Has your gall bladder or liver enzymes been checked out? Perhaps using both medications for gastroparesis is behind the difficulty? Have you done a barium swallow test?

Did something prompt these tests? Did you have liver enzymes out of range or some type of risk factor recently? A lot of us found out by "accident".

I have been treated for rheumatoid arthritis with Humira for 7 months including a combination of Humira and methotrexate for the past 2 months. I also take 5mg of prednisone, and 6 Azulfadine tablets each day. I was taking Humira once every fourteen days and I am on 15mg of methotrexate a week. About a month ago, I started experiencing numbness in my toes and feet. I mentioned it to my rheumatologist but she wasn't concerned and simply told me it wasn't rheumatoid arthritis.

statistically 1 out of every 2-3 of us has hsv1 and 1 out of every 4-5 has hsv2 - a lot of folks who take humira, are already going to have herpes whether they know it or not! Of course you also can contract herpes simplex, either orally or genitally, while taking humira too. It also can cause shingles to occur - you'd have to have had chicken pox in the past before starting humira in order to have a shingles reactivation.

Interestingly though, I was diagnosed with pancreatic insufficiency (not diabetes) last September when a CT scan showed an abnormality on the tail of my pancreas. I was prescribed Creon enzymes to take with each meal (and snacks) and was advised I will need them forever. I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs (dx when I was 25 yrs) and my doctors say the pancreatic insufficiency is a rare complication of Crohn's. Additionally my late mother was dx with type 2 diabetes when she was 59 yrs old.

But it must be emphasized that higher-than-normal levels of these liver enzymes should not be automatically equated with liver disease. They may mean liver problems or they may not. The interpretation of elevated AST and ALT levels depends upon the whole clinical picture and so it is best done by doctors experienced in evaluating liver disease. The precise levels of these enzymes do not correlate well with the extent of liver damage or the prognosis (outlook).

Since I had elevated liver enzymes, my doctor stop giving me PTU and I had a total thyroidectomy.Liver enzymes went to normal immediately after stopping PTU. I am OK now All the best to you.

I went for my regular physical with my regular doctor and my liver enzymes were up; ast 60 alt 40 alkaline phosphate 128, these wer high last year as well. My doctor says my liver enzymes were always kind of high, even before being diagnosed with sarcoid. Now my doc wants me on synthroid for this and my triglycerides went up to 240? Is the sarcoid still in my body, perhaps in my liver, causing the high enzymes, low thyroid, etc... Thank you.

I had some minor surgery about 3 weeeks ago and tool Lortab with acetominophen for pain - that can raise liver enzymes. But now I am referred to a gastroenterologist...and I will go because...I might as well see what he has to share about autoimmuine diseases....because I have hashis.

night last 4 mths also Endep 10mg 2 before bed to help restlessness ....still in pain ....so now about to start Humira but I cannot afford to gain weight,, and the forum makes me afraid to take.......as met have a few years ago ...any one still on Humira injection every fnight?.

So, my doctor just got the results of my blood tests, and apparently I have underactive thyroid, and three times the normal liver enzymes. I couldn't ask him a lot of questions and it will take a few days before I can go and see him, but I have a lot of questions that just won't stop bugging me. For instance, one of the symptoms that bothers me the most is that I keep having hot flashes a lot. But shouldn't it be the opposite with hypothyroidism?

Hi again, i just wanted to let you know that before I joined this Forum I had left a message on the FDA's question line. They had not gotten back to me so I thought I'd never hear back. Today, however, I did hear back from them. I asked them about whether the meds. and supplements that I've been taking, and especially Verapamil, Zantac and Prilosec OTC could possibly cause an elevation in liver enzymes.

Since then I have had several blood tests, Ultra sound, liver biopsy...and no answers. My ultra sound was negative. I have inflammation and cirrhosis of the liver, but nothing predominant...The GI doc said that the toxin levels in my liver were very high and he thinks that is why I am having trouble with my liver. Today they have gone down to ALT- 626 and AST-415. I have been experiencing new symptoms since the levels have dropped. I am now getting pain in my liver, where I was not before.

Is this a pattern in your serum data as well, with fluctuations between normal and elevated. What was the original reason for the ERCP and MRI if the enzymes were ok, pain/jaundice? I assume when you say they are doing another MRI that they will also be doing a MRCP along with it? Sometimes seeing the bile duct system in it's undisturbed (not artificially extended/inflated) state is the key in determining what's wrong.

No, those are antihistamines and won't damage the liver. There are a couple of websites that show drug label info, like rxlist.com and drugs.com. I comb through those if I am considering using something new, looking for any liver side effects of drugs. There are 2 liver enzymes, AST and ALT. ALT is made in the liver and it's leakage into the bloodstream indicates cell damage to the liver. AST, however, can also come from damaged muscle and heart.

Look for a cause for them being high. One of the 2 enzymes is also made (and released from) muscle, so may not mean liver problem but if both are elevated, there's probably something going on. Fatty liver is a liver disease all on its own and may be the reason for the elevated enzymes. Also google all of the medications and over the counter drugs that you take. You will be surprised at how the most common things can cause liver damage.

which is tough on the liver...my enzymes were ok and i am very glad.there r other factors that come into play such as genetics, age, alcohol consumption etc....as a rule they do not rise just because u used recently..but it is possible...i would wait a few weeks and have them checked again..just to be on he safe side..
