Avatar f tn But if she has been Type 2 for many years, been tried on different meds and still has high blood sugars there is a possibility she is no longer producing enough of her own insulin and may have to be put on insulin. A test called a c-peptide could determine how much insulin she is still making, but her doctor would know her history as I described above and have a good idea if insulin is now called for.
Avatar f tn I have been on Metformin, Januvia and Glimeperide for a few years. They are not controlling my diabetes. She wanted me to try Victoza and give up the Januvia. I got over fear of giving myself the shot, but on the 3rd day I began to get sick. On the 4th and 5th days I couldn't even go to work. Changed shot to before bed instead of morning and it made no difference. After a little over a week I stopped it. Lost 5 lbs cause I couldn't eat anything.
Avatar f tn 81 yr. old Mom taking Glip/metform 5-500 1 1/2 pills breakfast/lunch/dinner and Januvia 5omg breakfast and dinner. Blood sugar still not under control. Can these be increased or is insulin next step?
1273125 tn?1365077526 to use insulin you have to count carbs and inject for the carbs eatin take to much insulin and you go low, not enough insulin you go high. insulin done wrong can do more damage I think insulin done rite more work than eating rite.
Avatar n tn i m asking as haw the use of sitaglipin help in conlrolling the sugar levels.

Avatar n tn I'm a type 2 diabetic, but am not, and never have been, overweight. It runs in my family, on both sides. My last A1C was 11. I take Invokana and Januvia. Since last month, I've changed my diet the best way I know how. I only have 1 starch a day, and that's a whole wheat starch, 1 serving of fruit, and the rest is veggies, nuts, and seeds. BUT, my readings are still high at times. What else can I do? I go back in another week for another A1C and I really want it to be better.
Avatar n tn I am Type ll diabetic taking metformin & Januvia. My levels are climbing and the Dr. is considering insulin for me. I do not want to be insulin dependent. Trying to lower with diet changes but have other health issues that restrict what I can eat. I have high cholesterol (can't take any statin drugs to lower), diverticulosis, irritable bowel, fibromyalgia and now a mouth full of braces so am unable to eat many things because my teeth do not hit together to chew.
1236243 tn?1277680851 my doctor just took me off Januvia and put me on a Victoza Pen, is this a smart move? and will this work better?
Avatar m tn Hello, I am very concerned about my blood glucose levels. I am diabetic and I haven't been keeping track of my blood glucose levels for years. For the last month or so, I had been feeling totally exhausted, falling asleep at the computer, several times I actually fell asleep with food in my mouth that I hadn't chewed. I was weak and out of breath and could barely walk without getting winded.
Avatar f tn We have decrmy Lantus to 10eased units in the even. and 1/2 Amaryl in the a.m. and p.m. I also take Januvia 100mg, and 2000 mg Metformin a day. My A1c has been 6.6 for a few years now, but have moved and have a new Dr. who wanted me to try the Victoza. My BS are running 154 (No lower) to as high as 272. OCCASIONALLY I might have a reading as high as 272 (My B'day celebration had to many sweets) :(. but not this high On a regular basis.
Avatar m tn Everyone is different so what works for me may not for you. I take glyburide, januvia and two insulins. My sugar is in much better control now and symptons(sweating, shakes tired)occure much lesss often.
Avatar n tn t want you on insulin. Once your body no longer produces sufficient insulin, you can take all the oral meds you want and your numbers will be high. I suggest you get a c-peptide test to see how much insulin you are actually producing. Yes, I agree that it is better to be under 140 as much of the time as possible. Studies show that protracted time spent above 140 is when complications start to form. Most doctors imho are much too lax in their expectations of control.
Avatar m tn Sorry to be getting back to you after all these months. I am maintaining a stage 3 and was on a 3 month regiment of vitamin d and we also eliminated metformin. I take Amaryl now, instead.. My blood glucose was out of control but my PCP put me on Victoza. That seems to be helping with the exception of BS levels being very low in the morning. My PCP has suggested she might take me off the Amaryl and just have me take more insulin along with the Victoza and Januvia.
Avatar m tn I do not eat before exercise at five thirty every day. I am taking metformin glimperide januvia and atenolol for my high blood pressure. Before i exercise blood sugars are 156. After exercise they go to 226. Why? I take my meds about fifteen minutes before my exercise routine. Blood sugars continusously drop as the day goes on. before dinner time they can be 100. after eating they drop to 60 sometimes.
Avatar m tn Immediately she prescribed Metformin and Januvia. Her body did not react well on Metformin and we switched to Glupizide 5mg once a day in the morning. She continues to have out of control sugar. Like for example yesterday in the morning it was 320, and after a pill it went down to 260. A week ago when her sugar was out of control, I took her to ER where she was put on IV and was given some insulin. Her condition improved immediately, but deteriorated again 5 hours later.
Avatar f tn While in the hospital for heart related problems my doctors found that I had the D word. I refuse to accept this as I have worked so hard to avoid having the D word. I was sent home with a monitor which I refuse to use (no fear of needles just using the monitor means acceptance). I am on Januvia 50 mg and Amaryl 1mg. My doctor told me to eat 3 meals a day plus a snack at bed time. I have lived by the Atkins diet and don't eat carbs and don't care for sweets.
488724 tn?1253551235 When I was your age, I had heartburn and indigestion during the night time (and because of the spinal injury, I had to use no pillow) I was able to get things in control having the last meal 2 hours prior to bed time. I am also avoiding fatty meals, which may cause extra acid secretion. I guess, in my case, the heartburn was post-traumatic stress related, because I mostly have had it before the midterm tests. Also what is your opinion about Januvia drug (my mom just started it)?
996946 tn?1503249112 However their use is suggested only after prior consultation and written prescription by a medical practioner; after taking the side effect profile into consideration on individual basis. You could read more about the medications online and discuss this with your treating endocrinologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
1546050 tn?1293688410 She then decided that I must be insulin resistant and put me on Glucophage 1 in the evening without even doing any tests or telling me anything about an eating plan etc. I am now following a low GI eating plan I got on the internet. My question is - should I be on Glucophage if I was not properly tested for insulin resistance and if my sugar test came out within normal range?
194838 tn?1303428544 Hi, I recently posted about severe side effects I was experiencing with the drug Januvia , I had severe stomach pains and sore throat. My doctor has now prescribed Galvus and said they are from the same family as Januvia. Has anybody tried this drug? if so did you experience any side effects ,especially stomach pains? . It may sound stupid but I am a little scared to take Galvus after what happened before.
231441 tn?1333892766 5 (both of which are autoimmune) should use insulin either alone or in combination with appropriate insulin sensitisers (usually metformin) if there is insulin resistance. So what should blood sugar goals be? These are very individual, but should be formulated with consideration that truly normal blood sugars in people who are non-diabetic would consist of fasting blood sugars typically in the low 80s, and post eating blood sugars that rarely if ever exceed 100 (and then not by much).
Avatar n tn Hello, Phentermine can alter your blood sugar levels, if you are going to try using it please use it with caution and monitor your blood sugar levels more frequently... if you notice changes and if your blood sugars are becoming too low then stop taking phentermine, and seek further advice about what you could use instead of phentermine. Remember that diabetes should be your priority.
