How mesalamine works

Common Questions and Answers about How mesalamine works

asacol

Avatar f tn 4g of mesalamine and 40mg of prednisone. Will see how this one works. This has been the 3rd night on this dosage. I feel like this dr are not caught up on their readings. There are so many studies that say that higher dosage of mesalamine works better on flare ups. The fever is most than likely to be because of the inflammation. So I think when they would figure that out and put this people on the right dosage the "miracle" will happen.
Avatar f tn What other symptoms are present? Mesalamine or Canasa suppositories works by preventing the production of substances that cause the inflammation of the colon. The usual side effects include diarrhea; dizziness; gas; hair loss; headache; mild stomach discomfort or pain; and nausea. The sour taste could be indirectly related especially if you have other gastrointestinal issues like acid peptic disease or gerd.

Avatar f tn My recent result of biopsy after the colonoscopy indicates epithelial dysplasia. My doctor just advice me to continue taking the mesalamine (Asacol) Do i need an another urgent medication/treatment for dysplasia? What should be my next move?
Avatar m tn I have read about a study in which Boswellia was used in conjunction with Mesalamine. My gastroenterologist knows notheing about herbs, but is open to information that I can give her. What is available? Are there any interactions with boswellia and mesalamine that I should be cautious about? Are there any precastions about its use?
Avatar n tn There have been a few cases of liver failure possibly related to the use of mesalamine (the active ingredient in Asacol HD), but I haven't read anything about fatty liver as a side effect. A fatty liver, it takes between 6 months and 2 years to fully reverse. Dr Sandra Cabot's article "Fatty Liver - What Is Fatty Liver And How To Reverse It?
Avatar n tn Hi there, I was diagnosed with sigmoidal colitis in 2005, but I reckon that it went unchecked for about 4 years prior to that. I was initially treated with mesalamine (Asacol) but it had no effect. My GI guy then hit me with prednisone and that knocked it down. I have been on Asacol in a prophylactic capacity since (800mg tid). Does it keep me in remission. Maybe, but maybe it is the tremendous quantities of fentanyl, diacetylmorphine and morphine I abused as well for all I know :P.
569676 tn?1315641158 Below is an article explaining how and why suboxone works. This was written by Dr. Richard Gracer and is very well written in understandable terms. How Buprenorphine Works Buprenorphine (Subutex) is an FDA approved drug that is used to treat opiate (narcotic) dependence and prevent its relapse, to decrease the withdrawal symptoms when getting off opiates and in some specific circumstances to treat chronic pain.
Avatar f tn Hi Nicky. I'm sorry about your recent U.C. diagnosis. According to the mfg: "The dosage of Mesalamine 500 mg suppositories (Generic Canasa) is one rectal suppository once daily at bedtime. The suppository should remain inserted for one to three hours or longer, if possible. The normal course of therapy is from three to six weeks depending on symptoms and sigmoidoscopic findings". So the 30 day supply falls within the recommended duration.
Avatar f tn So what exactly is nonspecific colitis? How is it treated? Can it cause arthritis pain in back, wrists, knees, ankles, and fingers?
Avatar m tn I am shocked to find that Rowasa has complete monopoly over this industry. How can they get away with this. This is a clear criminal act. How come FDA is not allowing the safe to use Mesalazine Enema, which has been used for years in Europe and Canada? I am not certain how I can spread the word so that all UC patients who are suffering can get benefited. Please spread the word and let CCFA know that this drug needs to be made available in US.
Avatar f tn Last November I had a total colectomy with an ileoanal pull through for ulcerative colitis. The pouch was created during the first surgery but I had a colostomy for a few months while it all healed. In February then I had the colostomy reversed. Since then, I have had multiple complications. At first there was a great deal of pain with bowel movements. That has finally subsided however, I currently have 12 -20 bowel movements a day with several occuring at night.
Avatar m tn She again had colonoscopy and histological examination inferred that it was ulcer. She is being treated with Mesalamine and now she is well. Please check with your doctor.
Avatar f tn Honestly, how do YOU react to HER when she's bad? Do you react loudly, wave your arms around, yell, get mad? They learn their reactions from us, and I am NOT saying that you're a bad parent (so please don't think so..we've all been there!) but if you want her to listen calmly, respond calmly, and learn discipline, you need to evaluate how you approach her. Most kids have the odd tantrum. This is OK and natural.
Avatar n tn the mucus could be caused by several things like ulcerative colitis (UC), anal fissure, or a bowel obstruction but most common in IBS. depending on how long it has been going on a colonoscopy would be somthing to consider. try looking at this https://health.google.
