I was diagnosed with partical seizures. On 12/12/12 I take keppra er 1500 mg well about a yr ago my whole right side was shaking and couldn't drive home then I been noticing my hands won't stop shaking shakes all the time now but worse when I try to get to sleep.. Is it part of the seizures? Are my seizures getting worse or could it be from the medicine.. It is bothering me so much wondering if any one could help me out..
Then I still went back up to a 10 and I was told to go to the ER by the Swedish clinic. I went to the Swedish ER. They gave me a Keppra infusion, Benadryl, and Toradol. I was told that they do not treat headaches with Narcotics and I was made to feel like a drug seeker. It did not make my headache better. Then I needed to go to the ER again and I went to Harrison Bremerton so I could get a MRI. They did Keppra, Benadryl, Toradol, then Dilaudid.
The vet did blood work and diagnosed him with idiopathic epilepsy. She put him on 500 mg of keppra ER twice a day. He had a seizure every two weeks for the next month. When we went back to the vet she put him on 64.8 mg twice a day phenobarbital as well as adding another 500 mg keppra to what he was taking. He has been very drowsy and started stumbling and falling into walls. He is also dragging his back feet like he's not picking up his feet. I'm very worried about my baby.
So after staying overnight and at the vet the next day he came home and has been on Keppra and phenobarbital. 500mg 2x a day Keppra and 60mg 2x a day pheno. He has the side effects which are lessening but hasn't been as bad as I read could be. He is very responsive and is pretty much himself besides the side effects(weak legs, tired). It's been 6 days and no seizures so far. Will be going to vet in a week for check up and blood test again. I am so on edge..
But then, according to the PA at his office, none of my symptoms which started after starting keppra are side effects of the keppra. I wish I knew how to wean myself off. I hear its dangerous to do it without knowing how. And, to be honest, after having 3 seizures in the last three months (more than I had in the previous 5 years combined.....I am a bit paranoid about being off of any drug. They diagnosed him with Generalized Infant Benign Epilepsy. They put him on Keppra. So far I have only witnessed 2 little jerks, I guess they are Myoclonic seizures. I noticed that he has not been sleeping well at all. He also cries alot over little things, where he never cried much at all.
Is there anyone else that has an Infant on Keppra? Have they experienced the same symtoms? Do they go away?
Is there anyone that had an infant that outgrew these kind of seizures?
I also take Keppra but have never had any problems at all. I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets!
I have no health insurance. I was finally got a really basic coverage, but it doesn't cover keppra. i've been taking keppra for a 2 months. I was switched to phenobarbitol for when I run out. since keppra is not on the charity's formulary.
I hope to God that I cant find some source of keppra before I run out. The phenobarb is scary.

I often have to go to the ER for pain. They give me Benadryl cocktail among other IV meds. They end with Diludid which helps but when is wears off the headache immediately comes back. I've tried massage therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, diet change and exercise. Nothing has ever fully relieved my headache. I just got out of the hospital after 3 weeks. My neurologist is out of ideas. He referred me to Mayo and even they said there was nothing they could do.
As my DD is in Keppra, and has previously been on other seizure meds, the Keppra, by far has had the least amount of side-effects. You could ask if some of her mood changes, memory loss, etc. are from the stroke vs. the Keppra. Please do not wean her off the medication without a Dr's directive... that could cause withdrawal seizures.
My thoughts are with you that your mother gets well soon.
Did you start it after or before keppra? How long were you on Keppra? I wish my daughter could take Lamictal but her rash got the doctor worried, even though it was ringworm. Have you heard of any other anti-seizure meds that might actually work well for moods? I know Lamictal is a very good mood stabilizer. Good luck.
I was also on the 120 ER, extended release. How long were you taking the med? And sick sinus can also cause slow HR in itself. Are you symptomatic - light headed, fainting?
04/12 changed him to Dilatan and keppra more seizures. 05/12 put back on keppra only 3,500 mg. 06/12 seizures moved to keppra 4,000 mg a day! He has had only 1 seizures since been on 4,000, but this is a very high dosage. He is going to see an seizures specialist. Hoping he can get this dosage down.
4 of his seizures occurred in the morning and 2 in the afternoon - 1 while relaxing and one while playing basketball. He has been seizure-free for 3 yrs. on Depakote ER. The Dr. wants to try weaning him this summer, before he starts driving. My son and the rest of the family are extremely apprehensive about this. Dr. says if he has one seizure, he goes back on the med. for life. Only possible side-effect he has is fatigue, but not sure this is due to med.
I read something on rxlist about moodswings and irritibility related to Keppra. It's believed that Keppra makes your brain "dump" Vitamin B6 at times which lowers dopamine or seratonin levels and makes you feel horrible.
Does your daughter take vitamins? I'd try some Vitamin B6 if her multivitamin doesn't contain it. I started taking Trader Joe's High Potency vitamins and feel much, much better since starting.

This seemed to solve the problem until about 3 weeks ago when she fainted again, but this time she had already eaten and when she woke up she had a stabbing pain in her head that caused her to curl up in a ball and sob. We took her to the ER and they did a CT scan and blood sugars which were all normal. We followed up with her family doctor who referred her to a pediatric neurologist. She saw the neurologist who set her up for the EEG.
I am on the off brand of keppra and I was wondering if anyone uses adderal to help with the side effects of this medication. I find myself to be out of it most days and not have a drive to do anything.
Anyone else on Keppra to prevent myoclonic jerks (JME diagnosed)? I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!
its been 8 months since my mothers TBI- she had a seizure yesterday-she has been off keppra for 1 1/2 months-the side effects of keppra are aweful-they ask her questions and wonder why she is out of it and doesn't know her last name-(after they gave her keppra in the hospital) what can she take that is less evasive to her health and recovery??
Her neurologist recommends the medication, Trileptal, but I am very concerned about the rare, but life threatening side effects, TENS, cardiotoxicity, etc. Keppra is alternate possible drug which seems to have a better safety profile. My question is: Are the possible psychological side effects of Keppra (psychosis is worst case senario) totally reversible if the drug is stopped?? Any insight would be appreciated!
