of strangers. I'm told that may have to adjust dosage or add other treatment drugs depending on how this works out. Has anyone had their dog get seizures as a side effect of the dog flu vaccine? And has keppra been successful as a sole treatment option?
Avatar n tn (He was still taking 1 dilantin and weaned off that dilantin just before going on Keppra) I had him wean off the Topamax really slow, much slower than the neurologist wanted at first but neuro. gave us his ok to wean off slow. He also weaned on Keppra at a slow dosage. The Keppra worked ok and then he had a few other seizures, one he actually ended up w/ a compression fracture in his back. Luckily again he was sleeping. We were told this could happen just by the muscles, etc.
Avatar f tn I then weaned off the Depakote and went on to 1500 mg of Keppra and 100 Mg of Seraquel and went off of the Trazadone as Dr. Aurora said Trazadone causes headaches. She also said try EMDR therapy. We did 2 Keppra infusions and it brought my headache twice down from a 10 to a 6. Then I still went back up to a 10 and I was told to go to the ER by the Swedish clinic. I went to the Swedish ER. They gave me a Keppra infusion, Benadryl, and Toradol.
Avatar f tn i take 3000 mg of keppra and 600 mg of tegratol a day,)not a typo) still not fully seizure free and am having alot of dizzy spells.which i was told by my neuro that it was vertigo due to the pollen in the air. can all this med make me gain weight. not a little person , but have gain about 20 pounds in the last month or so. wating or exercise habbits have not changed. could it be the meds.
Avatar f tn We tried various medications, but Keppra seemed to work the best for him. Fast forward to today, he’s still having them but more frequently, every 2 months or so. He is always hospitalized for 48-72 hours as more times than not, has to be put on a ventilator. After each episode, his Dr. increases his dosage and he’s now up to 5,500 mg a day. (That amount seems almost scary!!) We’ve noticed that as his dosages increase, he’s forgetful and just doesn’t have the “umph” that he used to.
Avatar f tn I just want some advice on the safest way for me to quit. Maybe I start Keppra, quit Tramadol and then I will get off Keppra once I am done. The side effects freak me out bad though. Thanks for the help!
1638868 tn?1309542428 I take baclofen 10 mg twice during the day, 40 mg at bedtime, tizanidine 8 mg at bedtime, valium 3 mg at bedtime. I also stretch and get weekly acupuncture treatments. In the past tried dantrolene, had terribly dizziness with it.
