Is prempro safe

Common Questions and Answers about Is prempro safe

premarin

Avatar f tn I am not certain that I want to continue with this course of treatment. My question is, how dangerous is prempro when I have a family history of ovarian cancer? My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in her mid 60's and had surgery along with chemo and radiation - she is now cancer free. Should this be a major concern for me if I continue to take the Prempro? Also, are ovarian cysts related to ovarian cancer?
Avatar f tn Thanks again. I will follow recommendations. Other treatments include tamoxifan (sp) by any chance? I guess I'll have to stop Prempro. This is something I will have to talk to Dr. about. Tamoxifan cause hot flashes?
Avatar f tn Recently the doctor changed my Prempro dosage from .45/1.5 mg per day to double that amount. Do you think the change in Prempro could change my thyroid levels? Should I request new thyroid blood tests or wait for my annual testing which comes up in 6 months?
Avatar n tn Count your blessings! Menopause is the time after you have your last period. It is not a short time period....it is forever. So, yes, I would guess you could have mood swings due to menopause any time after. I am 59 and have been on Prempro for about 7 years and just went off them and my hot flashes now are worse than ever! I have severe insomnia (I take sleeping pills every night and sometimes they don't help!
Avatar f tn ve stopped the Prempro cold turkey and thus far, only side effect is a headache, tolerable. Is it better on the body to do a taper of the hormones rather than an abrupt stoppage? Thank you.
237053 tn?1258828426 Okay so I've heard that many women with MS feel much better during pregnancy. So, this question/comment may sound stupid but why don't they treat women with hormones/contraceptives to trick the body into thinking it is pregnant? Is this possible? I've always wondered about that and I'm sure it's much more complex than what I am thinking. But.... Just a thought... Does anyone have any idea/comment on this???
Avatar f tn have one next month none that went on until may had a 7day period then in june it hit I started what was a 23 day period very heavy at times stoped for 5 days then started again. went back to my ob-gyn who told me it was menopause. hormone imbalance put me on prempro I am still bleeding not as heavy been taking it for almost a month he told me it could take up to 3 months to even out in the mean time I think im going crazy cry one minute ok the next along with other issues.
Avatar f tn 40 is a little young to start Menopause, but not unheard of, it can happen. I started @ 49, for 1 year, I would bleed for 7 weeks, then it stop, started, did that for a year. I have not had a period for 2 yrs now. I started gaining weight a little weight in my mid section, I also got very depressed. I'm not a depressed type, always happy, not moody. I had to go on Prempro, it took 2 weeks, I was better.
Avatar n tn It could be the prempro. Ask your doctor about going off of it for a few month and see if that helps. I heard that estrogen can cause congestion along with other medications. I too have non allergic rhinitis but mine is considered Vasomotor rhinitis.k I had this for 6 yrs. but I do not take any medication, just nasal steroid sprays and nasal rinses and it does not do anything. I even had sinus surgery - total ethmoidectomy, opening the ostia of the maxillary sinuses and partial turbinectomy.
Avatar f tn I am 54 yrs. of age and have been period free for 8 yrs. Within the last year and a half I have been seeking treatment for horrible burning inside and out of the vaginal area. My doctor has done many tests and has said that I have vaginal atrophy (sp) and told me to use replens. She also recommended Prempro as I still have a uterus. I no longer have health insurance and can't afford the prempro and the replens DOESN"T work.
Avatar f tn Hi, I posted on Community, but really meant to ask my question here. I recently had a mammogram which showed findings of a cyst. I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. I had an ultrasound the same day which showed an 8 mm benign cyst and several other subcentimeter benign cysts, some with low internal echoes (what are internal echoes?
Avatar f tn I just started prempro 4 nights ago, and my hot flashes (and subsequent clod flashed) and night seats have gotten worse, not better. I'm only (almost) 46 and was taking DHEA and Pregnenolone....and they worked well up until a couple of months ago. I up'd the dosage, and it still won't work for me anymore. I really REALLY didn't/don't want to take synthetics, but it all just became too much...nauseous too....want to cry all the time.
Avatar f tn I have read that estrogen with out Progesterone, is not safe. I am talking about bio-identical hormone therapy, which is very safe, you can get the bio-identical progesterone cream at any health food store. I would sure do this if you plan on taking any kind of "synthetic" Estrogen.
Avatar n tn In the past few months my blood pressure has been really crazy. The diastolic is always over 100 and my doctor has changed my medication now 3 times. Is there possibly an interaction between the Hoodia I'm taking to lose weight and the blood pressure?
Avatar f tn Oncologist opinion that since I am 62, and have been on Prempro for 11 yrs that HRT may have contributed to LCIS, because although LCIS is found in women my age, it is usually found in younger women. Just finished weaninf off the Prempro. Having sweats and flashes, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I am supposed to start Raloxifene. This may cause hot flashes. If severe enough, dr will rx Effexor to treat flashes.
Avatar n tn I take wellbutrin, prempro and maxide. Will the synthroid be okay to take with these and how long until I feel like myself again. I had the surgery a week ago...
Avatar n tn They are certainly the preferred method is some remedy is necessary. Most writings will say that they do not increase the risk. Like most other substances they are better obtained from foods.
754647 tn?1233784665 Called him again today and he takes me off prevera and puts me on prempro. I dont understand why he is putting me on all this hormone medication. I am afraid it will afect me getting pregnat or worse. Has anyone been through this and will it harm me.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterctomy almost 3 years ago at the age of 35 for a borderline serous tumor. My oncologist put me on an estrogen replacement patch and I have been using them ever since. With all the stuff in the news lately about HRT and their new findings, I would love to know your opinion. Are these studies only on women who have gone through natural menopause or do they also include women who were put into surgical menopause at a young age?
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm ok, but I think about this every day since I found out. It bothers me more than I thought it would. I have no known family history, but my mother died at 60 from complications from uterine cancer. I am post menopausal. When I was 49 my husband died and my periods just stopped suddenly and I had only hot flashes. But they were often and I would get drenched at work. So I took Prempro. I never stopped taking it because every time I tried the flashes came back.
518798 tn?1295212279 My question (or should I say questionS) is will I go through menopause earlier, and if so, how do I know? I don’t know if I am just going plain mad or what, but I am truly out on the ledge here. I have had a major headache since Tuesday and do not want anyone to talk to me. No matter what is said to me, I get emotional and fly off the handle. Friday I didn’t go to work and sat in the bed the entire day (awake, not sleeping) without the television, computer or talking to anyone.
Avatar f tn Been on prempro for 2 weeks. Now having a period and feel anxious. Want to stop? Would rather have got flashes. My Dr says wait a couple of months. What do you think?
1112541 tn?1286311213 Hi, I have been taking Menersa for about 5 months and I feel like my old self. It took about 5 or 6 weeks before I felt anything but woke up one morning and said, "Wow! I feel happy and I don't hurt!" One of the ingredients is black cohosh. I won't take estrogen supplements and my doc suggested Estroven, but I liked the sound of the Menersa better and it is an amazing herbal remedy...for me at least. I wish you much success! I know how difficult this time can be.
Avatar n tn It is good that your doctor is going to check your uterine lining to see why it is thick. The good news is that it usually takes up to 10 years of uterine thickening to turn into cancer. So while cancer of the uterus is possible, most likely it won't be. But it still needs to be diagnosed and treated. Talk to your doctor about lower dosages of estrogen and progesterone that might not cause the bloating. Alternative choices are also available.
Avatar f tn I have burning and itching in vaginal area and horrible dry skin that also itches. I have been told to go on Prempro by my Dr. Does it help? I still have a uterus and I am afraid of HRT after all the hype i have heard. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated that worked for all of you that have suffered with this! Thank you!!!
