Common Questions and Answers about Keppra and epilim

keppra

502693 tn?1249151446 HI Debz123 Just joined this forum and saw you post. My doc is also switching my tegretol to keppra and keeping the epilim, and am just wondering how you found it in terms of seizure control and side effects? I think I can live with the side effects, as the epilim has left me with short memory loss and am always tired, but I'm really nervous switching meds as have had good seizure control (one in every 6 years for the last twenty). Any info. would be great thanks!
Avatar f tn yes app, keppra works well for both, i have just started this medication as i have been on sodium valporte and tegretol for many years, im slowly coming of the tegretol and going onto keppra, and if everything gos well they will then start to reduce the soduim valporte, i hope this has helped you in some way, if you like i can keep you informed of how things are going.
1156914 tn?1300571629 I was discharged with a prescription for 500mg Keppra morning and night, 300mg Epilim morning and 500mg night and 5mg Urbanol (clobazam, to help with sleep as the twitches were so strong I couldn't fall asleep) I'm now on 750mg Keppra morning and night, 500mg Epilim morning and night and 10mg Urbanol (only if I struggle to sleep) We have tried Rivotril (clonazopam) and even upped it to 2mg but it had no effect whatsoever.
Avatar f tn Rining in ears, dry mouth, depression, and many other not good side effects. Did you notice and change in time (that you took keppra) with the side effects. Did it get better or worse? They want to add lamitcal to the keppra and I am thinking I should just ride the keppra out and see if I can get use to the sides I am experiencing now. Anybody with any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn I was on Epilim Chrono for Epilepsy, I came off it and changed to Keppra as I found out Epilim Chrono is also for Anorexics! Explains why I never felt full until my stomach. But I would say try to encourage him to drink more fluids when hungry.
Avatar f tn Before I even planed my first baby he made sure I was aware of best drug to be on. I was on epilim and switched to keppra which has no ill effect on me or baby. Thank god during pregnancy I have been great but they then to monitor me more first week after birth as risk of seizures can go up. I am for 29 week scan today with joint epilespy clinic for pregnant woman to see consultant today for check up. Hopefully all good.
Avatar f tn Have you discussed changing the epilim to a different medication. I know that epilim/depakote/sodium valproate is an absolute no no in pregnancy but there are so many other medications out there it would be worth discussing this with your psych.
Avatar f tn My daughter is now experiencing several side effects to keppra. She is extremely drowsy, very short tempered, depressed, and is reporting to me that her memory is 'foggy'. She's on a very low dose of keppra, only 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning. She's been on it a total of 3 weeks now. I've been with her and she seems to be very melancholy and also short fused over the many situations. She weighs 100 pounds and is 20 years old.
Avatar f tn I read something on rxlist about moodswings and irritibility related to Keppra. It's believed that Keppra makes your brain "dump" Vitamin B6 at times which lowers dopamine or seratonin levels and makes you feel horrible. Does your daughter take vitamins? I'd try some Vitamin B6 if her multivitamin doesn't contain it. I started taking Trader Joe's High Potency vitamins and feel much, much better since starting. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I was also on epilim and was taken off because of the weight gain, im now on lamotrigine, at the begining I found this to really lift my mood but then it wasnt enough so I was added some other medication, cant remember the name, I was ok for months but now for some reason I have started to cycle again.
Avatar m tn How much Keppra do you take, and how long did it take before you seizures completely stopped? Thank you for reading!
Avatar f tn Seroquel and epilim are very good medications for mania, anger, mood swings and psychosis. There are indeed others as lindahand says, though - lots of others. Seroquel and epilim are usually the ones they try you with first (or lithium instead of epilim). Seroquel is an anti-psychotic (also prescribed for anger and mood problems) and epilim is an anti-convulsant (also prescribed as a mood stabiliser). But talking therapy is as important as drugs if not more so, in such situations as these.
Avatar n tn They are like a partial complex seizure. I saw a neurologist and was started on Keppra. I was up to 2,500mg a day and they were not stopping. I began to track them carefully and I believe I saw a pattern of only during the 2nd half of my monthly cycle, days 15 - 28 (and usually between 18 and 21) My neurologist decided to put me in the hospital to do a video EEG monitoring and I told him the dates it needed to be. We hit it right and it was determined that my seizures are NES.
479255 tn?1208116148 Morning, read your posts, just wondering I see you also have partial complex szs, how do you know your having them do you get an aura? I have been experiencing terrible nausea and dizziness along with numbness in arms and hands have you the same thing? Going to neuro today and hoping he will decrease my keppra and increase lamictal. I'm currently on 100mg of lamictal and 375mg keppra twice daily. I hate it way too irritable. Any suggestions!
Avatar f tn Anyone else on Keppra to prevent myoclonic jerks (JME diagnosed)? I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!
Avatar n tn After a very frightening last 2 weeks of my boyfriend on Keppra my doctor did say to ween him off which I've done. Today is the first day off it and he still seems to have the dillusional aggressive side effects that I am hopeful after reading your post.....I pray to god that the old person before this drug comes back. How was those last few weeks for your son?
3242988 tn?1359306516 I have been on allot of medication to try and control them. Keppra was one of them, if I remember correctly I maxed out on the dosage and had to be put on another one. I also hate taking pills but that is just another thing I had to get use to. Oxcarbazepine does not sound like one of the medications I have been on over the years, so I can not tell you about that one. I do not recommend smoking marijuana along with your seizure medication. It could effect how effective the drugs work.
599945 tn?1240382354 Itchy/tickly skin, hot feet, incredible tiredness during the day, epilim didnt do what it was supposed to do for me and thats why the lithium was added, I think they will gradually take me off the epilim over the next few months.
Avatar f tn Was on lamicatal er when shaking started on right side of body but had a allergic reaction to it..
Avatar f tn I to have been taking Keppra and told can't drive for six months, yesterday my Oncologist informed me that only a Neurologist can authorize driving and I will need to probably get off keppra to get permission to drive. Was also informed that you can not just stop this drug.
1714955 tn?1308757100 Ask your doctor for a weight nutral medication, I came off epilim for that reason now Im on two weight nutral meds, unfortunatley they are not working that great but neither did the epilim. I have been off it for about a month and have notice a slight reduction in weight so far.
1596950 tn?1297352500 She had a prolonged partial seizure when she was 6 but has been seizure free since being on the keppra. Good Luck and may the Lord watch over you and your family.
Avatar f tn So after staying overnight and at the vet the next day he came home and has been on Keppra and phenobarbital. 500mg 2x a day Keppra and 60mg 2x a day pheno. He has the side effects which are lessening but hasn't been as bad as I read could be. He is very responsive and is pretty much himself besides the side effects(weak legs, tired). It's been 6 days and no seizures so far. Will be going to vet in a week for check up and blood test again. I am so on edge..
Avatar m tn I have no health insurance. I was finally got a really basic coverage, but it doesn't cover keppra. i've been taking keppra for a 2 months. I was switched to phenobarbitol for when I run out. since keppra is not on the charity's formulary. I hope to God that I cant find some source of keppra before I run out. The phenobarb is scary. So I'm excited about the links here: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/index.php http://www.needymeds.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hi I am on Epilim and have been for 1month now, so far I have been lucky and I have had little side effects apart from sleepiness which was quite major in the begining but is getting better each day.
