Avatar f tn Eithne01, The treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) has changed significantly since the late 1990s, with the development and subsequent approval by the Food and Drug Administration of imatinib (in 2001), the first of a class of medications called tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which target the specific abnormality that causes CML. Before that time, patients were treated with other therapy, including interferon and bone marrow transplant, and had very poor outcomes.
Avatar n tn 7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
Avatar n tn Myelosuppression with neutropenia (decrease in neutrophils) and thrombocytopenia (decrease in platelet count) can be a side effect of treatment. Usually, discontinuation of drug intake is advised until the blood counts increase. You should have your white blood cell count repeated after 1-2 weeks and see if it already improves. You should report to your doctor if you experience any symptoms like fever.
1004138 tn?1316251113 lots of people die all the time because they reject traditional treatments and go with 'natural' things instead I would think of using alternatives along with regular treatments, but not in place of them. Some alternative things might have some benefit. Isn't homeopathy the approach where you dilute some substance down to one part per billion or so, and then expect it to actually have some curing power?
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with CML since Novmber of 2007. I am still a little confused about some things. and i guess when my WBC's got back to 4.5 I was excited and thought I was all good- In the clear huh... Well in less than a month my WBC's dropped back down to 1.8 and they say that I am good as long as I don't go past 1.5. Ok fine. I don't go back for another month and I already feel like **** and have had pneumonia 2x in the past month.
Avatar m tn You did not say much in your post. Were you on Sprycel at all? There is a large amount of people who have had pleural effusions due to the use of Sprycel for their CML. If your on Gleevec, then you are mostly under the care of an oncologist. Did you ask your doctor? Your question is a bit evasive. I would speak to whatever doctor is treating you.
Avatar n tn indolent chronic or stable phase, aggressive or advanced phase, and accelerated and blastic phase. The transition between phases may take years (on the average, 4 to 6 years from the stable phase to aggressive phase). After diagnosis of CML, the patient can be given Imatinib (I'm not sure if this is the "miracle pill" you mentioned). Imatinib will not cause her to lose her hair.

1530342 tn?1405016490 The traditional way was long application forms, pages and pages of medical history, and instead of contacting individual insurances one by one, this is all in one place with one single phone number you can call for help, so in the meantime they will help us sign up. Avatar f tn However, with the normal AST range of 8 to 39, a value of 47 might still be in the normal or certainly near-normal range, especially considering elevations of several hundred in a number of disease states. In essence, please do not make too much of the AST of 47. Were the AST elevation due to MD, one would also expect an elevation of creatine phosphokinase (CPK), an enzyme that is contained in skeletal and cardiac muscle. HS is a heterogeneous group of diseases.
Avatar f tn I now get it. Im all in. I can no longer stand the addict lifestyle. I cant do this anymore. NO pill is ever going to do it for me. No pill will ever make things right. Its my time and today Im taking it back for me. Overeasy- over and out.
962875 tn?1314210036 Watch Out For Interactions with Tamoxifen (Nolvadex) Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and tamoxifen (NOLVADEX ) is used commonly in the treatment and sometimes in the prevention of this disease. In 2007, 1.7 million prescriptions were filled for tamoxifen. However, recent evidence suggests that certain other drugs can reduce the anti-cancer effects of tamoxifen, potentially increasing cancer recurrence and reducing survival.

Avatar f tn Speaking of expert opinion, you would do well to consult with knowledgeable physicians with a special interest in vascular diseases, including CSS, and in hypereosinophilic states; physicians with both clinical experience and understanding of the basic science involved. Your doctors would almost certainly be able to identify such individuals or research institutions.
Avatar f tn I plan to get tested in two days but i'm so nervous. In January I had oral sex and the guy came in my mouth. Now I've been diagnosed with ibs but wondering is that all it is? I have no fever out swollen glands. Just erratic bowel movements and consistencies. Is this stress and anxiety our HIV?
Avatar m tn While I truly want to believe that, I have basically had tingling and numbness in all ten fingers on and off since August. When I am feeling no stress in my life at all, I get it. I also have a patch of numbness on the top of my right foot...this has been explained to me as nerve damage from all my knee surgeries I have had four 15 years (a dance injury).
