Avatar f tn Eithne01, The treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) has changed significantly since the late 1990s, with the development and subsequent approval by the Food and Drug Administration of imatinib (in 2001), the first of a class of medications called tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which target the specific abnormality that causes CML. Before that time, patients were treated with other therapy, including interferon and bone marrow transplant, and had very poor outcomes.
Avatar n tn It is possible that the white blood cell count would normalize after 2 weeks of taking Imatinib (Gleevec). Most responses to Imatinib are rapid since it targets the molecular pathogenetic event in CML. You may seek a second opinion if that will give you a peace of mind. Good luck.
1004138 tn?1316251113 lots of people die all the time because they reject traditional treatments and go with 'natural' things instead I would think of using alternatives along with regular treatments, but not in place of them. Some alternative things might have some benefit. Isn't homeopathy the approach where you dilute some substance down to one part per billion or so, and then expect it to actually have some curing power?
Avatar n tn Are you currently on any medication like imatinib? The neutropenia can be due to your current medication. You can ask your hematologist for G-CSF injection if you have persistent neutropenia. Patients with CML are immunocompromised and can easily acquire infections. Neutropenia also puts a patient in an immunocompromised state. For now, it is very important to prevent acquiring any infection. You should avoid crowded places and persons with ongoing infection. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Hi. Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) is a blood disorder caused by an acquired genetic defect in the pleripotent stem cell. It has several phases: indolent chronic or stable phase, aggressive or advanced phase, and accelerated and blastic phase. The transition between phases may take years (on the average, 4 to 6 years from the stable phase to aggressive phase).
Avatar f tn Average survival rates are generalizations, not applicable to a particular patient. The prognosis is relatively good. Newer techniques are being tried, including imatinib and stem cell transplantation. All the best, and God Bless!
Avatar f tn I'm a 42 female and had a GIST in my stomach that the surgeon removed along with a part of my stomach and also my gallbladder was removed almost 3 months ago. The GIST came back as non-cancerous. I just started experiencing moderate pain right under my right side under the last rib right where my gallbladder was. The pain comes and goes every 4 seconds and lasted for 4 hours. It started out earlier today with being sore around that area and then the pain started.
665881 tn?1248926997 The team found that mice designed to express a large amount of the neuropeptide ‘galanin’ were completely resistant to the MS-like disease, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). Transgenic mice that contained no galanin at all developed a more severe form of the disease. Subsequent tests on human brain tissue affected by MS showed galanin to be specifically upregulated in MS lesions and shadow plaques, which are often seen in acute MS.
Avatar m tn You are doing the right thing by making sure you are properly treated and have the gist of your situation. You must be sure to follow up because studies have shown, unfortunately, that gonorrhoea is becoming resistant to antibiotics. This is why it's often referred to as "the clap" because people think that they have been treated for it when they weren't and assumed that it some how returned. As far as any other STIs goes, there is an incubation period as cutegirl provided.
Avatar f tn Congrats
Avatar f tn TY for the reply. Yes I was told and am thinking that its parasitc or allergy. I went to aruba in June but that wouldn't have an affect on me now, would it?
6013893 tn?1378341898 Well first off I'd like to say keep on toking (figured w/ the 420 name lol) ! I hvnt been diagnosed but they suspect it's either chroans or a tumor so I am hopeful. The pain is unbearable! If I were you I'd look into filing for disability. Once you have a diagnosis it's easier to get & there are lawyers to assist you!!! Just curious ... can you list all of your symptoms? I am trying to compare mine to others. The docs think it's GIST (which *****!
Avatar f tn Hello, I could really use some advice about a problem I have had for 3-4 years with episodes of nausea and vomiting, often followed by a terrible headache as well as other symptoms. Initially, I would be woken at random several hours into the night with sudden onset of vomiting undigested food. I would be violently ill with sweats, shaking, and ears ringing as if I was going to pass out. This would happen every 2-3 months or so. I also had some gnawing stomach pain.
Avatar f tn It is not usual to be resistant to acyclovir, it doesn't attack the virus directly, but removes the building blocks of the virus. It may be that you have another immune issue. People with thyroid issues for example can experience ongoing outbreaks. Is your diet healthy? Are stress levels up? I'm not a fan of supplements as I don't believe they substitute or add to the positive properties of a good diet.
Avatar f tn Have you ever heard of anyone being Coumadin resistant? I am 34 and had an aortic valve replacement in 2003 (St. Jude Valve). I could write a book about what has happened to me since (several minor surgeries & procedures) but my largest issue is that I cannot get theraputic. My INR will not go above 1.5/1.6. And yes, I know all about the Vit K interactions and anything else that is possible to Google about interactions.
Avatar f tn Hi, My skin is very sensitive, I have eczema and other chronic skin problems. This summer I got 3 different insect bites on my legs, each bite developed into red, itchy, swelling and warm to touch with 2 days. Each time I called my doctor and he said it's a combination of skin infection and my allergic reaction to the bites. Each time I'm prescribed with antibiotic and it has helped me.
Avatar m tn I have drug resistant depression, well Bipolar. I have been treated for 30 years. I also have other illnesses with constant pain such as MS. I found a good Psychiatrist who tries different things. I also have a therapist who I talk to and teaches me self hypnosis. My Doctors are looking at ECT. I am not sure how I feel about it yet. I may not be able to have it anyway because of my headaches. I personally am trying to do the best I can.
Avatar f tn Sha started chemio carboplatin, doctors says for prevention, but we were unlucky again. She turned out to be platinum resistant, so tumor came back during chemio, she just had 4. She had PET scan and tumor was all around, polmon, liver, intestin, suspect od peritoneal carcinosys, and a big one 12 cm on her muscle. They took a piece of that last one to check and now is G3. Her CA125 was 133 before starting second line treatment with Caelyx/Doxyl. They said she had very few changes to success.
Avatar m tn trichomoniasis is only treated with flagyl in the United states, so kinda like mrsa its becomming resistant to that medication its building up a resistance to it.
