Avatar m tn t changed my lifestyle in any way) and when I started testing again, they were 15-20 when they had always been 4-8. I went on metformin 1g, no change after three months. went up to two grams and was so nauseus for weeks, changed to janumet 1g. My sugars are still up around 15 every day, and my hand still hasnt stopped twitching. I get it all over my body randomly, but always in my hand. It doesn't hurt but is irritating and my hand is sore from overworking.
Avatar m tn I had TIA stroke in December 2010. My diabetese medicine was changed from Pioglar + Metformin 500 twice a day to Janumet 50+1000 twice a day in around March 2011. I have since lost about 15 KG and it is still going down @ 1 kg per month. I was happy to reach my ideal weight. However, I do not know how to stop further loss. I am Diabetic, so can not discontinue Metformin. Any suggestion ?
541196 tn?1293552936 My endocrinolgist ordered a MRI with Contrast on my brain for the possiblity of a prolactin secreeting pituitary tumor or something similar. I am type II diabetic and take Janumet. I think I remember reading in the side effects, warnings and uses pamphlet that there were some tests, proceedures and surgeries which you shouldn't have while on the medication. How long should I be off the medication before and after the MRI? Are there any other things I should consider before the test?
1441125 tn?1284071885 Metformin only helps your body process insulin. Ask your doctor about switching to Janumet - combo with Metformin. Regarding Cinnamon - it is effective in regulating sugar for Mellilitus II diabetics. You can take it in conjunction with any medicine. IMHO - fresh or using the sticks in a tea are the most effective!
194838 tn?1303428544 Hi, I am taking Glucophage (slow release Metformin) and have just been prescribed Januvia to take also. I have had stomach pains and upset stomach since being on them, the plus side is that I have lost weight so am very happy about that but wondered if anyone else has experienced the stomach pain and if so how long did it take for it to subside. If anyone has any advice etc I would be so grateful.
Avatar f tn I have type 2 diabetes and I take 2000mg of metformin...but it hurts my stomach something terrible...i stay in the bathroom I stopped taking it but I know I have to start back because I don't want to have to take insulin because it is/was helping me..what can I do for the stomach pain and toilet runs.
Avatar n tn My husband was recently diagnosed with type II diabetes. His doctor has prescibed janumet. In reading about the drug I've found info stating that "one should not consume excessive alcohol" and also "one should avoid alcohol". My husband drinks at least one glass of wine/beer a day with more on weekends. I'm confused as to what excesive means or if he is suppose to avoid alcohol totally. Any information would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn i used janumet for my sugar it make me gain weight but it lower my sugar why isnt suppose to make u loose weight
541196 tn?1293552936 I had gestational diabetes 7 years ago and have suspected that my insulin never returned to normal. I was taking Metformin 500 2x daily which was then changed to Janumet 500/50 2x daily. I have done very well with diet and exercise and for some very strange reason, upon beginning treatment for the pituitary tumor and thyroid medicine, my blood sugars have been in range perfectly and when taking Janumet I actually experience severe low sugars, so I have stopped taking it.
Avatar f tn My doctor suggests now to up the Clomid dose to 150mg and to take Metformin as well. I thought that Metformin was indicated for patients with insulin resistance (which is not my case), is this true or are there potential benefits of taking Clomid + Metformin even not being insulin resistant? Also, at which point will a person be considered Clomid resistant?
808221 tn?1242744188 I have a question for all of you. I'm on metformin and Janumet meds and I have been having a great deal of gastric distress. Uncontrollable flatulence and gastric reflex especially at night. Is anybody out there taking the same meds having the same problem. I think I need to call my doc. and maybe change meds. By the way my glucose levels have really come down. Last night it was 9, this morning 107.
568322 tn?1370165440 At EASL 2008, Romero-Gomez and colleagues assessed the impact of adding metformin to standard HCV therapy with peginterferon alfa-2a 180 µg/week plus weight-based ribavirin 1000-1200 mg/day on SVR rates in 125 genotype 1 HCV–infected patients with insulin resistance (Capsule Summary). A total of 61 participants received metformin and 64 patients received standard HCV therapy alone.
1408094 tn?1281909283 No your not too late, However PCOS patients should not take Clomid, due to the fact that it can acctually cause cysts. However Metformin is great for PCOS patients because it will help us use insulin in our bodies instead of causing us to form more cysts. I would recommend going to a reproductive endocrynologist (RE) and they can help you with options. Good luck and keep the faith.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your response. I have type 2. My last HA1c was 8.1 and I am now using Janumet. I do suppose a dietitian is the right way to go. Thanks again.
Avatar n tn Absolutely, from, a toxicity standpoint. Many patients are on 1000 mg of metformin twice a day. On the other hand, if you are new to metformin, watch yourself if driving, and you might want to check your glucose levels an hour after the dose.
Avatar n tn Your mother might want to switch to the long-acting form of Metformin, called Metformin ER, which has fewer side effects in patients. Please discuss this with her doctor.
Avatar f tn Effect of metformin on kidney function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and moderate chronic kidney disease. ... Background: Impaired renal function can lead to the accumulation of metformin, and elevated concentrations of metformin have been associated with lactic acidosis.
Avatar f tn overweight and have type 2 diabetes. I take metformin, janumet, caduet and until yesterday diovan. During a stress test yesterday my systolic bp rose to 260 in a very short time (diastolic was elevated but not so greatly). When my BP has been taken several times throughout the year at rest it has been 120/80 (ish). I am not very active but do walk 1-1/2 miles a day at a moderate rate. The cardiologist took me off of diovan and told me to begin 100 mg toprolol (sp?) immediately.
1897345 tn?1374265855 Metformin is the best for helping PCOS patients with AF. I had three periods in one year and finally went to my doc. He gave me metformin and I got pregnant first try. It was an eptoic and I have other horomone issues but it has regulated my periods and helped me ovulate. Talk to your doctor about this medicine because it really helps. I have done a ton of research on it and know way more than I can type about it.
806995 tn?1265823176 08 metformin study did not make a strong case for adding metformin in all patients, however you might also want to look at a recent Khattab'10 study that looked at adding pioglitazone in geno 4s with HOMA1 gt 2. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19919569 They measured across-the-board improvement in SVR rates 60% vs 39% significant at 0.04. Geno 4s seem to be particularly susceptible to IR-related effects so this may not generalize. Your glucose levels seem pretty high - did your Dr.
