Keppra and panic attacks

Common Questions and Answers about Keppra and panic attacks

keppra

Avatar f tn I had a seizure years ago. Half a year before it happened, my mouth had started twitching while I was reading something. This didn't occur all the times I was reading, though. So after it happened, my EEG wasn't good, so they put me on keppra 1000mg. I had some weird stuff resembling seizures, but I also had many severe panic attacks and they weren't really able to distinguish them. Keppra made me sleep all day and I also tried to kill myself by overdosing.
Avatar f tn i was put on keppra and now am having a lot of confusion and am very tired and extremely moody. is this related to the seizure and or the medication?
Avatar m tn I am a 26 yr old mother of a 2 yr old boy and a 7 month old girl. I was recently diagnosed with a right temperol lobe brain tumor and also recently had brain surgery to remove it which it has come back benign. :) I have been a sufferer of anxiety and panic attacks since age of 10 so I know exactly what they feel like. I don't go a day without one.
Avatar f tn My daughter is now experiencing several side effects to keppra. She is extremely drowsy, very short tempered, depressed, and is reporting to me that her memory is 'foggy'. She's on a very low dose of keppra, only 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning. She's been on it a total of 3 weeks now. I've been with her and she seems to be very melancholy and also short fused over the many situations. She weighs 100 pounds and is 20 years old.
Avatar m tn I started having seizures when I was 12 yrs. and they put me on dilantin and other meds. they never got under control so good until I went to a new doctor (because I moved) and at that time I was about 38, and the doctor did a MRI and other test. He then said to me the first thing we have to do is get you off of dilantin. He showed me that that pill was eating up half of my brain (it is called cerebellar atrophy). He slowly put me on different levels of Keppra and I haven't been better.
Avatar f tn My brother in law is a 61 y/o white male who has had grand mal seizures since the age of 11. He was put on Dilantin and Phenobarbital and still continues to take those meds, as well as Zeppra. He has taken Lamictal in the past; but, began having seizures and it was eventually d/c'd and replaced w/Keppra. He cannot take Depakote or Tegratol. Both of those cause him to have continuous seizures. He almost died trying to switch to them and was hospitalized for over 6 weeks.
Avatar f tn The medication is gradually calming the surges in my head, leaving it tingly and as if a little swollen, but I am increasingly tired and lethargic and I find I am doing less and less. My balance varies from day to day as do the head sensations. There does not seem to be a gradual improvement though the neurologist of full of confidence which I do not share. Has anyone a similar history and if so what improvement was made and how long did it take?
5293174 tn?1366081633 I just found out I am pregnant yesterday, which would make me only about 5-6 weeks, and I cannot get into see an OB for another 4 weeks. I suffer from anxiety and grand-mal seizures, and have been taking 2 mg of Ativan daily for almost two years. The OB nurse that I spoke with said that the Keppra (seizure medication) was one of the safest during pregnancy, but that I likely need to get off of the Ativan.
Avatar f tn So after staying overnight and at the vet the next day he came home and has been on Keppra and phenobarbital. 500mg 2x a day Keppra and 60mg 2x a day pheno. He has the side effects which are lessening but hasn't been as bad as I read could be. He is very responsive and is pretty much himself besides the side effects(weak legs, tired). It's been 6 days and no seizures so far. Will be going to vet in a week for check up and blood test again. I am so on edge..

338416 tn?1420045702 That nerve impulse goes out in both directions to the neuron, which sends stuff back to the axons and tells them to fire - and WHAM! I have a myoclonic jerk. (Definitely read the article on this one - I've condensed it for comprehension, but it's very interesting.) Ephaptic transmission: Active axons that are near the demyelinated region are enough to trigger the nerve to fire - like the electricity from one nerve is jumping and going to the other.
10011789 tn?1409704061 Anyone have issues with panic attacks? I had them probably 3 or 4 times in my life and never with my first pregnancy. Now with this one (having twins) I've already had 2 and I'm only 12 weeks. Both my parents take anxiety meds. I never have had to and don't want to but it's kind of scary. I'm never like stressed or thinking about anything at the time. It just suddenly hits me and I can't breath and I feel overwhelmed and trapped.

Avatar f tn I had panic attacks about 20 years ago when I worked with all women who smoked some of them chained smoked and I put it down to secondary smoke my thyroid was perfect at the time but also my job was so stressful our boss used to come in every morning and say there were too many women working and as such that was unproductive hours (worked for a construction company where 99% were men) and that one of us would have to go and he would stand there looking at us as if he was trying to decide which o
461368 tn?1206516757 But our brain and mind knows there is a problem and eventually sends up emergency flares -the panic attacks- and fog horn warnings (the anxiety). Typically, the treatment involves some medication to help the patient be more relaxed and functional. But medication is NOT the cure. The "cure," (defined by ME as the end of significant symptoms and no expectation that they will return) comes about through talk therapy with a psychiatrist or similarly qualified mental health professional.
Avatar n tn Could you 'feel' your heartbeat get faster? Also, what is your approximate age?

I was diagnosed with panic attacks... and I was prescriped with Zoloft... 25mg to begin with... and an other pill called "akamon" to help me sleep at night.... he said that its a therapy of 6 months and then I will be just fine but since I was very worried of taking these meds i kept visiting websites and they are all full with people that take them for years and no one that said... 607502 tn?1288247540 I get panic attacks, sometimes with no warning and no obvious trigger - these are at night when I'm about to go to sleep I suddenly can't breathe and my heart is racing. Then I get the ones brought on by outside stressors, ie, situations I can't cope with.
Avatar f tn So I got a question like last year I smoke some pot and it was laced with meth and heroin and I was freaking out I was afraid I was going to die my mom almost took me to the er. so now every time I smoke pot or I try to drink or I try to take any type of pills I start freaking out and having really bad panic attacks to where my heart rate goes up and I'm afraid I'm going to die. do you think if I quit smoking and drinking and doing everything for a couple of years it will die down?
Avatar f tn , so I went to a doctor who told me I was having panic attacks and prescribed me Xanax 0.5 mg 4 times daily, and it is actually working. I was wondering if anyone thought that this was because of the XTC and if anyone else has had this happen. Thanks for listening.
Avatar f tn They can be used to control panic attacks......for what reason were they prescribed to you? If for panic attacks, and they're not controlling them, call your doctor and let him/her know. Take care.
933087 tn?1291174260 Even though the medication helped me greatly in school, the panic attacks became more frequent and more aggressive. Every day after school i would get home and start to feel my fingers tingle, my face go numb, get really dizzy, then have problems breathing. Id have to lay down and just try to fall asleep to get rid of all of it. At the time I thought it was panic attacks that I was having but was not yet diagnosed.
Avatar f tn I suffer with from panic attacks, I wake up very early in the morning feeling dread and what will this day hold for me. I am not an optimistic but a pessimist. If I dare have a thought that today may be good, I shoot myself down by saying "Do not think everything is going to be alright". I am a defeatest. I and my husband are unemployed and cannot find a job. So every day is a financial and peronsal challenge to us both.
Avatar n tn I too have Crohns diease and have panic attacks. I was seeing a GI doctor and told him of the attacks, he said that the stress and trying to cope with this diease was the likely cause. He sent me to a mind and body dr. that he consulted with before I visited and told him my situation. They worked together and I was put on a low does of Klonipin and the attacks completely stopped. Shortly after my Crohn's went into remission.
Avatar m tn I know from experience the anxious state can last for months and panic attacks can happen daily. I went through a horrible period of anxiety and panic. I have since been treated with meds and therapy and I am much better! Hopefully, you feel better soon!
