569705 tn?1217017492 gave me pamphlets on hand eczema and the paper said that some eczema is associated with a fungus that also affects the soles of your feet. When I intially went to the dr my feet where already infected. The nails on my hands are also discolored and grow in what I can only describe has "ripples" and crumble off. I have been seeing this dr since January and am not happy with my progress.
Avatar n tn Hi doctor,I have jock itch type fungus for last one year, tried fluconazole but it again came back...then tried itraconazole 200 mg a day with topical clotrimazole, it completely dissappered, but after 15 days it came back. Did this course thrice but it comes back every time. Tried terbinafine also but dint work much.
Avatar m tn e. itraconazole is an antifungal drug which is used for moderate to severe fungal infection. However for mild to moderate fungal infection, topical antifungals are used. But before using any of them diagnosis needs to be confirmed and antifungal drugs have potential side effects. The three main diagnostic tests are potassium hydroxide smear, culture and histology.
Avatar n tn For all types of prescription drugs it is always good to go for a physician examination , diagnosis, confirmation and taking a prescription. The drugs come with lots of side effects etc. Take care!
Avatar m tn http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/nail-fungus/DS00084/DSECTION=treatments%2Dand%2Ddrugs If it is neither then you may have to get a dermatologist's opinion on a possible Melanoma which can start under the toenail on occasion.
1430129 tn?1283281475 I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.
Avatar f tn i have fungu on my finger and also on my toe it been like that for the past six month been to the doctor he give me cream but they are not helping me dont know what else to.
Avatar f tn I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. I'm afraid to take Lamisil though. I've heard the side effects are horrible. Should I be worried?
Avatar n tn It appears as though both of my big toes have a new nail growing in underneath the old nail. The old Nail is raised up quite a bit compared to the new growth, which is about 1/4". I also can see a line on both nails that appears to be where the new nail is at, and that is about 75% to the end of my toe. The new nail looks totally fine. I'm 25 years old. None of my other toenails are affected. No pain or other symptoms of any kind.
Avatar n tn I was okay trying to control(possibly) the fungus on my toes and my thumb and index fingernails. Now it needs like what my wife is having(black dot on her thumb) now resembles what I had once upon a time. I don't want her to fight with fungus. I did see a dermatolgist yesterday and she said my toes are likely fungus-related but she had I didn't have enough nail for samples. Prescribed me Penlac(sp?) and asked me to go back when the toenails grow out... I am so confused now.
Avatar m tn You would have to take a prescription oral drug (Lamisil) for three months then it kills the nail. I just went through this with my toe nail. The nail is usually yellowish.
Avatar f tn Aging is the most common risk factor for nail fungus ..... Nail fungus tends to affect men more often than it does women, particularly those with a family history of this infection.
Avatar m tn I have toe nail fungus on several toes on one foot. Is there a home cure? This discussion is related to TOENAIL FUNGUS.
Avatar f tn Toe nails are more prone to fungal infections, closed footwear, nylon hosiery, socks all provide the perfect breeding ground. Wearing nail varnish on top of these conditions won't have helped but if you were wearing open toe shoes all summer then I'd say you were extremely unlucky in developing a fungal infection. There is some anecdotal evidence that vicks vaporub works. Vinegar slows down the growth of the fungus so may help in eradicating it.

Avatar n tn I really thank you for the valuable info on toenail fungus subject and look forward to more great posts Thanks a lot for enjoying this beauty article with me.
483814 tn?1214311480 About 15 years ago I took sporanox for toe nail fungus, which cleared but then recurred. I then took Lamisil, which cleared the fungus for good. At the time I had undiagnosed Hep C. The manufacturers of both drugs warn that you should perform regular liver function and enzyme tests while taking those drugs. My PCP did not do any testing. He is no longer my PCP. Its nice to have fungus free toenails, but if I had to choose I would keep my liver instead.
Avatar m tn I've been battling toenail fungus for over 6 years .. any advice that actually works? I've tried everything .. vinegar, clorox, all of the Rx creams .. frustrated and tired of it, and embarrased to go barefoot or with sandals.
Avatar n tn Presuming it is actually a fungus, there is a problem because it is under the nail. Outside, on the skin for instance, you would just use Vick's-Vapo-Rub (believe it or not). Getting under the nail is a problem. There are systemic anti-fungals, but my husband did not have much luck with that. He kept painting the nails and pushing stuff under (as far as he could). I think it is pretty well gone now, but it took a long, long time.
