The treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) has changed significantly since the late 1990s, with the development and subsequent approval by the Food and Drug Administration of imatinib (in 2001), the first of a class of medications called tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which target the specific abnormality that causes CML.
Before that time, patients were treated with other therapy, including interferon and bone marrow transplant, and had very poor outcomes.
Myelosuppression with neutropenia (decrease in neutrophils) and thrombocytopenia (decrease in platelet count) can be a side effect of treatment. Usually, discontinuation of drug intake is advised until the blood counts increase. You should have your white blood cell count repeated after 1-2 weeks and see if it already improves. You should report to your doctor if you experience any symptoms like fever.
I have been diagnosed with CML since Novmber of 2007. I am still a little confused about some things. and i guess when my WBC's got back to 4.5 I was excited and thought I was all good- In the clear huh... Well in less than a month my WBC's dropped back down to 1.8 and they say that I am good as long as I don't go past 1.5. Ok fine. I don't go back for another month and I already feel like **** and have had pneumonia 2x in the past month.
You did not say much in your post. Were you on Sprycel at all? There is a large amount of people who have had pleural effusions due to the use of Sprycel for their CML.
If your on Gleevec, then you are mostly under the care of an oncologist. Did you ask your doctor? Your question is a bit evasive. I would speak to whatever doctor is treating you.

After diagnosis of CML, the patient can be given Imatinib (I'm not sure if this is the "miracle pill" you mentioned). Imatinib will not cause her to lose her hair.
For a week or so i had diarrheah. I had a tired and not well look. Eyes were swollen. In general i had pain in chest and throat. I had about 2 days where it wasn't painful. My eyes are a lil yellowish. Can get a lil fast heart beat and temp went up aobut 2 degrees. There were a couple of days that i had a sore throat (late at night early morning). The sides of my mymoth on the inside were a lil swollen. When i ate i bit the inside of my cheek.
However, with the normal AST range of 8 to 39, a value of 47 might still be in the normal or certainly near-normal range, especially considering elevations of several hundred in a number of disease states. In essence, please do not make too much of the AST of 47. Were the AST elevation due to MD, one would also expect an elevation of creatine phosphokinase (CPK), an enzyme that is contained in skeletal and cardiac muscle.

Speaking of expert opinion, you would do well to consult with knowledgeable physicians with a special interest in vascular diseases, including CSS, and in hypereosinophilic states; physicians with both clinical experience and understanding of the basic science involved. Your doctors would almost certainly be able to identify such individuals or research institutions.

While I truly want to believe that, I have basically had tingling and numbness in all ten fingers on and off since August. When I am feeling no stress in my life at all, I get it. I also have a patch of numbness on the top of my right foot...this has been explained to me as nerve damage from all my knee surgeries I have had four 15 years (a dance injury).
