1925135 tn?1323307656 Diabetes Solutions by DR. Richard Bernstein or at least log on Amazon.com to read the reviews on his book. This book is arguably the most important book on diabetes 2. Good luck.
541196 tn?1293552936 I think I remember reading in the side effects, warnings and uses pamphlet that there were some tests, proceedures and surgeries which you shouldn't have while on the medication. How long should I be off the medication before and after the MRI? Are there any other things I should consider before the test? Also, when Dr's ask about vision problems, changes and such what type of things do they mean?
Avatar n tn My husband was recently diagnosed with type II diabetes. His doctor has prescibed janumet. In reading about the drug I've found info stating that "one should not consume excessive alcohol" and also "one should avoid alcohol". My husband drinks at least one glass of wine/beer a day with more on weekends. I'm confused as to what excesive means or if he is suppose to avoid alcohol totally. Any information would be appreciated.
1441125 tn?1284071885 Personally speaking Metformin and cinnamon have no side effects when taken simultaneously. Does cinnamon help lower my glucose levels? Yes, in some ways it does. Will it work for you? Yes/no. Cinnamon works for some people and not for others...won't hurt to try but bear in mind you may not see any changes for 3-4 months down the road. In the U.S., two types of cinnamon are sold in supermarkets and supplement stores, Cinnamomum Zeylanicum and Cinnamomum Cassia.
Avatar m tn I've had diabetes for since I was 24, and have had it quite controlled for about 12 years, until the beginning of this year. I noticed twitching in my hand, like the twitch your eye gets sometimes when you're tired. Irritating, but it goes away. After two solid weeks of it twitching non stop I went to the drs. He tested my HBA1c and it had jumped from around 6 to 9.8.
Avatar n tn Do you have Type 1 DM, and how well is your diabetes controlled? If your diabetes is not well controlled this could be the cause of your not being able to gain weight. If you have Type 1 diabetes, you may also be at risk for other diseases that can contribute to poor weight gain, like Celiac disease. The other question is, why do you want to gain weight? You can some nutrient dense foods like nuts which have good fats and proteins without too high a carb load as part of your diet.
Avatar n tn Eating some food usually helps with these side effects. You can ask your doctor to be certain if this could help your side effects. Plus you could discuss changing meds. BTW There is a combination pill Janumet that c ombines Metformin and Januvia. This may be helpful to you as well.

Avatar m tn I need help. Long story short, I was not tested for type one or two diabetes before I was started on insulin. I went from Janumet 50/500 to adding Lantus 2 weeks later. When I hit 22 units, my fasting number went to 81 from a starting number of 324. My concern is that even with the fasting level in normal range, my two hour BG level still spikes to the high 200's. I have followed the recommended diet and watch my carb count very carefully.
Avatar m tn ve not really heard of it rejecting it per se, but I know that with type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance it basically doesn't know how to uptake it properly... so insense I guess that's what it does. There are medications that can help your body absorb it better after meals...
Avatar n tn says metformin at both 500 x 2 and 1000 x 2 are both equally ineffeciant for treating diabetes. She highly recommends Janumet 5/500. Gus added this to his and has seen a decline in sugars. I did as well when I was switched.
Avatar n tn I've been dealing with gerd issues for the last half year. Colonoscopy and endoscopy were negative. I did do a series of rolling barium stomach xray which did show my stomach was on a roller coaster ride. I've been on most of the meds for gerd, from Zantac to Nexium to Lansoprazole to Pantoprazole. In December I started to develope numbness in my left foot and right hand. (Last night I noticed my left anke was swollen.
Avatar f tn I thought I had to vomit, but when I intentionally tried to vomit, nothing happened. I have type 2 diabetes and currently take Janumet twice a day. Could this have been low blood sugar, or high blood sugar?
Avatar n tn Low carb diet is absolutely the best way to manage diabetes. American Diabetes Association is now also recognizing this. By low carb we mean about 20 - 30 g of carbs per day. Protein should be adequate (can be up to 1.5g/ kg body weight), and healthy unprocessed fats (avoid vegetable oils) for energy balance. HEalthy fats include the fats that come with meats and full fat dairy, nuts, avocado etc.
541196 tn?1293552936 I think you will find out more if you ask the pharmacist. They actually know more about medicines and side effects than doctors do. I really don't think you can take it while pregnant or breast feeding though. Best of luck to you and hope you get blessed with a bundle of joy someday.
541196 tn?1293552936 Hi Do you or anybody in your family related to you by blood have a history of diabetes? If yes, please get the blood sugar test done. Do not worry about your CBC. It is expected with your history. Non-Healing wound or infection can be due to diabetes or due to thyroid problems too. Take care and do keep me posted.
Avatar m tn My diabetese medicine was changed from Pioglar + Metformin 500 twice a day to Janumet 50+1000 twice a day in around March 2011. I have since lost about 15 KG and it is still going down @ 1 kg per month. I was happy to reach my ideal weight. However, I do not know how to stop further loss. I am Diabetic, so can not discontinue Metformin. Any suggestion ?
466024 tn?1208320081 As far as the Effexor side effects go, the first week or two it really mellows you out and yes, you do sleep a little more, at least it affected me that way. I am now on 75 milgrams and after a couple of weeks you settle into your old routine. Effexor has worked great for me, especially with the racing thoughts and anxiety.
Avatar m tn I've never taken it, but these are side effects you can get from almost any antidepressant. I'd probably listen to your endocrinologist. But you have to taper off this med slowly, not just quit, if you decide to do that. One of the problems a lot of people have is taking drugs for their side effects. Trazadone isn't a sleep remedy, but it had the unwanted side effect of making people very sedated.
Avatar n tn I have Diabetes the doctor has given me NEOGAB 100 mg at bed time .. what are the side effects ?
