Avatar m tn Whereas in the past, the “face” of head and neck cancer was a man in his 60s with a history of heavy smoking and alcohol consumption, the men diagnosed with HPV oropharyngeal cancer do not smoke heavily and may still be in their 50s or younger, although older men are also affected. Dr. Wirth explains that HPV cancers show a specific pattern as to where they arise.
Avatar n tn so yes, statistically, your chances of developing head and neck cancer from hpv is significant compared to those who dont have hpv 16. and honestly, all you can do is try to take good care of your body and diet.....the rest is up to genetic dna and things beyond your control, so, try not to stress about things you cant control.
Avatar n tn s possible...and there has been a definite link to certain oral cancer and HPV (although those that are ..
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, there is no HPV-based screening test approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to identify men at risk of head and neck cancer, the same way a Pap smear identifies women at higher risk of cervical cancer, says the health letter. Thus, men should stay alert for early signs of disease and seek immediate evaluation, since with standard treatments, cure rates are 75 percent to 80 percent.
Avatar m tn After reviewing various studies that have been done on oral HPV, there seems to be a clear link between HPV and head and neck cancer. I believe the American cancer society also supports this link. That being said, ~18 months ago, a female friend of mine performed oral sex on me twice within about a 3 week period. I learned 6 months later that she had an abnormal pap, and tested positive for high risk HPV (not sure which type). That brings me to the following questions: 1.

Avatar f tn HPV does not mean you will get cancer, actually very few cases of HPV progress to cancer. So relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Women under regular gynecological care rarely get cancer, just have your Paps when you are supposed to. Good Luck.
Avatar m tn When he came he came on my penis head and now beneath my penis head i seem to have shiny red pigment. no discharge or anything, no itch or warts as of yet. is it too soon to call it HPV/Penile cancer?
Avatar m tn com/id/50388546/ns/health-cancer/ Besides obesity, the report points to another potential growing cause of cancerHPV. The report finds that two cancers on the rise, head and neck cancer and anal cancer, are caused by HPV. “HPV-associated cancers accounted for 3.3 percent of all cancer cases among women and 2 percent of the total cancer cases among men diagnosed in 2009,” the report reads. That adds up to 21,000 women and more than 13,000 men diagnosed with these cancers.
Avatar m tn I have read many article about that and seen a professor specialised on urology he said its very unlikely to get cancer of hpv and hpv causes cervic cancer for woman for man its not a big deal. 914782 tn?1243435663 I recently had CT scan of head and neck that revealed I have 4 tumors. Three of the tumors are on my jugular (the largest measures 1cm) and one is on my thyroid(measures 1.5cm and is hypodense). This all by itself has made me a nervous wreck because the first thing that comes to my mind is the big scary "C" word. I've had a 'lump' on the left side of my neck just below my ear for approx. 8 years.
Avatar m tn It is very possible these additional unknown factors—“either genetic or environmental”—are also responsible for head and neck cancers. The fact remains that cervical cancer is low in the United States and so are head and neck cancers related to HPV. Even the HPV test in the US has a problem with sensitivity making it not accurate, especially in women under 30. Most physicians that I know do not post opinion pieces to scare people and actually in practice they are supportive of their patients.

Avatar f tn Before I address your specific questions, let me assure you that your breast cancer and the risk for cancer related to HPV infections are not know to be related. These are independent processes. In addition, it is my impression that you have researched the topic and thus are aware that, for better or worse, at present HPV is a "fact of life" and most people have it or will have it at some point in the future.
377493 tn?1356502149 I know what my girlie parts feel like when they are irritated, I can't imagine what they would feel like after they were scraped off....OUCH!!!! glad you are seeing the oncology gyn too. My best friend in the whole world has been battling hpv for years now and nothing is seeming to work for her either :( She's past being sick of it all at this point.
Avatar f tn Then after few days it started to heal but the acid appears to reach the glanas (penile head) so it became dry and by time it changed and has wrinkled. What worries me is that I noticed some reddish discoloration from time to time on my penile head and it a bit changed from the way it used to look before! Should I be considered this warning sign? Please help me with this because it is getting me frustrated. P.

Avatar n tn Welcome to the forum. I'll try to help. There has been substantial media attention in the past 5 years about oral HPV (HPV-16 in particular) and its relationship to some oral cancers, some of it quite alarming. Some of the attention has referred broadly to "head and neck" cancer, but that's a broad category and really only one type, cancer of the throat, actually is related to HPV-16 and on the rise. But the bottom line is that the risks of cancer are extremely small.
Avatar n tn i been told that i have nerve damage in my neck and shoulder blades and i was wondering if this is a symptom of hiv? the last time i was sexually active was in 2001 and i've had tests done for hiv and they have come back negitive they were done at a drop in center run by the gvna and i also experience tingiling in my hands and i've lost weight within a 1 week or so period i went from 196 to 190 down to 188 is this a sign of hiv?.
Avatar m tn Despite all the publicity in recent years about one HPV type (HPV 16) causing throat cancer, that remains a rare problem and even in people with oral HPV 16 infection, the large majority don't get cancer. Based on this question and the one you asked last month on the herpes expert forum, you seem somewhat overly concerned about STD transmission by mouth or through other non-sexual routes. Such infections are extremely rare if they occur at all. Don't worry about it.
