I want to Thank You both fo your answers My dr took me off of novalin and put me on Humulin 15 units twice a day and it is working some what better I take the humulin like I did the Novalin 15 minutes before meals sugars are doing some better not running near as high as it was on the Lantus If I do not see any results in the next couple of weeks will ask to be referred to and endro

They carry it under the Relion name, but it is the same as Humulin N, which is another nph insulin, similar to novolin. Most dogs do well on either Novolin N or Humulin N. Personally, I found Humulin N to work better for my dog. The cost of a bottle of insulin at WalMart is about $25 compared to $50 for the same thing at a regular retail pharmacy.

I asked my dr about it and he said that the Novolin was fast acting and the Novolg was slower and was supposed to be better control. I just dont see it. I am also feeling very tired (and my readings are ver high 311) so I know that it is not b/c of low blood sugar, and also headaches ever since I started the Novlolog70/30. I felt better before...Just really confused....
The person tests their blood sugar before each meal and at bed time and compares the result to the scale prescribed by the doctor and inject the appropriate amount of insulin (if indicated). It is a good idea to record these levels in a journal so it can be shared with the doctor.
The idea is to keep the blood sugar at a steady, consistent level. If your friend's sugar is not consistent, he or she needs to see their health care provider for a thorough check up.
I have the same issue I was on glyberide then they have me the highest dosage it didn't work now I'm on insulin that doesn't work even with diet so I'm just being careful I ended up losing weight on the diet and the meds .I don't want my baby to suffer so I been just eating normal they drive you crazy these doctors I cried for day and felt like my body was defying me.

Some people find that one works more effectively than the other, so which is used is really up to the patient. Humulin, more commonly called Humulin NPH, and even more commonly called just NPH, is a long acting insulin. It is absorbed more slowly, and it's effects last longer, about 12 hours. Usually NPH is used in combination with one of the fast acting insulins. An alternative long acting insulin would be Lantus.

You came to a good place to get some answers and I find a few questions embedded in your posting. I'm not a physician, but I have had diabetes for ~35 years.
Often we diabetics will lose weight if our blood sugars are running consistently high. The reason is that, since the sugar is "swimming" in our blood and not nourishing our other cells (muscles, skin, organs), we urinate out lots of calories taht we consume.
By this, I mean that if my glucose levels are on the low side of normal I sometimes wait a half hour before injecting the Novalog if my meal carbohydrates are the type that are slower to be digested, such as fats mixed with carbs. The Novalog does peak fairly quickly, so you may have to check at about 2 hours after a meal to see if your dosage is matching digestion times perfectly.
