s twice a day (Prevacid Solutabs, Nexium, Protonix, Prevacid, Zegrid, Kapidex, Aciphex, etc....) and supplemented with Gaviscon or Zantac. I was also on Advair 500/50 and Singulair. My symptoms were a harsh chronic cough and difficulty breathing/severe asthma. Testing (Barium Swallows, Esophagram, Manometries, pH tests) showed my refluxing was extremely severe (getting worse) and that my LES wasn't functioning properly.
I was recently diagnosed with acid reflux, after an endoscopy that showed some gastritis and inflammation in my esophagus and a clean ultrasound. I've tried different medicines and the only one I've found so far that lets me live relatively pain-free is Kapidex. I took a free trial of it for 10 days, during which time I helped, but then went back off of it for a week (trying a different, cheaper medicine) before going back on it.
I've had this same feeling after drinking red wine. I started having reflux problems 10 months ago. The ppi's make me feel bad on top of everything else. This past month I've had 2 episodes of this chest and back discomfort. And reassured by my GI doc that it was due to reflux. I'm on Dexilant(Kapidex) 60mg. Nothing seems to work as good as Prilosec 40mg capsules. I was able to drink and eat anything I wanted! But my insurance won't cover it again.....
Also, I recently heard about Kapidex. Is this significantly better than the others out there (including the Nexium I am on) or should I stick with the Nexium?
t the kind that needed an antibiotic to clear up. The doctor gave me Kapidex, now called Dexilant and I took it for about 1 year. Then I thought I didn't need it anymore and quit. The ENT said he thought it was reflux because he saw no abnormalities. He did ask if I had my tonsils taken out and I told him I had not. He said with age they shrink and mine were about gone. I'm just afraid he missed something and I'm not doing enough to figure out what is wrong.
i have been diagnosed with gerd and a hiata hernia i am a black female 5ft2 and 233 pounds i have been on five different prescriptions currently i am on 60 mg of kapidex i have been losing weight and losing my appetite sometimes the kapidex gives me relief sometimes it doesn't what can i do for relief when it doesn't work? and how far can acid reflux travel.
ve never tried Domperidone, but the only meds that helped me were Nexium or Kapidex taken twice daily. I tried prevacid and it was very brief because it just didn't work for me :(
Also, I use to take one Kapidex/Nexium PLUS some Amitriplyn, but I knocked the amitriplyn out of my regimen. Either way, it offered more good days then bad.
The only medication she started around that time was Dexilant 60mg. There is no history of heart problems but there are digestive issues. In april she had some bloodwork done and then again this month. We are thinking that she has symptoms of anemia but the doctors are saying its nothing too serious. Could the symptoms be caused by Dexilant? If so, how long until the Dexilant is out of her system (I mean if she would go off of it.) Also, is this bloodwork indicative of Iron deficiency anemia?
Went to my Dr and she said it was Gastritis and put me on Kapidex 2x a day for 3 days and then once a day thereafter. The next day my lower back has starting hurting. I went in on Tuesday for pain in the back and she prescribed naxoprene and a muscle relaxer. The pain went away once from the pain medicine and now does nothing. I've been having bouts of diarrhea and then constipation also. Today my back pain is excrutiating and the past two days my stools have been dark brown/black.
Someone in my family is experiencing a lot of pain and burping at the same time. The pain is on the side of her neck and is constantly burping don't know why but she's been to the ER to the regular doctor and her appointment with the GI Doctor is a month away. The doctor has prescribed Dexilant but it hasn't worked and has been 3 days. Does anyone have any idea of what this could be and why it's causing her so much pain?
By mid August 2021 everything went back to normal, I ate what i wanted and still took dexilant until my insurance said dexilant was going to cost more so I started taking omeprazole 20 milligrams in late 2021. Still everything was going great then in March 2022 I went to my doctor and started only taking it three times then two times a week. Eventually I stopped taking it all together in Jan. 2023 I had no problems at all.
Thanks for the quick and detailed response. I was treated with PPI's twice per day for about 5 years before switching to the dual delay release Dexilant/Kapidex after my surgery. I tried all of the PPI's on the market as my symptoms got worse. I had the Nissen Fundoplication 2 years ago that improved my symptoms immediately. I've had no other acid symptoms since. I'll find out in a couple weeks if the EGD shows anything.
It took years, but in 2012 I had an upper endoscopy and was diagnosed with bile reflux, due to the large pool of bile that was seen in my stomach. Since then, I have been on Dexilant, 60mg. Last week, I had what I call a flare up of my reflux. It always starts as extreme upper abdomen pain accompanied by constant belching. These flare ups typically last a day or so.
Could the symptoms be caused by Dexilant? If so, how long until the Dexilant is out of her system (I mean if she would go off of it.) Also, is this bloodwork indicative of Iron deficiency anemia? B12? or what is anyone's thoughts based on the bloodwork.
I will be writing two numbers the first one is the blood work from April, the second is the recent bloodwork.

I have been on a PPI (Dexilant) ever since then, and periodically have attempted to wean myself off of this drug since I understand that long term use is not recommended. I have tried apple cider vinegar, even several times a day, but every time I have been forced to go back to the Dexilant. In fact my acid reflux has been so severe that even after going back on the medication my esophagus feels raw for a few days even though I am not experiencing acid reflux.
I was put on 60 mg. of dexilant(the newest PPi drug) which really did stop the gnawing pain and acid. However after 60 days I am terribly nauseated, dizzy, lightheaded, have a headache and anxiety and a pulsing in my right ear.And taste the dexilant. I have tried to go off dexliant and switch to zantac but within 2 days the acid taste starts to come back. Am I getting acid rebound - how do I get off dexilant?

I am taking a very low dose of nefazodone because I'm prone to having serious side effects from most meds, especially anti-depressants. When I increased to 75 mg and then 100 mg, I started to have horrible acid reflux. I'm currently taking Dexilant in combination with Carafate and, as needed Zantac, to try to control the reflux. I'm still experiencing serious discomfort until several hours after taking nefazodone.
They found that i have a hiatial hernia as well as a weak les sphincter. Anyways my GI doctor put me on kapidex after followup. I prefer kapidex to protonix and i was doing pretty good until this morning when i had a random bout of nausea. Luckily i had some phenegren left so i took it and got better. I have already bought the special pillow that raises my head while sleeping and i think has really helped me.
I switched to taking tums multiple times a day, which worked for a couple months and then stopped. I tried Kapidex which also worked perfectly for about 3 months and then completely stopped working. Zantac worked for about a month and is now subsiding. My doctor has added carafate, but the pains are still not gone. They usually come when I haven't eaten for a while and let myself get hungry at all. I try to eat every 2-3 hours but am not always able to.
I am afraid to eat other things. What an I do. I am taking Kapidex and take giner tea. I also take anxiety meds just because of this feelings in my throat.
I have lost 52 lbs, had an abdominal ultrasound(revealed tiny gallstones but they didnt seem worried about it), upper endoscopy (showed mild gastritis and a spasm of my valve), barium swallow study was next (totally normal, they didnt see the spasm), HIDA scan (showed deficient emptying of gallbladder, but they said it wasnt bad -although I didnt get a percentage), CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis which was normal and bloodwork which was pretty normal as well.
