Common Questions and Answers about Irbesartan hctz medication

Avatar n tn m currently taking Irbesartan every morning and is now controlled well. I enjoy traveling in hot conditions, some days can be up to 39 degrees. Can my blood pressure medication stand such heat if I was to say just put it in my wallet? I'm always traveling to different places and don't always have access to a fridge or ice to take on hand. If not, are there any other heat resistance BP medication i can try?
Avatar m tn I am a male 70 years of age. I have been on 150mg Irbesartan and 5mg Amlodipine daily since October 2010. This controlled by BP within acceptable limits. Since late April, however, the systolic has risen to an average of around 150. My doctor wants me to add a beta blocker to the other medications. Since last October my heart rate was averaging below 60. Since late April it is averaging around 70.
Avatar m tn Your father has occluded coronary vessels (ischemia) and apparently high blood pressure being treated with irbesartan and lasix is a diuretic. Clopidogrel is an anti-platelet medication to prevent clots. The reduced ejection fraction of 16% may be causing fluid buildup in the lungs and peripherals (arms and legs). I had an EF below 29% and was diagnosed with congested heart faiure...congestion was due to fluids in the lungs.
Avatar f tn Haven't started the new medication yet. I read the info sheet and it said "this medication may cause vision loss or other unwanted side effects" although most of the common vision problems and eye pain may be temporary and would be reversed if stopping the medication was what I was told. Further research says HCTZ may be associated with severe eye conditions that may lead to permanent impairment such as glaucoma etc, although I don't know how common that is.
Avatar n tn Can you please advise if I am taking high blood pressure medication (irbesartan) and Altorvastatin for high cholesteron and I am also taking Tamoxafin for breast cancer (about to come off this drug), is it adviseable to take Leptin Cocoa for health weight loss or would this affect the medications?
Avatar m tn If you think of using the irbesartan, remember it is a blood pressure medication. It could cause you dizziness, or even synkope if you get up too rapidly in the morning. Also, clear this approach with your doctors in Pisa. I expect that they will be quite fascinated by the chance to block hbv entry with a harmless, often rather beneficial blood pressure medication.
Avatar f tn what is the difference between triam/hctz 37.5-25 sandoz and triam/hctz 37.5-25 lan. my boyfriend has been taking triam/hctz 37.5-25 sandoz and did fine when they refilled his script the pills are different and are called triam/hctz 37.
Avatar f tn Yes, it is true that you will not necessarily have a reaction to HCTZ if you have a sulfa allergy. A small percentage of people (< 15%) do have cross-reactivity to HCTZ when they have a sulfa allergy. If you have had a severe reaction to sulfa antibiotics then we would probably recommend avoiding HCTZ.
Avatar n tn I am a 43 year old hypopara patient. I used HCTZ for 10 years to control my blood calcium. Last year, I got one morning and my heart rate when up to 128. My endo took me off HCTZ and my internal put me on Lopressor. I contued having a high heart rate after HCTZ was out of my system. This year, I was put back on HCTZ due to high urine calcium content but I could not tolerate the drug at all.
Avatar m tn i am on diovan 360mg twice a day, betaxolo 10mg and hctz 25 mg. and i cannot loose weight, I have gained 20 lobs after taking the hctz for a year or more. Not matter how little I eat or how much i exercise I gain. I have tried stopping the hctz and then my bp shoot up. Help!!!
Avatar n tn These beta blockers caused me so much problem that I requested him to give other medications like HCTZ. Now I am on HCTZ 25 mg. BP stays around 140/77-pulse around 60 but I feel chest pain two hours after taking and bp shoots up in the night off and on. Please help me with your comments and suggestions. Thanks.
481256 tn?1208392293 t use OTC meds b/c the caffeine does not agree with me), and he prescribed me triamterene/hctz 37.5/25mg. Is this too strong of a medication? I am nervous that it may make my blood pressure drop too low. Is there anything else you would recommend?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with hypertension/high BP in June when the nurse at work sent me to ER with a BP of 210/120. I was immediately put on Norvasc 10mg and HCTZ 25mg daily. My pressure came down to 160/80 and after seeing my doc he said come back in 6 months. After questioning why I had high blood pressure and not getting any answers I asked to see another doc and he added Lisinopril 10mg and said come back in 6 months. Since then BP has been steady at 130's/40's.
Avatar f tn I think there should be a specialty in medicine for people suffering from medication side effects and for those who are hypersensitive to medications. I need to be on medication for high blood pressure. I have tried HCTZ, toporal XL, Verapamil, Atacand, and am now on Coreg. The doctors are getting fed up with me because I can't tolerate the side effects, but I can't help it. I wish they could feel what I feel so they would know this is no picnic for me.
Avatar n tn I am taking HCTZ for about 16 days but after 12 days it is causing me chest pain off and on. It starts after 2 hours of taking the tablet and prolongs for another six hours. Can somebody help me on this. My doctor says it doesn't happen with HCTZ. Thanks.
Avatar m tn But, if you have angina, it should be treated as angina is an indication your heart is not receiving sufficient blood. This can/will damage heart cells and can lead to ischemic heart failure. HCTZ is medication to reduce fluids, and less blood volume lowers the heart's workload as well as edema (fluids leaking into tissues). You may need to change your perscription or increase dosage; don't permit your heart to have an insufficient supply of blood oxygen...
Avatar m tn m male, 22 years old, 6,3 220 pounds athletic build, and I have currently been taking 100mg losartan/hctz 25mg for hypertension about 7 months ago. Since I have been on this medicine I have experienced skipped/extra beats when I exert myself in exercise. It's very troubling because I stop myself every time because I feel like I may be over doing it. The thing is I never had this happen before I started the meds. I also feel my pulse all over like in temples, head, back, legs.....
Avatar n tn I am told this is an excellent medication and typically very well tolerated. I tried Toprol XL before for several months. Did not tolerate it well, mainly due to severe nightmares. Once removed from the Toprol, nightmares stopped. Is this a different class of beta blocker that is safer and what (if anything) should I be concerned about? Meds are aspirin (81), protonix (40), HCTZ (25), Lisinopril (10-20) sertraline (50) and now the 6.25 carvedilol.
Avatar f tn of Cardizem LA once a day and was curious if anyone else here was taking this medication? If so, what side effects do or did you have? So far (only the first day) I haven't had any. Also, did the medication work for you as far as lowering your blood pressure?
Avatar m tn I have been on cozaar for 15 years. 4 years ago I was also placed on HCTZ, due to increasing BP. 7 weeks ago, after getting quarterly labs done, my PCP said my calcium was too high and took me off the HCTZ. She also said my TSH levels were high and placed me on synthroid. Last week I had office visit and my BP was 150/90. My doctor then put me on metaprolol. I started getting headaches every day. My BP remained at 150 to 160 over 90 to 100.
Avatar f tn Weaning off of them is difficult - one every other day for a week and stop is not good, especially without some other form of medication. Taking hctz most likely lowered your potassium level which can cause muscle weakness, severe fatigue, and raise your BP. Taking a beta blocker on the heels of low potassium can make it feel like someone has pulled your plug - breathlessness, more fatigue, heaviness in legs, and slow heart rate (a pulse of 40 - 50).
Avatar f tn I've been lactating and wasn't sure if I was pregnant. My doctor did a blood test to see if I was and also did a hormone test to see why I was lactating if by chance I wasn't pregnant. Also at that visit she put me on hctz because I've been retaining water and wanted me to take it every other day. She called yesterday morning to let me know that I am in fact pregnant, this was after I had just taken the hctz. She of course toldme not to take it anymore..
Avatar f tn I had a problem before with Potassium loss from HCTZ. I was taken off of it when I went to the emergency ward, for certain symptons. My pressure is fine now unless Im in a Dr.s office. .... Now I take Fosinopril 40 and Verapamil 80 twice a day which is working perfectly.. The last docter wanted to try me on HCTZ once more telling me to drink alot of orange juice. After a month of taking it he realized I dont need them. My pressure goes up with anxiety of docters.
Avatar n tn He may adjust the dose or decide to change the medication all together. I noticed in your post that you are trying to get pregnant, while this medication is safe to take while you are pregnant...if you are planning to breastfeed, this drug can be passed through breast milk and cause harm to your baby. I just thought that this is something you might want to know. I wish you the best of luck as you try to get pregnant!
Avatar m tn So, my cardio took me off of the ramipril and put me on 12.5 mg of metoprolol twice a day and in addition to my 12.5 of HCTZ. However, after a week of feeling exhausted, having a resting heart rate consistently in the low 50s, and not much higher otherwise, I complained during my follow up. My cardio gave me some samples of 10 mg coreg to take once a day and a prescription to fill if the side effects from the metoprolol do not get any better.
