Is humulin the same as novolin

Common Questions and Answers about Is humulin the same as novolin

humulin

Avatar f tn What I do know is that novolin (Regular) is a very outdated mode of insulin. The Lantus you were on was a newer basal (long-acting) insulin, but wouldn't work as well unless it was combined with a bolus (fast-acting) insulin before meals. That is the standard of care. I would see an endocrinologist and get on appropriate insulin regimen because 150-300 is much too high to sustain blood sugars.
Avatar f tn They carry it under the Relion name, but it is the same as Humulin N, which is another nph insulin, similar to novolin. Most dogs do well on either Novolin N or Humulin N. Personally, I found Humulin N to work better for my dog. The cost of a bottle of insulin at WalMart is about $25 compared to $50 for the same thing at a regular retail pharmacy. 7. There are many diets you can use. You are not limited to w/d, which the vets seem to push!
Avatar n tn I MYSELF CAN SAY THE SAME. HUMULIN-N HAS SWOLLEN ME UP. I HAVE GAINED OVER 50 LBS. I ASKED MY DOCTOR TO PUT ME BACK ON 70/30 AT MY LAST OFFICE VISIT LAST WEEK.
Avatar f tn I was doing well with the Novolin and I am confused as to why I was swithched. I asked my dr about it and he said that the Novolin was fast acting and the Novolg was slower and was supposed to be better control. I just dont see it. I am also feeling very tired (and my readings are ver high 311) so I know that it is not b/c of low blood sugar, and also headaches ever since I started the Novlolog70/30. I felt better before...Just really confused....
Avatar m tn I am taking Humulin-N but my sugar level every morning is around 225.
Avatar f tn You're a good friend to be concerned about your friends well being. If "N" is Humulin N, there is no "standard" Humulin N dose that will work for all people or even for the same person in all situations. This applies to other insulin types too. If your friends at home test results show low glucose levels "several times per week" it is time to have his/her insulin dosages re-evaluated by their physician.
Avatar f tn I am battling the same issue but for the last three weeks I have been doing well. I take Novolin N and Novolin R. I found that the issue was more food than the dosage. As the pregnancy progresses the doctor told me I may require more but i have been balancing good on 20 n and 10 r in the am and 12 and 12 at night.
2094297 tn?1345389093 Are you also taking metformin. Please ask your dr about this, it may help if it is suitable as it is an insulin sensitising medication. My best advice to you would be to get on a very low carb diet (ketogenic), as this will help you control your blood sugars. basically no sugars in your diet and carbs come from non-starchy veges, nuts, a little dairy. Look up Richard Bernstein "Diabetes Solutions".
Avatar m tn I did finally settle on the 70/30 mix, you can get the pens but it is much cheaper to just inject yourself, I get the needles that are the same size as the pens.....good luck, it took me awhile to figure this one out (along with Dr.
Avatar n tn t long enough to get the insulin through. I know sometimes the butt is hard to reach, but the thighs are a good place to try as well.
Avatar m tn You can contact the companies to see if they have a program where they help people in financial, or see if you have any income-based clinics in your area.
Avatar f tn Also, oxy is more soluble and I believe it is a first pass metabolite, meaning it crosses the blood brain barrier after one pass thru the liver, where hydro is metabolized twice by the liver before becoming active. Oxy is much more powerfull than hydro per milligram and has a meaner withdrawel too.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I have taken Phythmol for yrs and all I can say Is I didn't have to start it in a hospital and it is in the same class as Flecainide but i really don't think it is as strong a drug. It helped me stay out of arrhythmia but like all the rest, it eventually becomes pro-arrhythmic and will actually bring on episodes....it may be months...it may be years...but it will happen.
Avatar n tn So the idea is to adjust the insulin dose in order to try to reach that ideal range as often as possible throughout the day.
Avatar n tn If you are in US I understand you can buy the old insulins (Humulin N and R over the counter in wallmart quite cheaply). This will be better than none. You can also get cheaper meter and strips the same way. I assume you do know how to use insulin properly. You need to check how you can get assistance. Do you have a Dr? Can you get access to any assistance. Sounds like you might be in trouble with really high blood sugars. Juice can make your sugars very high.
Avatar n tn And I have noticed that different doctors use slightly different formulas, but the net math is very close to the same in the different formulas I have learned about. Here's the one that works for me: First, you find the base number of units it takes to perfectly cover 15 carbs for YOU. That becomes your base humalog dose. Then, you add 1 unit for each additional 15 carbs you eat at the meal.
743006 tn?1232596733 i am a recovering heroin addict using methadone as my my recovery method and i have diabetes 2 and take insulin daily as well, i take 100mg methadone liquid and 20 units of Humulin N type insulin once nitely. during the day i seem ok and around 5 or 6 pm i start to go thru withdrawls really bad to wher i want drugs so far i forced myself to go to bed and havent used again i been clean since the day after thanksgiving this year a few months.
Avatar f tn I did some reserch on line and found there are all kinds of side effects, damage to the kidneys, liver and G.I. issues. For the last year I have had IBS and now my blood sugar is climbing, (only my fasting). Needless to say I have quit taking the injections because I'm afraid it has caused these changes. Has anyone else had these sort of problems? I'm going to see my Dr. in a few weeks and I want to be better informed.
Avatar f tn A primary issue is whether or not Humalin 70/30 is appropriate. Your condition might be treated with an alternative, such as Lantus plus Metformin, or another oral drug. Because abnormal blood sugar levels induced by injectable insulin can cause you to have a fatal automobile accident and injure or endanger others, it is not a drug that should be administered except under a physician's supervision - at least until the situation is well in hand.
