Common Questions and Answers about Imatinib fertility

Avatar f tn Eithne01, The treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) has changed significantly since the late 1990s, with the development and subsequent approval by the Food and Drug Administration of imatinib (in 2001), the first of a class of medications called tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which target the specific abnormality that causes CML. Before that time, patients were treated with other therapy, including interferon and bone marrow transplant, and had very poor outcomes.
Avatar n tn It is possible that the white blood cell count would normalize after 2 weeks of taking Imatinib (Gleevec). Most responses to Imatinib are rapid since it targets the molecular pathogenetic event in CML. You may seek a second opinion if that will give you a peace of mind. Good luck.
1004138 tn?1316251113 lots of people die all the time because they reject traditional treatments and go with 'natural' things instead I would think of using alternatives along with regular treatments, but not in place of them. Some alternative things might have some benefit. Isn't homeopathy the approach where you dilute some substance down to one part per billion or so, and then expect it to actually have some curing power?
Avatar n tn Are you currently on any medication like imatinib? The neutropenia can be due to your current medication. You can ask your hematologist for G-CSF injection if you have persistent neutropenia. Patients with CML are immunocompromised and can easily acquire infections. Neutropenia also puts a patient in an immunocompromised state. For now, it is very important to prevent acquiring any infection. You should avoid crowded places and persons with ongoing infection. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Hi. Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) is a blood disorder caused by an acquired genetic defect in the pleripotent stem cell. It has several phases: indolent chronic or stable phase, aggressive or advanced phase, and accelerated and blastic phase. The transition between phases may take years (on the average, 4 to 6 years from the stable phase to aggressive phase).
Avatar f tn Average survival rates are generalizations, not applicable to a particular patient. The prognosis is relatively good. Newer techniques are being tried, including imatinib and stem cell transplantation. All the best, and God Bless!
Avatar f tn TY for the reply. Yes I was told and am thinking that its parasitc or allergy. I went to aruba in June but that wouldn't have an affect on me now, would it?
Avatar f tn hi! The only way to truly test your fertility is to see a fertility specialist. Unfortunately most insurance companies do not pay for these services (what a crock, right?), but you can always buy an ovulation calculator to figure out your cycle. Personally, I watch my cycle every month and can tell when I am ovulating by discharge consistency, etc, but this does not guarantee fertility. Does that make sense?
Avatar f tn And, more importantly for those trying to conceive, if you watch fertility signs carefully over a few months, you can figure out when you ovulate as it happens. It's worth doing some homework if you really want to get pregnant and/or are getting discouraged if it's not happening. I plug Toni Weschler's book Taking Charge of Your Fertility all the time ---pick it up if you want to learn more.
Avatar f tn It is really very important that you be evaluated by a fellowship trained reproductive endocrinologist. Any OB/GYN can hand a fertility specialist shingle but most are not equipped to do the basic evaluation for fertility problems. Age is a factor - if in your late 30's be sure to have your AMH tested. Here are a couple of articles to read: http://inciid.org/infertility-basics-article (Infertility basics) http://inciid.org/basic-testing http://inciid.
Avatar f tn my mom said that after u have ur first baby ur body starts getting used to it and its more easier to get pregnant...
Avatar f tn Have you had any fertility testing done? If youve been trying for more than 1 year without luck then you should look into a sperm test first (its easier than female testing) and if that comes back ok then go get yourself tested.
Avatar n tn can unequal testicles cause infertility?
325477 tn?1250551309 My problem is that I don’t O on Clomid (2 rounds) and my Fertility Specialist doctor (don’t know how else to call him) says that he wants me to do Metformin for 3 weeks (each week double doze) and then if I don’t O, then we will move to injectibles and probably IUI. You were able to O on your own…I actually thought that with PCOS you don’t O on your own, but I guess I was wrong. I am under 30 but I want to have a baby SO MUCH that I can’t wait any longer so I am very proactive myself.
Avatar f tn It really depends on your infertility cause as to whether or not it will do any good. I'm not familiar with pct. Are you sure those were the letters? Have you been through several tests already? Is is maybe a post coital test? If you haven't had other tests run, it's unlikely that is what it is. But, is possible.
Avatar n tn I am infact trying to get pregnant, I am having a male factor fertility problem but my hubby still ants to ry the natural way, he's on some meds so its essential that we track my ovulation dates. Are these ovulation kits available over the counter, somehow even after all the advice I gotten, no one has ever told me about ovulation kits...........any more infor will be appreaciated!!
2096004 tn?1367025958 You make want to also begin checking your cervical fluid because that correlates with fertility. Begin tracking this info and know when you ovulate and have sex around that time. I hope this helps. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I just checked my ovulation and fertility chart abd according to it , i am from 3-16 to 3-21. My fiance and i had unprotected sex twice once yesterday 3-16 and today 3-17. Am i most likely going to be pregnant?
