keppra

Avatar n tn Is there also a big percentage for my children to have epilepsy? How can I prevent any birth defect from happening? What medicine will be better or safer to have children with and still treat my epilepsy? I do not know what type of epilepsy I have, the doctor never told me.

1976849 tn?1326079568 There seems to be alot on keppra and I spotted they do it for children in a liquid form.
Avatar m tn How much Keppra do you take, and how long did it take before you seizures completely stopped? Thank you for reading!
Avatar f tn I just want some advice on the safest way for me to quit. Maybe I start Keppra, quit Tramadol and then I will get off Keppra once I am done. The side effects freak me out bad though. Thanks for the help!
Avatar m tn The vet did blood work and diagnosed him with idiopathic epilepsy. She put him on 500 mg of keppra ER twice a day. He had a seizure every two weeks for the next month. When we went back to the vet she put him on 64.8 mg twice a day phenobarbital as well as adding another 500 mg keppra to what he was taking. He has been very drowsy and started stumbling and falling into walls. He is also dragging his back feet like he's not picking up his feet. I'm very worried about my baby.
559697 tn?1243286385 hello, im a 20 year old female and i was diagnosed with epilepsy back im '08(thought'd id put it out there for technical reasons), and im currently taking keppra xr. if its one thing i noticed about this drug (not a doc, could be totally wrong), its that it doesnt stay in the system as long as previous drugs ive been on in the past.
Avatar m tn I am taking tablets for my minor neural problem for the past 4 years, The tablets i am consuming are Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) -300mg and Levetiracetam (keppra) -250mg. Now I am looking for a tablet which should have both of this content in the same. I feel guilty that I am taking more tablets and my health condition is improved now. so I planned to reduce my tablet dosage. so I look over this- i.e.
Avatar m tn About a month ago, I had my first seizure. I do remember most of it while it was happening, but I had no control as my arms and legs went out of control. I had two seizures happen, about 5 mins apart. By the time the ambulance drove me to the hospital, 2 miles away, I was unable to respond. I could hear/see them but couldn't move or speak. After 3 days in the hospital, the EEG, EKG and a CATscan came out normal.
479255 tn?1208116148 I'm on keppra. So far so good. I used to be quite irritable but once I understand that it was the side effects of keppra, I got hold on myself and tried my beat to be aware of my reactions to others. Reading Dale Carnegie's " How to stop worrying..." helps a lot in my recovery process. I've been on keppra for about two months. Anyone been on keppra for a longer period?
Avatar f tn Im staying at a low dose of 100mg for Lamo as dosage has to correspond to weight. It has controlled me well too. I take it during nighttime. And no weight gain like what Depakote does... What about you? Whats ur dosage and how was ur Lamictal controlling ur seizures?
Avatar f tn So, normal resting heart rate for children of 5 starts at 75 and when we sleep, it goes even lower. I think as much as 24 beats lower. But personally, I'd check this out with her doctor to make sure all is well.
Avatar f tn i had a clonic-tonic seizure about 3 weeks ago. i was put on keppra and now am having a lot of confusion and am very tired and extremely moody. is this related to the seizure and or the medication?
Avatar m tn Keppra might not be the one that works best for you. Keppra did not work for me and I was taking around 3,000 mg a day. You might have to have a higher dose, another drug added along with Keppra or try something completely different. So sorry, you are just going to have to talk with your neurologist.
Avatar m tn I have no health insurance. I was finally got a really basic coverage, but it doesn't cover keppra. i've been taking keppra for a 2 months. I was switched to phenobarbitol for when I run out. since keppra is not on the charity's formulary. I hope to God that I cant find some source of keppra before I run out. The phenobarb is scary. So I'm excited about the links here: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/index.php http://www.needymeds.
338416 tn?1420045702 I've been having these myoclonic (jerks? convulsions?) Meh... Don't know what to call them - but they sure are annoying. When they happen, my legs get really weak. It also seems to be associated with back pain - upper, lower, lumbar. On top of that, I can't feel my knees. They're numb to the touch, but more importantly, when I walk, I can't feel them. I can feel the pressure in my calves and thighs and feet, but not my knees - they're buzzy and floaty.
1165078 tn?1338655745 I've been on Keppra for over 3 yrs now, other than gain weight as soon as I was put on the drug, I've had numerous UTI's and kidney infec. as well as Kidney stones, I reduced my dosage by half (1000mg/day down to 500mg/day) over a period of 4 months last yr, still szr free, and blood levels come back with in therapeutic range (something my Neuro can't quite explain yet isn't making me go back up to the 1000mg/day). But I'm having more kidney issues.. am I alone on this?
1994124 tn?1422574099 Is anyone taking AEDs here? If so, whats your dosage and whats the name of ur med?
Avatar m tn went to holistic vet for some homeopathic Detox and anti inflamatory Meds. All well for two weeks then two more seizures. Both holistic vet and normal vet suggested keppra . She is now on 500 mg three times a day and seems a bit more anxious and not 100% herself. A bit more jumpy and fearful of strangers. I'm told that may have to adjust dosage or add other treatment drugs depending on how this works out. Has anyone had their dog get seizures as a side effect of the dog flu vaccine?
Avatar f tn I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!) I have noticed the following: quick to get angry, short tempered, excessive crying, like to focus on negative conversations rather than the positive, I complain a lot, and I take it out on the ones I love most.
Avatar f tn My son is 13 years old and has been on Keppra for the past 3 years. His Dr just increased his dosage to 3000mg a day. That sounds a little high to me, and I was wondering if anyone had more information than I on this. I am concerned with his mental and emotional behavior on this drug. He has regressed in school since the 5th grade, granted he's had two grand mal seizures and some partial complex seizures, but I was wondering if this medication had anything to do with it as well.
Avatar f tn I don't hear very many good reports about keppra with regard to it's side effects. I do hear many complaints about mood swings, aggression, cognition and memory problems, etc.. However, I have read a few comments saying it can actually HELP with mood swings and bipolar disorder (which she doesn't have). Please comment on this. My daughter has just begun this medication for seizure disorder. She has had seizures several years apart from each other.
Avatar f tn We tried various medications, but Keppra seemed to work the best for him. Fast forward to today, he’s still having them but more frequently, every 2 months or so. He is always hospitalized for 48-72 hours as more times than not, has to be put on a ventilator. After each episode, his Dr. increases his dosage and he’s now up to 5,500 mg a day. (That amount seems almost scary!!) We’ve noticed that as his dosages increase, he’s forgetful and just doesn’t have the “umph” that he used to.
Avatar m tn That was until one day when my dog was 4 years old, his wonderful and truly talented vet called to tell me about an epilepsy medication that was newly approved for dogs. That medicine was keppra. It took about 6 months to find the perfect dosage and the best pharmacy for the generic version. But I have to tell you that keppra changed all of our lives. His seizures diminished in severity and frequency until he may have a petit seizure a couple of times a year.
559697 tn?1243286385 It can reduce seizures or even stop them completely in 50% of children. If it means even reducing her doses it would be very worth it. She takes Keppra and Topomax right now and the seizures have reduced by half maybe, so still about 50 absence seizures a day. From what I'm reading and what our neuro dr is telling us, if the meds don't stop the seizures after 2-3 different ones, they probably will not stop the seizures.
Avatar f tn There is however a very large risk of a traumatic seizure event if you try to discontinue Keppra. There is no evidence that Keppra poses any long term health risk, humans have been using it for almost 2 decades. If your 4 legged best friend is on Phenobarbital and/or K.bromide you should discuss with your vet about the risk/benefits of weaning off those and/or transitioning to Keppra as those 2 drugs can cause liver/kidney damage in the long term.
Avatar n tn get him off keppra
Avatar m tn IF YOU HAVE 2 PILLS, AND NEITHER WERE GIVEN A PREFERENCE BY YOUR DOCTOR(KEPPRA+DEPAKOTE) SO MUCH TO THE EFFECT THAT THEY HAD THE SAME DOSAGE, AND YOU WANTED TO GET OFF OF THE 1,000MG DEPAKOTE BECAUSE IT'S THE OLDER ONE THAT MAKES YOUR GUMS RED, AND I JUST WANTED A PLAN TO GET OFF THIS DRUG, THEN WHAT WOULD BE THE RIGHT COURSE OF ACTION TO TAKE?
