humalog

Avatar n tn my daughter uses regular insulin since 9 years old now she is 20 and was put on Humalog 25 mix pen and the thing about the aggresive behavoir is true. last week we had to take her to a hospital with a descompensation almost commatose. I check another forum and it appears the pen humalog works well for adults over 30, 40 50 etc or so but by reading your case I believe it is not suitable for kids with diabetes type I.
Avatar n tn Depends on how you use your insullin. My doctor gave me an insulin to carbohydrate ratio to use. I use 1 unit of insulin to every 12 grams of carbs I eat. The less carbs I eat, the less insulin I use. I have a very physical job for four hours a day and I don't even need my Humalog when I eat lunch. My pen generally lasts me the whole month. My Humalog is only good for 28 - 30 days.
Avatar n tn tomorrow and I am looking for some input on this pen. I have never heard that the pen is innacurate but did read tonight that the Humalog pen must be held to the skin for a count of five---that could be ugly. We can't use the Lilly pen anyway because we need one with half units. I guess we would have to change to Novolog to use their pen. Any pen users with children have input???
Avatar n tn You just print out a coupon good for a free Huma Pen Luxora HD or the newer Huma Pen Memoir this is the one that remembers your dose and the time you took it). You will need a prescription from your doctor to use the coupon at the Pharmacy though! Hope someone can use it.
Avatar n tn I have been a diabetic 40 years, and started on Lantis about a year ago, replacing NPH for my basil insulin (I also take Humalog with a pen). I injected Lantis with a syringe, and as I never had a problem with NPH when it sometimes entered a vessel, I did not draw back before injecting. The result, when I hit a vessel, was a drop in blood suger from 180 to 30 in 1/2 hour! I consumed about 48 ounces of orange juces and 2 bars of chocolate in 15 minutes just to stay conscious!
943601 tn?1245484695 I have been controlling it with a sliding scale using Humalog Quick Pen. How fast does the ill-reversable damage set in? My medicine has been change from enailapril to coreg. Biopsity shows nothing.
Avatar m tn I saw a recent thread about Lantis in a pen and I would like to ask if anyone else shares my concern about this or the overall safty of Lantis. I have been a diabetic 40 years (Type 1), and started on Lantis about a year ago, replacing NPH for my basal insulin (I also take Humalog with a pen). I injected Lantis with a syringe, and as I never had a problem with NPH when it sometimes entered a vessel, I did not draw back before injecting.
Avatar n tn I use Lantus cartridges in a Humalog pen. And it works perfectly. For me, a major benefit of switching from NPH to Lantus has been the reduced variability in action. And delivery via the Humalog pen appears to be very consistent.
Avatar n tn I get my supplies from the Military Hospital because I am a retired service member and they do not have the lantus solostar flex pen but they do have the levimer flex pen. I also noticed with Lantus I get hungary allot but I do not give into the temptation of eating and I only eat twice a day but a heck of lot less then I had in the past. Will levemiere insulin get rid of that hungar pain and can I just use it like I use the lantus by taking 36 Units at night???.
Avatar f tn Now all of a sudden we are having to pay for needles and my sons insulin doubled in price. The insurance company and the pharmacy say its because of the wording of the dosage. His dosage on his lantus only went up 4 units a day. I get the same exact box as I always did but now its costing me double. His Humalog also went up $10.00 for no reason anyone can think of. Instead of paying $95.00 like I thought it ended up costing $255.00.
1116801 tn?1292254540 common by all accounts , i dont use redipen but the pre filled syrynges are very cheap too, often not properly filed and honed, meaning they are a bit jagged sometimes
Avatar f tn Anyone out there had to go on insulin in pregnancy? This is my first baby since getting diabetes 4 yrs ago but scared of needles. Had miscarriage in feb just praying this don't happen again.
Avatar n tn It seems to peter out sort of slowly sometime in that time frame, leaving very little Lantus working to help with his dinner-time quick-acting insulin. So it may take more insulin in the evenings than at other mealtimes to cover the same amount of carbs. Some of us prefer to split the Lantus dose, taking some in the morning and some in the evening to equal the complete dose. That way, only half is petering out after 20 hours, and the sugar levels stay more even throughout the day.
Avatar n tn t take my Novalog fast-acting insulin pen with me. However, I inject myself shortly after the meal, when I get back to the office. The max. amount of time I inject AFTER a meal is about 30 minutes. Is this a bad idea or should I assume that it's better to be late than never? I'm a 26 year old Type-1 diabetic by the way.
Avatar n tn My 11 yr old son is on Lantis and Humalog. He takes 33 units of Lantis at 9:00 pm. At noon today I made the mistake of giving him 2 units of Lantis instead of Humalog. Is he going to be OK? What can I do for him now?
Avatar n tn Also ask your endocronologist about taking your humalog before meals, I am not sure if you meant that or if you do just take it before bed time. And are you eating a snack when you take humolog before bed? Humalog is a quick acting inulin, usually taken before meals.
Avatar n tn what should I do if I give myself 25 units of regular humalog insulin at night when it should have been 25 units of lantus? this happened last night at 10:00 and at 10:30 I drank a lot of juice with sugar loaded in it, and about 8 oz. of peanut butter that I figured would be broken down later to aid me if this over abundance of insulin was to overcome me. I waited until 11:30 and was exhausted and fell asleep. I was awoken at 1:30 A.M. in a seizure, my body convulsing.
Avatar n tn It was only after I handed them back when I realized that the same pen was used by the two guys before me, who had used the pen only a minute or so before it was handed to me. This has worried me in case any of their blood got onto the pen and then made contact with my pin prick wound.
Avatar n tn I am worried because I stuck myself with a ball point pen it didn't really bleed but left a little red mark where I got stuck. I am afraid because a person who I KNOW has hiv (he has told me) also was using one of the pen at work to punch holes in bags were were making (working at valentines shop) and stuck himself as well.. I don't know if it was the same pen but if it were does anybody think I could be at risk..
Avatar f tn Thats not true I never went under 145 or past 160 but since the lantus and humalog pen I have gained 22 lbs. I eat right, have my green shake, work out, exercise daily. Drink plenty of water. Eat very small healthy meals. I keep gaining weight. Im on a sliding scale because I now have fibrosis of the liver due to metformin And ibuprofen. Im going to ask to just stsy on lantus but levemere is so much better.
Avatar f tn Most facilities use a seperate pen per patent, but some DO use the same pen, and change the needles, that's not really that unheard of. This is definitely not an HIV risk, and would be a VERRRRY low risk for anything else. Minute. With the nature of how the pen works, it's not like anything gets drawn INTO the pen that could cause a risk that way.
233382 tn?1193658141 Maybe considering a pump or considering the 24-hour Lantus and a quick-acting insulin like humalog or novalog are worth discussing with his doctor. His a1c level is almost where the goal level is set, so this is encouraging. Many diabetics nowadays are able to keep the a1c comfortably around 6 or sometimes even in the 5's, so there is room for improvement.
645800 tn?1466860955 But the VA has still not shipped the needles for the pen. Shipments from the VA in Nashville only take a day to get to my home once they are shipped. They notified the USPS yesterday that they were going to ship the needles from Nashville. So just how messed up is the VA? 1. they could have actually shipped the needles yesterday. 2. they could have waited on having the pens shipped until the day they actually shipped the needles. 3.
1273125 tn?1365077526 I have tried other medications such as Actos and Januvia but they did not make that big a difference. I tried the Byetta as well with the same results. So I am not afraid of needles or injections. My question would be which insulin pens would be my best choice? I think a long acting such as Lantus and I might need a rapid acting one for meals? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am going to see the nurse practioner today in my doctor's office.
Avatar n tn His physical activity during the 2 hour periods after taking Humalog are about the same. The dosage criteria for Humalog are about the same (He takes one unit of Humalog for each 10 carbohydrate grams in the morning and one unit of Humalog for each 12 carbohydrate grams at dinner). The only other difference is that he takes NPH at the same time as Humalog in the am and does not take NPH at the dinner meal.
