Is novolog and novolin the same

Common Questions and Answers about Is novolog and novolin the same

novolog

Avatar f tn Does anyone have any experience with this? Is the Novolog pen comparable with the NPH and Reg regamen? I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched. I asked my dr about it and he said that the Novolin was fast acting and the Novolg was slower and was supposed to be better control. I just dont see it.
Avatar m tn I did finally settle on the 70/30 mix, you can get the pens but it is much cheaper to just inject yourself, I get the needles that are the same size as the pens.....good luck, it took me awhile to figure this one out (along with Dr.
Avatar n tn But as LRS has written, each person is different, and there really IS no set standard that is perfect for each person. With this disease, some trial and error is absolutely necessary in order to discover what works best for the individual. Furthermore,I want to point out that while Forum-vol-cmb finds that one unit of insulin per 12 grams of carbohydrate is perfect, this ratio is certainly individual, and every person has his or her own proper insulin-to-carb ration.
Avatar n tn I had to go on county insurance because I lost my job, and they wont cover Humalog or Novolog. The only fast acting insulin they cover is Novolin R. The problem is that I am on an insulin pump. I know this stuff is different than what I was taking (Humalog, or the equivelent Novolog), but I don't know what it is going to do to me. My doctor isn't knowledgable and I'm stuck with her. I can't go anywhere else.
Avatar n tn m not a diabetic, but my husband is a T1. He is 29 (almost 30) and was diagnosed at the age of 8. He is also on the Novolog/Lantus combination and like the other posts, loves it. It works well for him. He also adjusts his dosages pending on his readings, what he's eating, or what kind of activities he's doing. Of course, this was all ok'd by his endo in the beginning. Hope it works well for you as well.
704262 tn?1247674638 Yes, you can take Novolog and Lantus in separate injections, but they may not be mixed in the same injection or at the same injection site. Generally Novolog is only prescribed if you follow a strict physician-approved routine. If you have a meter and strictly monitor results of various combinations under vary circumstances use of both medications should cause no problems. Be careful using the Novolog because you can easily drop your blood sugar to very low levels.
Avatar m tn Would any of these diseases contribute to sudden weight loss? I have been close/over 350 lbs for years, but in the last several months I have dropped a significant amount of weight. I'm down to 287. (20 lbs in the last four weeks alone.) I wish I could say it's because I'm exercising or eating right... but I'm not. I've made no change to physical activity or diet. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I have noticed the beginning stages of cellulite around the areas where I give the Novolog injection. I am a 27 year old, juvenile onset diabetic. I am thin for my height and have never had a problem with cellulite until the change in medication. Can this be linked to either of the new insulins that I am taking?
12861759 tn?1432917955 when your 4 hour PP BG is the same as your pre-meal BG then you took the correct amount of novolog for the carbs you eat. WHen your Pre-meal is under 130 and your fasting is under 130 your Lantus is correct.
209227 tn?1242346745 hi i think the only slight difference is thaat humalog is slightly faster to act and be absorbed but they are exactly the same otherwise x
Avatar n tn Steve, here is what I know about insulins and insulin pumps. Please consult your doctor for more details: Insulins: Novolog (aspart),onset 5-10 mins, peak 1-3 hrs, duration 3-5 hrs Humalog (lispro), onset <15 mins, peak .5-1.5 hrs, duration 2-4 Regular, onset .
Avatar n tn I think the problem centers on the fac that she is on Novolog and NPH in the morning and then she is on Novolog and Lantusin the evening. NPH lasts 12-18 hours and Lantus lasts 18-26 hours. I think those doses are overlapping. My question to the Dr. would be why is she on Lantus and NPH??!?!?!?!? It is important to note that a diluted blood sample will produce a diluted reading.
Avatar n tn I was also a teenager with diabetes and it is not easy. I now have daughter your age. So keep up the good work and you will see the benefits in the years to come. Now to your question...Your doctor is really the best person to ask about adjusting your insulin. But as a fellow diabetic, here are a few of my thoughts. First, I wouldn't check my blood sugar before 2 to 2 1/2 hours after a meal. It takes a while for food to get into your system and for the insulin to work.
Avatar f tn That hurts!! I am not a hypochondriac. Never have been. Just sick of being sick. My nutrition is good. And yes this is from the addison's post also. One of the Dr. on here told me that my tests results and symptoms could be addison's. I have been working really hard on trying to resolve this. My diabetic dr. said this decrease so rapidly is NOT normal. I asked this question to see if anyone else might have gone through something like this.
Avatar f tn What I do know is that novolin (Regular) is a very outdated mode of insulin. The Lantus you were on was a newer basal (long-acting) insulin, but wouldn't work as well unless it was combined with a bolus (fast-acting) insulin before meals. That is the standard of care. I would see an endocrinologist and get on appropriate insulin regimen because 150-300 is much too high to sustain blood sugars.
Avatar f tn Novolog is before meals And Lantus is before bed or late in the evening.
Avatar f tn Yeah I wanna change too, but the thing is that since I'm in a high risk clinic, and there's one doctor, which he's the main doctor and all the other doctors report to him, and he only goes for a couple of hours on Monday, and this lady that is seeing me, she's the one that is suggesting me takin a lot of insulin and is actually higher now that I'm taking it than before, I don't like her, but some Monday she's there by herself
Avatar f tn I take 40 units Lantus (long acting), and sliding scale Novolog (fast acting) insulins. My bg is always so high in the mornings, I have to take Novolog and wait for sugar to come down to eat. I've had diabetes for many years, but never knew for sure which one! My dr would switch my diagnosis all the time. But went to endo and they did a blood test, and said I'm type 1. I'm angry my dr. never did anything about this.
Avatar f tn s dose when needed, and do a curve after 5 days of the same dose. That is how you see what is happening and how the dog is metabolizing insulin. 3. A normal starting dose is 1/4 of the body weight, so 5 or 5 1/2 units twice/day would have been the normal starting dose for him. 3 units is not enough. 4. If your dog is subject to vomiting, it's a good idea to wait until 30 min after eating to make sure he keeps the food down.
