Common Questions and Answers about How does janumet work

janumet

Avatar n tn There's a post by Gus who asked the same question yesterday. Diabetes medicine Metformin helps to produce insulin in the gut to "help" lower your glucose levels. It doesn't perform miracles nor does it lower your glucose levels by itself. The key word is "help." Lifestyle change is required. This is done by controlling your glucose levels with proper nutrition, moderate exercise, and weight control. Read my posts in the threads from Darkestlight and Gus on this forum.
Avatar n tn My husband was recently diagnosed with type II diabetes. His doctor has prescibed janumet. In reading about the drug I've found info stating that "one should not consume excessive alcohol" and also "one should avoid alcohol". My husband drinks at least one glass of wine/beer a day with more on weekends. I'm confused as to what excesive means or if he is suppose to avoid alcohol totally. Any information would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn If you could tolerate 1g of met go back on that and add janumet . Met is a good drug, safe, makes your insulin work better, reduces liver dumping sugar. janumet not so much, janumet FOCES the pancreas to put out more insulin. If your pancreas is shot (BG of 20 would indicate that) then your pancreas probably cant put out more insulin.
Avatar n tn i used janumet for my sugar it make me gain weight but it lower my sugar why isnt suppose to make u loose weight
Avatar n tn They have put me on insulin, though, and it seems to help me more than the orals. How have you responded to the orals? I tried Janumet but it didn't help much- infact- it really messed up my sugar - like a rebound effect or something. Have you been tested for malnutrition issues? Or wasting diseases? Hope all goes well...
541196 tn?1293552936 My endocrinolgist ordered a MRI with Contrast on my brain for the possiblity of a prolactin secreeting pituitary tumor or something similar. I am type II diabetic and take Janumet. I think I remember reading in the side effects, warnings and uses pamphlet that there were some tests, proceedures and surgeries which you shouldn't have while on the medication. How long should I be off the medication before and after the MRI? Are there any other things I should consider before the test?
Avatar m tn reject it? I've not really heard of it rejecting it per se, but I know that with type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance it basically doesn't know how to uptake it properly... so insense I guess that's what it does. There are medications that can help your body absorb it better after meals...
Avatar f tn Hi, I recently went on glipizide after a very bad reaction to victoza. I was losing weight, but now the glipizide is keeping me at the same weight. Has anyone had the experience that is the same? and is there a lower does that anyone has still been able to lose weight with? and yes I'm on a low carb diet and excercise plan. I'm doing better with this than I did before and I lost 33 pounds. It's the glipizide.
Avatar f tn Hi I think if you cut out the bread that might help. When I was diagnosed I was told, no pizza or pasta or cereal, none of the obvious sugars. You could try keeping track of your carbs as that will raise your sugar. Everyone is different so everyone will react differently however I know that carbs were my downfall. I was told to keep my carbs under 40 per meal. While it sounds like you are doing really well, it could be carbs or the meds might not be working.
Avatar m tn Yes it matters Janumet is usless for a T1. carbohydrates raise BG ALL carbs raise BG. if your BG is going to high your eating too many carbs *AND OR* you need a mealtime insulin (rapid acting) like novalog or Apedra to counter act the carbs.
541196 tn?1293552936 I am a 29 year old married woman. I am diabetic and take Janumet 2x a day. I take birth control loestrin Fe. My husband and I have sex about 5-7 times a week. I have vaginal irritation and mild itching. It typically would arrive a few days after my period or a few days before. I did some research and all 3 of the mentioned above (diabetic, use of birth control and frequent sex) all could lead to yeast infections. So I bought over the counter remedies. Each time they worked...
