Common Questions and Answers about Keppra and other medications

keppra

Avatar f tn Please inform his neurologist and therapist regarding this. A different medication can be tried and dose of other medications adjusted. Take care!
Avatar m tn hi, i have epilepsy and am currently on Keppra. im wondering if taking l-lysine 500mg tablets would have any effect on me at all. im just trying to be careful. i doubt its that big of a deal.
Avatar f tn My daughter is now experiencing several side effects to keppra. She is extremely drowsy, very short tempered, depressed, and is reporting to me that her memory is 'foggy'. She's on a very low dose of keppra, only 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning. She's been on it a total of 3 weeks now. I've been with her and she seems to be very melancholy and also short fused over the many situations. She weighs 100 pounds and is 20 years old.
Avatar f tn Also, what is the LOWEST dosage that can be effective of Keppra. She is very sensitive to all medications, and takes half of most over-the-counter medications (one regualr apirin for a headache does the trick, for example).
Avatar m tn are you taking any other tablets for the seizures ? i have always been told keppra works best as a add on to other medications. it sounds like your gp is doing the right thing. the tests should rule out anything else. then if there are on other problems picked up you can try changing your meds 2000mg sounds like a realy high dose to me I'm only taking 500mg of kepra and 250mg of lomtrogine a day. might be worth trying to lower the dose and try another med with it.
Avatar f tn Hi, Lamotrigine or Lamictal as well as Sodium Valproate or Epilim are also effctive against both grand mal and petit mal seizures. However, if you want to switch to other medications, you should discuss this with your doctor. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor since this depends on each individual. Take care and keep us posted.
398501 tn?1334702273 Since Keppra he has been seizure free(16 Months now) In relation to his side effects tiredness seems to be the main one, he also gets mild anxiety which only started since he started taking Keppra. Compared to other medications the side effects are not bad. The most common side effects generally are: Sleepiness. Dizziness and unsteadiness. Weakness. Mild agitation, anxiety, or depression. But none of these are severe..
Avatar f tn Just recently I had a new diagnosis of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy and was put on Folic Acid and Keppra. So now I'm taking three medications. I have only had one grand mal seizure, but every day my mind does this thing where it kind of blanks out when I'm talking and I stare for a couple of seconds, that's when I took an EEG and it determined I had JME. But since I have been on Keppra my mind hasn't spaced out, but I have been in a lot of pain.
Avatar n tn I too have had seizures, however, they leave me exhausted for only a few hours. The doctors put me on seizure Keppra meds 500 mg 2x a day and now I am on 1500 mg 2 x a day....which is working great! Now 75 days seizure free, The 500 mg Keppra didn't work.... I have to take the 1500 2x a day exactly twelve hours apart to avoid seizure activity. Good luck.....
2030686 tn?1351688548 I kind of glossed over some of your other posts and It sounds like you are covering all the bases and asking all the right questions. I mean like you have really done a lot of leg work to get ready for all this. It wasn't until I received all my meds from the specialty pharmacy that I really started to feel like, "OK. I am really going to do this..." Do you have your treatment start date set yet? Good luck when ever that is and be sure to post and let us know how you are doing.
Avatar m tn My name is Joy and in 2000 I had a very large frontaltemporal meningioma removed by surgery I was lucky that I had a lot of medical training was an emt for 12 years and I recognized I was seriously ill and thought it was a brain tumor long story short I had a dr who kept telling me it was only job stress. At the time I was working at a medium security mens prison. Not stressful for me at all its just how you deal with life. Being a take c harge person I fired the quack dr.
452529 tn?1361847855 I feel like a lost a whole part of myself and its pretty depressing. I dont have very bad szs I have partial siezures and am currently on lamictal and keppra. Let me tell you irritable is not the word, I'm horrible on keppra like a different person. I think my doc is going to wean me off and just keep me on lamictal. Although my blood work came back with elevated liver enzymes and low white count so who knows.
Avatar n tn My husband was initially on dilatin for seizure control. This is a dirty drug. Based on our and other brain tumor survivors consensus, we like Keppra the best for seizure control. Another anti-epileptic drug is Tegretol. Ask your doc about adding Keppra or Tegretol and weaning off of Dilatin. Another reason he may have put your husband indefinetly on Dilatin is because it is available via IV.
559697 tn?1243286385 My son was on Keppra, (750mg 2X day) his doctor changed him to KeppraXR same dosag because he was having more seizures. Since he has been on Keppra XR, still seizures and constant jerking movements in hands and very unsteady when standing. Not getting enough sleep @ night. Took him to ER last night, increase dosage to 2000mg per day. His hands jerk from about 11am to about 7pm or 8pm, then he has a seizure. Sleeps about a hour & half. Have anyone had these problems taking Keppra XR?
479255 tn?1208116148 Morning, read your posts, just wondering I see you also have partial complex szs, how do you know your having them do you get an aura? I have been experiencing terrible nausea and dizziness along with numbness in arms and hands have you the same thing? Going to neuro today and hoping he will decrease my keppra and increase lamictal. I'm currently on 100mg of lamictal and 375mg keppra twice daily. I hate it way too irritable. Any suggestions!
6810737 tn?1385004768 There are a number of anti-seizure medications that she can and SHOULD be on with seizures occurring 2 days apart! Leveteracitam (keppra) is a GREAT drug that has to be given three times daily, but is not metabolized by the liver in the instance your vet is worried about your dog's liver function (just speculating as to why the dog is not on meds). Were you offered anti-seizure meds? I just wonder why she is only being treated with fluids...
Avatar m tn 8 mg twice a day phenobarbital as well as adding another 500 mg keppra to what he was taking. He has been very drowsy and started stumbling and falling into walls. He is also dragging his back feet like he's not picking up his feet. I'm very worried about my baby. Has anyone else had this experience? I talked to the vet and am going back to just 500mg of keppra with the phenobarbital twice daily. Any advice would be much appreciated.
338416 tn?1420045702 I've been having these myoclonic (jerks? convulsions?) Meh... Don't know what to call them - but they sure are annoying. When they happen, my legs get really weak. It also seems to be associated with back pain - upper, lower, lumbar. On top of that, I can't feel my knees. They're numb to the touch, but more importantly, when I walk, I can't feel them. I can feel the pressure in my calves and thighs and feet, but not my knees - they're buzzy and floaty.
Avatar f tn We approached the neurosurgeon with a list of questions and he responded with he has other patients to see and we should see a neurologist. We are now in the process of trying to find a neurologist that will take her case since they all seem to specialize in certain conditions (ie. MS, parkinsons etc.) It has now been over 40 days since her discharge from the hospital, and the keppra is not allowing mother to lead a normal life. The pace maker is out. She does not want one at all.
Avatar f tn he needs to get tests..........the only thing I say is please don't put him on diliantin. That gives you cerebellar (shirnks the one side of your brain) put him on Keppra. My doctor put me on Keppra instead of Dilantin....I was already on diamox and tegratol. Now I'm taking keppra, diamox and tegertol and my seizers are under control, they will never be gone for good.
641243 tn?1235752084 Thanks for the great research Ginger. I confess, I have no idea what foreign companies are good or not when it comes to pet meds since I've always obtained mine from our vet. Kate - will you please let us know how Wentworth does with the keppra? My nephew has fairly severe epilepsy and keppra never seemed to help so they're weaning him off it now. What it DID do was send him out into the ozone and turn him into a drooling idiot, and he still had daily multiple seizures.
Avatar n tn I have spinal myoclonus, there are many medications out there that can help. Clonazepam and Keppra are two I have tried, clonazepam helped me but I needed to increase dose. Keppra made me ill but everyone has different side effects. I am seeing neurologist soon to re-assess meds. Does your friend have a neurologist? I suggest that she gets an appointment for tests to find the cause of her myoclonus as there are many different types and causes.
Avatar m tn How much Keppra do you take, and how long did it take before you seizures completely stopped? Thank you for reading!
Avatar n tn They are like a partial complex seizure. I saw a neurologist and was started on Keppra. I was up to 2,500mg a day and they were not stopping. I began to track them carefully and I believe I saw a pattern of only during the 2nd half of my monthly cycle, days 15 - 28 (and usually between 18 and 21) My neurologist decided to put me in the hospital to do a video EEG monitoring and I told him the dates it needed to be. We hit it right and it was determined that my seizures are NES.
