keppra

1558393 tn?1299070031 Any way my great family doctor is slowly taking me off the Keppra. I go back in two weeks and he is going to try Topamax. Does anyone take this? If so does it work with your headaches? Do you have any side effects? Also has any of you been approved for disability for your Chiari? I did not want to quit my job if there was no hope.
Avatar n tn After that he went back on Topamax (and got off Keppra) since he figured the seizure he had was from not enough rest and extremely hot temp, stress, etc. when he was on Topamax earlier. Neurologist also up'd the topamax from what he used to take (which was 300 mg to 400 mg per day). So far ok (probably a few months on full dose) except the other night he woke up again and couldn't remember date, and where he was working. I was asleep on the couch so he didn't wake me.
Avatar m tn m on the topamax, had bad acne as well in HS...no acne with the topamax. And a good side effect with the topamax is that I have lost weight. But no acne side effects with the topamax. been on it for a few yrs now.
Avatar m tn Right now I am actually on Keppra and Topamax and they have both kept me seizure free for over 3+ years and I have no side effects. My memory isn't that great but I'm not sure I can blame the drugs. The two of those as a combo, for me, are wonderful!
Avatar f tn I have been treated for tension headaches and migraines since 2009. I was diagnosed with JME when I was 13. I'm currently on 150 topamax and 500 lamictal for seizures. I have tried antimigraines, analgesics, muscle relaxants, nonsteroidal-anti-inflammatory and steroids, ssnri antidepressants and obviously acetaminophen and aspirin for headaches . I have one every single day but the severity of it varies. Within the past few days I have noticed slight shaking and weakness in my hands.
Avatar m tn Hi I am on Topamax, but not for seizures and I have NO hair loss as a result...keep in mind we all respond and react to meds diff....u may want to talk to ur dr if the amount of hair u r losing is alarming to u.....
Avatar m tn I on keppra, dalitin, and topamax to control seizures but now I have thyroid problems do you think is the seizures causing my thyroid problems or is the medicine ?

471949 tn?1236904026 My 15 yr old son had a closed head injury and developed epilepsy. We have been thru several meds; tegretol, depakote, carbitrol, and topamax, and finally keppra. He too has nocturnal seizures arising from his frontal lobe. These meds come with terrible side effects, good luck finding the right one for your son. I know that on topamax my son had issues with memory and concentration, he couldn't even spell "if" when he was 12 ! I knew that something was wrong!
Avatar m tn its been 8 months since my mothers TBI- she had a seizure yesterday-she has been off keppra for 1 1/2 months-the side effects of keppra are aweful-they ask her questions and wonder why she is out of it and doesn't know her last name-(after they gave her keppra in the hospital) what can she take that is less evasive to her health and recovery??
Avatar f tn Rining in ears, dry mouth, depression, and many other not good side effects. Did you notice and change in time (that you took keppra) with the side effects. Did it get better or worse? They want to add lamitcal to the keppra and I am thinking I should just ride the keppra out and see if I can get use to the sides I am experiencing now. Anybody with any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
7486852 tn?1410352184 My new neurologist wants me to try depakote after keppra, dilantin, and dilantin and topamax together have failed. They did not control my seizures and I had horrible side effects. I have been using my medical marijuana which my neurologist never had anything bad to say about it just wants me to try another pill as well. I'm worried about the side effects and whether they will work when these others haven't..
Avatar f tn I appreciate it. I have been on depakote, topamax, lamotrigine, zonegran, gabepentin, lamictal, and keppra. Most of them make me so dopey and forgetful that working is definately a challenge. But...no work...no insurance...no medical care. What a nasty circle. I am allergic to the zonegran, blisters in my mouth etc. The others caused severe leg pain, eye pain, anorexia, hairloss, and I suppose i could go on. But you get the picture.
Avatar f tn Just recently I had a new diagnosis of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy and was put on Folic Acid and Keppra. So now I'm taking three medications. I have only had one grand mal seizure, but every day my mind does this thing where it kind of blanks out when I'm talking and I stare for a couple of seconds, that's when I took an EEG and it determined I had JME. But since I have been on Keppra my mind hasn't spaced out, but I have been in a lot of pain.
Avatar f tn I read something on rxlist about moodswings and irritibility related to Keppra. It's believed that Keppra makes your brain "dump" Vitamin B6 at times which lowers dopamine or seratonin levels and makes you feel horrible. Does your daughter take vitamins? I'd try some Vitamin B6 if her multivitamin doesn't contain it. I started taking Trader Joe's High Potency vitamins and feel much, much better since starting. Good luck.
Avatar n tn He was first on Depakote, with in months he developed a rash. Changed him to Kepra and later added Topamax. Then took him off Kepra and left him on a low dose of topamax. Which was good and he was seizure free. When they tried to wean him at the age of 17 or so to see if he had out grown his seizures, we don't not see seizures but what when seen was muscle twitches (he was trying to have seizures). They put him back on his regular dose.
703031 tn?1398963307 hey all, a little background here. My daughter, 6, was diagnosed with absence seizures over 4 years ago. We've undergone 2 eegs and an MRI. She's been on Keppra since she was 2 with several increases in dose as she's grown. On Halloween, she was standing in the living room and simply fell backwards. Never tried to catch herself but didn't lose balance. I was right there and saw it happen. Thankfully she fell onto the dog bed and did not get hurt, just shaken up.
Avatar f tn There are a couple other good ones out there. I take Topamax and Keppra is supposed to be good too. Anyhow, let me know if you need some more info. I kind of went on a tangent here, but my Rheumy allows me to sample a lot of meds, so I am just kind of wondering if you are on the wrong mix??? If you'd like to send me a PM and we can discuss this in more depth.
874521 tn?1424116797 I am seeing my doc next week to get Off this. I am going to try maybe Cymbalta and Topamax. I have read Good Things about Topamax. My Lower Legs and Hands are both Swollen, and Although it did help with the Nerve Pain. I can't stand feeling like a Blimp. I hope you find Relief, Soon.
Avatar f tn As far as the seizures go, I have not had one since, but I was put on Keppra for a short time and was not functioning well at all, Depakote I was on for about 6 months and the side-effects were too severe for me. I thought I had found a match with Topamax, but I just found out that my recent hospitilization for about a dozen kidney stones that were causing infections and my kidneys to not balance acid levels properly are most likely due to the Topamax.
998260 tn?1277731559 I am ok with topamax, but it has side effects - all of them do. I tried all of them - and for me, topamax had the least, but every one is different and you have to do what you can. Work up to a dose - and take the least amount that helps you the most. I used to take a smaller amount, but had to increase it. It may be best to see a neurologist. There are also surgeries - but that may not be best for you since yours was caused by an injury so it may be difficult to isolate the nerve.
Avatar f tn Now you may have to go to pain management and try different classes of meds, some that can help dull the nerves a bit (gabapentin topamax, keppra) or other things that are narcotic or non narcotic. All have side effects and it takes some experimentation to figure out whic one or combo will work for you. Then there are the new tens type units that fit on the leg? I have not used them but that may help. Pain is not fun and hard to find a solution. No one size fits all. Post back with progress!
Avatar f tn My daughter is now experiencing several side effects to keppra. She is extremely drowsy, very short tempered, depressed, and is reporting to me that her memory is 'foggy'. She's on a very low dose of keppra, only 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning. She's been on it a total of 3 weeks now. I've been with her and she seems to be very melancholy and also short fused over the many situations. She weighs 100 pounds and is 20 years old.
