Imatinib and pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Imatinib and pregnancy

gleevec

Avatar f tn Eithne01, The treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) has changed significantly since the late 1990s, with the development and subsequent approval by the Food and Drug Administration of imatinib (in 2001), the first of a class of medications called tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which target the specific abnormality that causes CML. Before that time, patients were treated with other therapy, including interferon and bone marrow transplant, and had very poor outcomes.
Avatar n tn It is possible that the white blood cell count would normalize after 2 weeks of taking Imatinib (Gleevec). Most responses to Imatinib are rapid since it targets the molecular pathogenetic event in CML. You may seek a second opinion if that will give you a peace of mind. Good luck.
Avatar n tn My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
1004138 tn?1316251113 No there is no herbal treatment for CML!!! Were you diagnosed with CML, and if so are you seeing a specialist and what treatment are you on.? I am being treated for CML, and was told not to even drink herbal teas well on my medication. Share some more information so I can help you. I have had CML for 13 years.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with CML since Novmber of 2007. I am still a little confused about some things. and i guess when my WBC's got back to 4.5 I was excited and thought I was all good- In the clear huh... Well in less than a month my WBC's dropped back down to 1.8 and they say that I am good as long as I don't go past 1.5. Ok fine. I don't go back for another month and I already feel like **** and have had pneumonia 2x in the past month.
Avatar f tn Average survival rates are generalizations, not applicable to a particular patient. The prognosis is relatively good. Newer techniques are being tried, including imatinib and stem cell transplantation. All the best, and God Bless!
Avatar n tn My 24 year cousin is my best friend and was just diagnosed with CML and her doctors are very optimistic, but she has so many qiestions she is scared to ask. They are going to put her on the "Miracle Pill" will she lose her hair? Will is hurt her chances of have children? As optimistic as the doctors are, is there any chance that this is a fatal condition? We are scared should we be?
Avatar f tn TY for the reply. Yes I was told and am thinking that its parasitc or allergy. I went to aruba in June but that wouldn't have an affect on me now, would it?
1530342 tn?1405016490 While the webite is not working as good as it should, its gonna be fixed and in the interim you can bypass the website and apply by phone etc. He said the wait and the price is so worth the aggravation..... Im in! The traditional way was long application forms, pages and pages of medical history, and instead of contacting individual insurances one by one, this is all in one place with one single phone number you can call for help, so in the meantime they will help us sign up.
Avatar f tn Therapy with corticosteroids is used for the treatment of most and additional therapy is available and dependent upon the type of HS. Newer medicines such as imatinib and mepolizumab are said to be promising. So, should your son have HS, there is reason to be optimistic regarding a positive response to currently available therapy. You should request, of his doctor, an additional explanation for the tentative diagnosis of pre-hypertension. Good luck.
20922415 tn?1661860103 If pregnancy occurs, progesterone is produced in the placenta, and levels remain elevated throughout the pregnancy. The combination of high estrogen and progesterone levels suppresses further ovulation during pregnancy. Progesterone also encourages the growth of milk-producing glands in the breast during pregnancy. High progesterone levels are believed to be partly responsible for symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), such as breast tenderness, feeling bloated, and mood swings.
Avatar f tn Hello, Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am a 29-year-old female recently diagnosed with Addison's Disease, hypothyroidism, pancreatitis, possible hypoparathyroidism and ovarian failure, and allergies to over 40 foods. I have not been tested for environmental allergies yet. My doctors believe there is a vascular component underlying all of these endocrine problems, and have collectively suggested Churg-Strauss vasculitis.
962875 tn?1314210036 Watch Out For Interactions with Tamoxifen (Nolvadex) Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and tamoxifen (NOLVADEX ) is used commonly in the treatment and sometimes in the prevention of this disease. In 2007, 1.7 million prescriptions were filled for tamoxifen. However, recent evidence suggests that certain other drugs can reduce the anti-cancer effects of tamoxifen, potentially increasing cancer recurrence and reducing survival.
Avatar f tn did you tell your doctor you're late?
Avatar n tn Of these, Free T3 is the most important because Free T3 largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions. (note that Free T3 and T4 are not the same as Total T3 and T4). From just looking at your lab results in light of my experience, I see nothing there to be alarmed about. Your Free T3 is above the midpoint of its range and Free T4 is also within range, though it is in the lower quarter of the range.
2176548 tn?1340677817 However this does not happen in early pregnancy. Also pregnancy cannot be diagnosed based on symptoms only. If periods are missed then a pregnancy test can be taken. Serum HCG levels and an ultrasound scan will help confirmation of pregnancy. Hope this helps.
2006473 tn?1422033301 I learned I had PCOS at a early age, I was 16 (currently 31 yrs old) I had started my periods when I was 11 and then by the age of 16 I had nothing! was put on the pill to regulate but since I wasn't sexually active at the time I forgot to take them all the time. Got back on the pill at 18, went off the pill at 26 (2006). Continued to have a period that first yr off the pill. Then 3 times a year, and then nothing from 2008 - 2009.
Avatar f tn I'm 7 weeks pregnant and contracted a uterus infection and my doctor prescribed me two cycles of 1000mg of azithromycin and I'd love a second opinion!
Avatar f tn I read online that your cervix is very sensitive during pregnancy and its possible my bf irritated, or (to be blunt) went too deep and made me bleed. Like I said, there was no pain or cramps or anything of that nature. I didnt even know I was bleeding. It wasnt alot, but it wasnt a little. Has anybody else had this problem, should I be worried?
Avatar f tn If you do get pregnant you need to test immeidately and probably increase meds about 20%. Testing during pregnancy is montly, and meds may need to be increased quite a bit.
2050045 tn?1343153733 I forgot to say that my best friend was 3 weeks ahead of me in her pregnancy- she posted the moment she knew around 4 weeks. At 9 weeks she found out there was no heart beat, and had to have a D & C. She was devastated, and even now people post on fb 'how's the pregnancy going?' cuz they dot know she lost the baby... I don't want to have to explain 100x that I lost it if it happens...
1943295 tn?1388239324 My main concern I guess is handling the fish and bait (I love using worms and minnows) was safe or not? I always have sani wipes in the tackel box to keep the bacteria at a minimum!
Avatar f tn Congrats on your pregnancy and tapering down on the pills. When you see your OB make sure you tell them everything you have done. They will be able to set your mind at ease. You quit early in your pregnancy and that is a good thing. As long as you stay off the drugs your baby wont be born with wd's. Have you thought about talking to someone about this? There is always a reason why we use.
