Its the worst its ever been and I am miserable. I was on Azathioprine, Canasa, and a taper of Prednisone with no relief. Just started Humira yesterday. Four shots to the stomach....ouch! Today along with my flare symptoms (lots of bleeding, constipation, bloating, abdominal pain, fatigue, dry mouth, occasional nausea) I have the chills with a very low grade fever and my fatigue is worse than normal. Is this normal after starting Humira? What do others do to manage all of these symptoms?
I had appt with my GI doc started Humira today. (As I said I really love this guy!!!) I showed him the sores and he in turn called a dermatologist to see me RIGHT AWAY (because I live 60 miles away and I was there my GI doc did not want me to go home and come right back). The Derm saw it and did say that there was no "wash" that could help me. It is from the Crohn's. He put me on Monodox Again Thank you for answering my post.
statistically 1 out of every 2-3 of us has hsv1 and 1 out of every 4-5 has hsv2 - a lot of folks who take humira, are already going to have herpes whether they know it or not! Of course you also can contract herpes simplex, either orally or genitally, while taking humira too.
It also can cause shingles to occur - you'd have to have had chicken pox in the past before starting humira in order to have a shingles reactivation.

I was put on Remicade last year and my body became resistant to it. I started breaking out in rashes and my mouth would blister, it's a lot better than it sounds, I swear.
But I started Humira in December. For the first month and I half I was moody and tired all the time. I felt so hungry and I ended up gaining about 60lbs, apparently most of it was water from the prednisone. Everything has precautions, but I think if you're doctor is willing to try it, it's worth it.
He seemed very afraid of me and basically said it was Herpes. He did check my mouth and no sores and said that my mouth looked good other than I had a tonsil stone. I left paranoid and went home remembering I had touched the irritated skin on my genitals. I returned to my PCP who I asked to swab the oozing sore. He said he didnt recommend that but the igg/igm blood test. It came back positive for for hsv1 IGG out of range 4.0. Hsv2 IGG came back < 0.2. Hsv1 IGM weak positive.
) The Humira seems to be preventing the stomach problems but I have been getting terrible sores in my mouth, which makes it difficult to eat, brush my teeth, etc. Crohn's can affect everything from the rectum to the mouth, but not everybody is affected the same way. It's an autoimmune disease, like diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.

13 years ago I was diagnosed with genital herpes which I contracted from my now ex. I married 8 years ago to a good man with a bad case of Psoriasis. About 6 months ago he was diagnosed with Psoriatic arthritis after having his hands and body start crippling his abailities in daily living, and began taking Humira as treatment. Recently he has decided that we can no longer be intimate and we need to separate.
There are enough other sites and posts of the same complaint and also in the first 6 months on Humira. It was about my 3rd injection I think when I started having tooth pain in my upper front teeth. Within a couple of days, my bottom front teeth stated hurting. I skipped a week of Humira under Dr advice incase I was fighting a sinus infection. Symptoms got better. Then I started back on my Humira last night and my teeth are killing me again.
Also the area below my gums, the crevice between the gum and cheek, in the 4 areas below my molars the skin is very irritated with sores and the skin over top of the sores is white and peels away. I also have sores on the side of my tongue, where it attaches to the back of my throat is red, irritated and white skin forms over it, but it peels away easily (like the crevices).
My throat neck and mouth was very sore. The back of my throat was very red and I could feel the lymphadenopathy on the right side of my neck. The area where my gum hurts looked like a sore was forming right around there. Monday I went to the doctor and I was negative for strep but my doctor still treated me for it. I've been on a heavy dose of penicillin for days now and no change. It seems like the sores have spread and their on the roof my mouth, the lower and upper part of my gums.
I went to my dentist 4 days ago and he did a mouth exam and looked at my mouth neck jaw under my tongue and the roof of my mouth and when he was done said mouth sores, canker sores but why are they so slow healing I have used salt water and anything you can think of. PS help what should I do I have also been to two doctors and they said the same thing.
What the doctor did was take this long match stick looking thing that was either sulfur or silver nitrate and touch it to the main soar on the tip of my tongue and it burned like crazy. Then he prescribed me some medicine that completely numbed my mouth and they eventually went away. So it seems right that stress could also cause it. It was terrible pain tho and I hope you feel better soon!
Ribavirin can cause mouth sores and dehydration, which can make your mouth feel dry and have a bad taste.
Ribavirin can cause you to have an allergic reaction that might show up as a rash on your skin. It can also show up as an irritation in your mouth and throat. If you normally get mouth ulcers, they may get worse while you are on treatment.
Quick Tips:
Eat soft or pureed foods. Baby foods or toddler foods may be good substitutes.
Drink nectars instead of juices.
I also take Seraquel. Recently I have been having a terrible problem with sores in my mouth and inside my ears itch. I have never had mouth sores before but recently I can't get rid of them. They get better and worse but never leave entirely. Also my throat has a chronic mild sore feeling. The throat problem is nothing really bad but its there and never changes for the better or worse.
I'm into week 20 of 24 week interferon program and starting to get soreness and rash symptoms on rear gums and lower portion of my mouth. Can't figure it out. Gotta finish the program!!! So far so good!! Virus free at 7 weeks and still virus free. Yahoo!!!! Any answers?
