my daughter is 6 and for over a year now she has had different tics including head shaking, shrugging, grunting sniffing and screaming. We have seen the doctor about it before and he said it was nothing to worry about but she is starting to get upset about the latest tic, which is screaming. So we are goin back to the doctors and i am going to demand a referral. But do these tics sound like tourettes? she has no behaviour problems apart from a mild ocd.

I started having myoclonus in my torso four years ago. It was really weird - I would have this tingling that built up in my back, like a sneeze, and then it would go off and my spine would arch or bend. I have myoclonus in my legs already, but the thing in my spine was new. It looked like a seizure, but I didn't lose consciousness.
I had to switch neurologists before I got the right medication for that - Keppra.
I have no health insurance. I was finally got a really basic coverage, but it doesn't cover keppra. i've been taking keppra for a 2 months. I was switched to phenobarbitol for when I run out. since keppra is not on the charity's formulary.
I hope to God that I cant find some source of keppra before I run out. The phenobarb is scary.

I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!)
I have noticed the following: quick to get angry, short tempered, excessive crying, like to focus on negative conversations rather than the positive, I complain a lot, and I take it out on the ones I love most.
Continued with Keppra and Di Tan Tang 2X/day each for another 8 days. Then took her Keppra down to 1/day for 2 weeks. Then she went one day with no Keppra and the next day she had a seizure. This seizure was longer, but her disorientation was shorter. Vet then said to go back to giving her Keppra for 30 days and we will re-evaluate. So for the next 30 days she was taking Keppra 1/day and Di Tan Tang 2/day.
I am 50 years old male and have tics for the past 7 years. My neurologist runs an EMG, but it proved that my muscles are strong and there is no observation of any muscle disorder.He didn't impress upon me that what is the cause of my tics, execpt that he diagnosed that it is mainly due to stress.
I still have the tics occassionally, althought it disappeared temporarily when I go abroad for vacation or even just attending business fair. Is my tics considered a tourette syndrome?
Um i would say that the book Quit It Is good for maybe that kind of situation.
I took Keppra for 3 weeks & it made me very sick. I should have told my Dr. that I was sick immediately. It has been 3 weeks 3 days since I stopped & I'm still nauseated & having chest pains. My Dr. said I should have stopped immediately. Now I am suppose to take Oxcarbazepine. I'm scared.

No matter how small or large the amount. At first I thought this a side effect of the anticonvulsant I take (Keppra) -- the instructions say to avoid alcohol because very serious interactions can occur, although they never specify what those interactions are.
A couple medical professionals I talked to about it said that it's because Keppra increases the level of enzymes present in my liver, thereby speeding up my liver's metabolic rate.
I used cloudiness to help with my tics seems to work well .
Just wanted to share some things that worked for my son. Most tics are transient, but there are some things you can do to help remedy them. First, I would order a Comprehensive Diagnositic Stool Analysis. Check for dysbiotic (bad) bacteria or yeast overgrowth. Also check Secretory IgA levels and inflammatory markers. Generally, when there are tics, Sec IgA is low.
well i only have been on keppra for about 2 years and it they will come and go. It usually happens to me when i am walking around it never the moving downward and pop up feeling never happens when i am sitting. so when it does happen I let who i am with i am going to sit for about 5 to 10 min. My worst one the most recent kep happening for abou an hour, and me an my mom were in th old downtown area that was having the Ice sculpture festival. I let her know i was not feeling right.
Also, I wanted to know if anyone has tried Keppra for seizure activity in dogs and if so, how did that work? Our 6 year old French Mastiff had a seizure on Thursday night - first one ever. He walked across our bedroom floor, stood in front of our open door and acted like he saw someone in the hallway. I sat up and said "Archie, there is no-one there. Go back to bed." Then he looked like he was rubbing his shoulder on the clothes hamper and I thought it looked really weird.
I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets!

and i would highly recommend you consider the potential of your tics being mistaken for Tourettes and the potential of these tics being in someway related to your complex preexisting medical conditions and or medications, and it might be in your best interest to see a Tourettes specialist and be officially diagnosed, which will likely include re evaluation of your medical diagnostic history too.

no not on wellbutrin any longer, i started it long before I started Keppra. I've been on keppra for almost 2 months now. You would have to speak to your doc regarding any other AEDs that would work without effecting your daughters mood. so far havent recieved any benefit from lamictal as far as mood stabilizer goes but its only been 2 wks and I'm slowly increasing my dose. Lots of luck.
side effects of Keppra seem to contradict what our goals for mom are....memory loss, mood changes, mental changes and vision changes among others.
Is Keppra safe to use for this (it is not being used with any other seizure medication....just by itself)?
We want to wean her off, but the doctor is wanting to keep her on it.
