My father says Singilair does help with his nasal polyps, but he also agrees it doesn't do anything for allergies.
hav been taking singulair for 3 years. Cramps in fingers, throat and leg occured common. Shoulders drooped. Standing and sitting posture gone really bad. Extreme tiredness 24X7. Always thirsty even after gulping bottles of water. Inactive physically and mentally. Become even more inferior in social gatherings and activities. Can't even meet minimum commitments and thus affects career and personal, family relationships.
After dropping Everything became normal after 8 - 10 days.
My husband has battled asthma now for over 20 years. 2 years ago he was put on Advair disk inhaler, Singulair, and Allegra D as his regimen. After about a month he started having a problem with his legs and groin itching. He took himself off the Singulair as that is what he decided was the problem. He has gotten by with just the Advair inhaler. In the past month he's really been struggling with breathing problems.
I have been taking Singulair for a few months now and I haven't noticed any negative side effect. I take it along with a daily inhaler for my asthma and it really has helped me a lot.
I find that just taking medications when needed is not really managing my asthma.
I disagree with banshee86 - there is a large spectrum of severity in asthma and something is it not clear. If you are able to identify and stay away from your triggers, the symptoms are gone (might even be able to stop all medication) and thus "normal", well what if you don't know your triggers and unintentionally are removed from it for the time being?

He also gets extreme chapped lips and I am wondering if the three coincide? When he takes singulair and his asthma is well-controlled it seems like his lips get better. We have also noticed that whenever he goes to school his lips look terrible when he comes home. Could he be allergic to something at school? Thank you.
What antihistamines have you used? It wasn't an antihistamine with a decongestant or Benadryl was it?
Singulair can be used for Allergic Rhinitis like you have, however, this is usually prescribed for someone with Asthma issues secondary to Allergic Rhinitis.
What nasal steroid are you using? Most of them can be used long term.
wow that is interesting. My 8 year old has been taking Singulair for over 6 years now and is now on meds for ADD - I wonder if there';s a connection for my son. he is also very anxious.
s the singulair. My 7 year old son was put on it for his asthma and hay fever/ allergies. For the few months he was on it he ended up in hospital twice because his asthma got so bad (he'd never been hospitalised before). His behaviour changed dramatically both at home and school - he was constantly angry, reactive and very often explosive and he began uncharacteristic physical risk-taking. He experienced aches and pains in his arms and legs which he'd never had before.
So sorry to hear that. Is he being seen by a pulmonary specialist? Is he taking any sort of preventative medications apart from ventoIin? He obviously needs to have his asthma controlled. I do know that they don't like to over medicate children on steroid puffers. But I do believe they are allowed up to 400ug/day safely before any side effects become apparent, such as slowed growth. Does he have a lot of air born allergies?
t do anything different then what the allergist is doing (he did not do an xray). The allergist is not saying if he has asthma, not sure I guess. Today he suggested to take off flovent and start taking singulair. I could tell he just wasn't sure what the next step should be. I didn't like what I read today about it. I talked to a pharmacist today and she told me she's been filling that medication for 10 years and never had a parent complain. She suggested to get another chest xray.
Writing that you take breathing treatments and singulair implys you are being treated for asthma. Your runny nose may be a sign of allergic rhinitis and you may have allergic asthma. An examination and testing by an Allergy/Asthma specialist is certainly suggested, and if there are positive allergy results, specific therapy directed at addressing those allergies, may be beneficial.
I have this tightness in my chest i kno its mucus but i dont have a cough or cold it hurts when i try to take a deep breath ive never had chest congestion before im not coughing up blood or anything like that. ive been using my asthma pump because when i was younger i had trouble with asthma it helps clearing my airways so i can breath easier but it comes back after awhile. Singulair is one type of a class of drug called anti-leukotrienes or leukotriene inhibitors. It blocks the activity of undesirable leukotrienes , produced by the body, that cause the symptoms you describe. It is often helpful for the treatment of nasal allergies, its biologic action different than that of antihistamines and inhaled nasal steroids but its actions often complementary to these drugs.

I have alot to say about Singulair but none of it is good, unfortunately. My son was on Singulair for 3 yrs. I finally recognized the side effects he was having and discontinued. He suffered from leg pain, stomach pain, irritability, anxiety, quick to tears, easily frustrated and excessively fearful. At the age of 7, his dosage was increased to 5mg. At that point, it became very clear he was suffering side effects. All of the side effects I mentioned above were multipled x 10.
