Keppra for headache

Common Questions and Answers about Keppra for headache

keppra

Avatar m tn However, if you feel the headache is clearly related to the Tegretol then I would advise seeing a neurologist specializing in Headache in order to figure out what kind of headache you have. You appear to have been given a diagnosis of chronic tension headache. For daily headaches, some patients sometimes use daily over the counter painkillers (Tylenol, Ibuprofen etc) or opiod medications (like Vicodin or Percocet) which causes something called a medication overuse headache.
Avatar f tn Is any one out there being treated with Keppra for migraine? After a mild stroke in May2014 which affected only my balance, the stroke triggered migraine later in the year, according to my neurologist. I have been taking Keppra to counteract daily attacks which caused limb weakness, extreme lack of balance and very unpleasant sensations of movement in my head, but with no real headache. This has been happening most nights since October and has been very wearing.
Avatar f tn I have also had a constant headache for as long as I can remember. When was your last MRI? The problem with these epilepsy meds is that sometimes the the cure is worse than the cause. Headaches are the number 1 side effect! Which is strange because topamax is also used to treat headaches. I would suggest talking to your doctor about trying keppra xr. Lamictal is a great drug, but it also exacerbates myoclonic jerks, which are a warning a big seizure is coming. Don’t give up hope.
Avatar f tn Then I did the Chiari decompression, the laminectomy and a Occipital Neurectomy on the left and right. For two years I was pretty pain free, then for two more I was starting to get a bad migraine one to two a year, still pretty great. Then 2008. I started getting daily headaches and one to two bad monthly migraines the first status migrainous was in November 3 weeks. Then starting March 11 I got this one and it has yet to let up.
Avatar m tn I have no health insurance. I was finally got a really basic coverage, but it doesn't cover keppra. i've been taking keppra for a 2 months. I was switched to phenobarbitol for when I run out. since keppra is not on the charity's formulary. I hope to God that I cant find some source of keppra before I run out. The phenobarb is scary. So I'm excited about the links here: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/index.php http://www.needymeds.

398501 tn?1334702273 I have been placed on 1000mg of keppra(?), does anyone know the side effect of these that I should expect?
Avatar f tn I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!) I have noticed the following: quick to get angry, short tempered, excessive crying, like to focus on negative conversations rather than the positive, I complain a lot, and I take it out on the ones I love most.
Avatar f tn The only times the seizures would happen was when I woke up suddenly, in the morning. The medication I was given is levitiractam (keppra) 500mg twice a day, which i have been taking for about two years, My questions are: how does keppra help against seizures? What does it mean to suddenly be diagnosed with seizures?(even though the MRI and EGG and other tests show normal) Sometimes when i am walking to school i feel dizzy even though i take my medication. Why is that?
Avatar f tn i take 3000 mg of keppra and 600 mg of tegratol a day,)not a typo) still not fully seizure free and am having alot of dizzy spells.which i was told by my neuro that it was vertigo due to the pollen in the air. can all this med make me gain weight. not a little person , but have gain about 20 pounds in the last month or so. wating or exercise habbits have not changed. could it be the meds.
Avatar n tn Continued with Keppra and Di Tan Tang 2X/day each for another 8 days. Then took her Keppra down to 1/day for 2 weeks. Then she went one day with no Keppra and the next day she had a seizure. This seizure was longer, but her disorientation was shorter. Vet then said to go back to giving her Keppra for 30 days and we will re-evaluate. So for the next 30 days she was taking Keppra 1/day and Di Tan Tang 2/day.
Avatar f tn I have had these problems for 20 some years due to brain damage and keppra has not made it worse or changed anything for me though. I am on a high dose and on other seizure meds. You may want to see about a mood stabilizer for her I know she is young it may or may not work. If it is the med maybe switch meds no one needs to feel that way and I know from experience it's not fun not being yourself and putting others through it.
641243 tn?1235752084 I have had my pup in Keppra for one year. Given he is only 18lbs, the dose was prescribed in liquid form which was impossible to manage, especially for the dose required In The middle of the night. I called everyone I could think of and found an accredited pharmacy (Wellness pharmacy) who was able to purchase the powder from the manufacturer for me. They made capsules with the dose I needed for my pup and life got better! I don't know what I would have done otherwise.
Avatar n tn I have been having seizures on and off. Keppra has done a great job for me. I have not had as many seizures. At times my dosage changes but otherwise then that I am doing well with functioning. I was epileptic when I was younger and know have seizures. If I remember correctly epilepsy is a worse of the 2. It is constant and is harder to deal with. Seizures can be more managable. In the beginning she may need to be more careful on her activity level until she knows how the medications helps her.
Avatar m tn I took Keppra for 3 weeks & it made me very sick. I should have told my Dr. that I was sick immediately. It has been 3 weeks 3 days since I stopped & I'm still nauseated & having chest pains. My Dr. said I should have stopped immediately. Now I am suppose to take Oxcarbazepine. I'm scared. Good luck with keppra. I hope yur son tolerates it better than I did.
Avatar f tn No matter how small or large the amount. At first I thought this a side effect of the anticonvulsant I take (Keppra) -- the instructions say to avoid alcohol because very serious interactions can occur, although they never specify what those interactions are. A couple medical professionals I talked to about it said that it's because Keppra increases the level of enzymes present in my liver, thereby speeding up my liver's metabolic rate.
479255 tn?1208116148 I'm on keppra. So far so good. I used to be quite irritable but once I understand that it was the side effects of keppra, I got hold on myself and tried my beat to be aware of my reactions to others. Reading Dale Carnegie's " How to stop worrying..." helps a lot in my recovery process. I've been on keppra for about two months. Anyone been on keppra for a longer period?
Avatar f tn She is in treatment for almost 2 years now. But not much improvement. Earlier she was on Keppra 500 and now she is in Oxetol150 and for the last 2 months Oxetol 300 twice in a day. She is having headache every day and always sleepy. She got a rash on neck also after some 10 days taking Oxetol (not sure is it due to Oxetol). So may I know Oxetol 300 is a good and recommended medicine to treat partial-seizure and these side affects are common. She is getting fear like symptoms sometimes.
Avatar n tn is it okay to use ibuprofen for a child of 5 years (he has got severe headache and very high body temperature) who is on tegretol and keppra medication?
Avatar m tn Also, I wanted to know if anyone has tried Keppra for seizure activity in dogs and if so, how did that work? Our 6 year old French Mastiff had a seizure on Thursday night - first one ever. He walked across our bedroom floor, stood in front of our open door and acted like he saw someone in the hallway. I sat up and said "Archie, there is no-one there. Go back to bed." Then he looked like he was rubbing his shoulder on the clothes hamper and I thought it looked really weird.
Avatar n tn I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets! Hope this helps and stay focused.
Avatar n tn When I first went on it, I went for over 3 months without so much a daily headache. Before that I was getting some sort of headache every day with migraines 2-3X a week. Some insurances may not pay for this as it is not marketed for this pupose. Some docs may not know about this. My headache specialist put me on this. Hope this info helps.
1596950 tn?1297352500 My son is on keppra (has been on it for only 3months), he also takes B6 for the aggression and it seems to help. However, I have also noticed more instances of learning delays and mood swings where he hits his head on the wall or throws himself down. I know my dr said that he would get better the longer he is on it, but sometimes it seems to get worse. You should ask your dr about vitamin B6.
Avatar f tn For the last 2 years I have also had severe migraines that have sometimes last for weeks. I now also have a Neurologist that specializes in Migraines and headache disorders.Having 2 different Neurologist seems pretty redundant to me especially since neither can seem to find the problem. Keppra is 1 of my meds as well as Lamictal AND a beta blocker.
