Hysterectomy for uterine adhesions

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for uterine adhesions

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn Previous surgeries include hysterectomy and abdominal radiation for uterine cancer 40+ years ago, gallbladder surgery 30+ years ago and colon resection for cancer 10 years ago.
Avatar n tn If you have a history of abdominal or pelvic surgery, then you must explore the possibility of adhesions. “Although most abdominal adhesions go unnoticed, the most common symptom is chronic abdominal or pelvic pain.” “No tests are available to diagnose adhesions, and adhesions cannot be seen through imaging techniques such as x rays or ultrasound. Most adhesions are found during exploratory surgery.
Avatar n tn However absence of scar tissue does not mean that there are no adhesions. However these adhesions recur and cutting the adhesions can cause more adhesions to form. Hence a judicious decision is required regarding the approach to be taken. Certain herbs and mucolytic enzymes have been tried with variable success rates for this. Do discuss with your doctor. Take care!
1100598 tn?1413127426 He said that a full hysterectomy is not as necessary. But down the road, there is a chance of getting uterine or cervical cancer. I don't really want to have either surgery, but I refuse to go through chemo again. So now I don't know which surgery to have. The full hysterectomy or have just the tubes and ovaries removed? I have done some research and there are schools of thought leaning in both directions.
483733 tn?1326798446 I will be 46 in 2 months and have a 16 cm ovarian cyst and a 7 cm uterine fibroid for which I will be having surgery (open vertical cut) in the coming weeks. Because I have had extensive intestinal surgery before my gyn is having a general surgeon involved in case of problems with adhesions or my colon. He was quite leary about operating but doesn't have a choice. I have asked him to remove everything for a couple of reasons.
Avatar m tn I had a full abdo hysterectomy 1 yr ago .
Avatar f tn probably the nurse said to see the uterine lining... no i have not had any periods since the adhesions were removed.
Avatar f tn this should not be for a woman my age. the gyn stated he dosent want to do a hysterectomy on me due to lots and lots of adhesions i have from alot of surgeries i had in the past. this is the very last resort. have you spoken your concerns to your gyn. the endometrial biopsies were normal for me but extremely painful. the last one they didn't get enough tissue so now i just had the d and c and am awaiting results of this. i wish you well.
Avatar f tn I may too have hysterectomy yet but any pelvic surgery (if you are prone to adhesions) can cause further adhesions. If your GP is not understanding your pain and offering suitable pain relief id switch GP for second opinion and even surgeon as I did.
Avatar f tn There were no other adhesions except for the small loop bowel adhesions between the left uterosacral ligament in the sigmoid. Appendix was normal. Liver was normal. We initially started with lysing the left ovarian ahesions with sharp cautery, and the ovary was then mobilized anteriorly, and we scored the antimesenteric border of the ovary. The cyst was then shelled out under sharp and blunt dissection. The cyst was removed through the 10mm port. The base appeared to ooze at the hilum...
1087834 tn?1256647396 i agree with louise 20 dont just assume you need to have a hysterectomy! My gyno told me this was best for me but turned out probably could of had just lysis of adhesions that could have caused all of my problems because colon was adhesed to uterus which probably was causing my heavy bleeding and heaviness feeling with cramping, and constant constipation, but didnt have a preop laparascopy which would have shown that.
Avatar n tn Do adhesions from a Hysterectomy get worse or cause future complications if not surgically corrected or is it just to help the pain? Should this be performed by a surgeon or the GYN doctor who performed the Hysterectomy? Thank you!
Avatar f tn Pelvic and/or vaginal pain can be due to UTIs, vulvovaginitis, labial adhesions and foreign body in vagina like a toilet paper etc, STD, PID or pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine or extra uterine endometriosis, kidney stones and vaginal prolapse.
Avatar f tn movie rentals whatever you like for quiet time....ask for and accept help your gonna need it....wear loss clothing...be prepared for very serious pain your pain meds will handle it .....take them....the vast majority of women feel completley physically healed by 6 weeks....take it very easy for 1st intercourse after 6 weeks and doctors ok.....
Avatar f tn Could the mass possibly be an ovarian remnant with a cyst? I don't know why it shows on u/s but not CT... very odd. Your pelvic pain could be recurring endometriosis and not adhesions. Plus surgery (even if it's to remove adhesions) will cause more adhesions... a catch-22. And it's difficult to remove all endo especially by surgeons who are not true endometriosis excision specialists.
Avatar n tn The treatment is is more surgery - hopefully laparscopic - but more surgery can lead to more adhesions, which puts you in a vicious circle of surgeries. Bowel adhesions are common after hysterectomy, and can cause terrible digestive problems by slowing transit time to the point of causing reflux, regurgitation or even a full bowel obstruction.
Avatar n tn I had a complete hysterectomy Oct 2012. I still have sooo much gas. It is not painful but why is this still happening? And it really embarrassing cause it is quite explosive and uncontrollable.
Avatar n tn This technique seems to break up the adhesions and it worked for me. I figured that if it worked for adhesions that formed naturally in our body, it should work for surgical adhesions. It did! It is truly amazing. I noticed a HUGE difference immediately. When I sat up after the fist time I did this (about a 15 min. session) I could feel a "FLOOD" or a Rush of blood or something! going to that area.
Avatar m tn I have had multiple surgeries for lysis of adhesions due to hysterectomy, c-sections, ovarian cyst removal, etc. I have had a bowel resection due to the adhesions on the small intestine. I am in constant, severe pain but I am told by the doctors around here that there is nothing to be done, because any additional surgery to remove adhesions would only create more adhesions plus it is too dangerous for them to even attempt since everything is stuck together.
Avatar n tn Because of this, he was unable to move my uterus to look around for endo. The doctor had suggested a hysterectomy (but leaving my ovaries). My question is has anyone had this done and has it alleviated their pain? I've been having IBS symptoms and excrusiating cramping and abdominal pains (like when you have a bad bout of gas) but it's constant! They have done a colonoscopy to rule out intestinal problems along with a CT and MRI, all came back fine.
2074741 tn?1331880740 A full hysterectomy includes ovaries. If they are removed you will likely have to have hormonal treatment and may go into early menopause. I do think it's prudent to get your uterus removed, especially if you have no desire to try for children later on and the risk of having them grow back is high. This is only a partial hysterectomy though. As far as if you should get a full one- I have heard there is some connection between ovarian cancer and uterine cancer.
1528695 tn?1360582320 My unusually shaped gestational sac (looked like i have two sacs developing) is now attributed to a uterine adhesion. My doctor said the adhesion is large and the concern now is if the baby were to put an appendage (or itself) into the adhesion it could cause growth retardation and even fetal demise. Does anyone have a history of uterine adhesions (scars)? Has anyone had a successful pregnancy despite the adhesion?
Avatar n tn Are they saying if it's endometrosis or have you had a dnc or iud that could have caused asherman's syndrome (unteruterine adhesions)? I guess what I'm asking for is a little more backround information. I have asherman's and although mine is in the upper part of the uterus *fundus area* where the embryo implants... I do have a little of insight to this if you have any questions.
1809377 tn?1316520328 Hi Mary, Yes, that is what I was asking. Thank you for responding, I have read so many posts and they are all so confusing. Some talk about losing sexual pleasure if the cervix is removed and I got concerned. My GYN and I have agreed to keep my ovaries as long as they are not diseased, I am only 34 years old and in both sides of my family I have a history of heart disease & osteoporosis. Therefore, there is no reason to take greater risks & getting my ovaries removed.

I healed well and I felt fine after. The bloating and swelling went away quickly, but now Im having sharp pains where my left overy use to be. and in the past few mths I have had 2 kidney infections.
