Many organisms are responsible for ear infection. If there is a sensation of ear blocked, then it can be due to barotrauma i.e. pressure changes in ear during a plane journey, oxygen chambers or deep diving in the water. Does anyone use decongestants (Guiefenesin found in cough syrup & cold meds) to help CM to be a good consistency? I heard it helps the sperm get through more easily. A friend of mine was TTC for five years and her husband had low motility. She started taking cough syrup and within 6-12 months, got pregnant and miscarried a few weeks in (in Nov.) & now is 5 weeks pregnant again and everything is looking good. I have been TTC for two years and am wondering if I should try it. Is it safe?
I'm not sure if anything can be done at this point, but I figure I should ask. This has been so constant that I almost forget it's unusual. For as long as I can remember I almost always have some congestion, and usually at least a mild sore throat.
A year or so ago I finally went to an ENT, she said I had alergic rhinitis and prescribed fluticasone. 6 months later I went back because I still had constant congestion and usually a sore throat.
For a cough, try something like guaifenesin, like Robitussin Severe Congestion Liquagels or Mucinex. Avoid dextramethorphan, like Robitussin DM. It is okay to treat the symptoms of your cough, but if you are getting symptoms that point toward bacterial infection requiring antibiotics, make sure you see your doctor. Examples of symptoms to watch for are fever, coughing up colored phlegm, pain in your chest when you cough, shortness of breath, or any symptoms lasting more than 10 days or so.
In that case you need a mucus thinner/expectorant. Buy an over-the-counter preparation that has guaifenesin, preferably only guaifenesin. Take a tablet and drink a full glass of water. It helps greatly. In fact the worst episodes I have with asthma involve serious congestion.
You can also start using natural anti-inflammatories. These help greatly and thee are no side effects. As to diet, be very careful about sweets and too much starch. These cause a proliferation of Candida albicans.

I've had a small cough for about a month. It started with a cold, but the cold symptoms have long disappeared. I only cough a few times (basically till I can't anymore) and sometimes I feel some congestion, but I don't cough enough to move it.
Ear congestion - Blocked eustachian tubes. A bad head cold turned into a bad sinus and ear infection. Then, my ears got so congested it was hard to hear. I tried a variety of things. Finally, I went to the ear doctor, and she suggested an "ear popper". It is a small, handheld device which gently blows air into your nose. I guess it equalizes pressure inside and outside the eardrum or some such. After a day, my ears were clear most of the time.
Agree with Resilient_Mimi. Most likely the "added congestion" is just the breaking up of congestion that was already there. Guaifensen is a safe expectorant and should help considerably. Water is also great for helping to thin and expell mucous.
It sounds like you may need a second round of antibiotics though since it has taken this long to start breaking the gunk up. Be sure to call your doctor on Mondy to check in and let him know how you are doing.
I have random urine drug screens and random blood screens for alcohol. Am wanting to take Tylenol sinus congestion medicine. The ingredients are acetaminophen, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine. Will any of those ingredients caus a positive drug or alcohol test?
2 Months ago I was fitted with a Grommit but still the congestion remains I can ear the noise from the congestion all the time and the noises are getting worse , I realise this may be tinnitus but I am so sure thats its sum form of congestion that just can not be removed. anyone any idea what i can do as im being driven insane.
I had the fatigue prior to the Septra. This bilateral ear congestion (now with tinnitus) is making me crazy. Can ear problems make you really fatigued?
Can anyone tell me if there is a better way for me to deal with ear problems casued by ear congestion during flights?

any ways i've read that robitussin (guaifenesin), you should buy the plain one with no letters after it... robitussin can help loosen up cervical mucus...

Feburary 16th I woke up with a extremely painful earache and lost my ability to hear in my left ear. I went to a walk in clinic the following day for the Doctor to briefly look into my ear and said it was "buldging" she sent me home with Doxycycline and OTC Allegra and told me to come back in 3 days if there was no improvement.
Guaifenesin, how much is an Overdose? My daughter 11 years old 100 lbs (big for her age), took (the correct dose) 5mL cough and cold medicine that had the following in that dose. Guaifenesin, USP 100 mg, Dextromethorpan HBr, USP 10 mL. Phenylephedrine HCI, USB 5mg. But then she also took (the correct dose) 10 mg of a prescription medicine Guaifenesin-Codeine syrup (generic for Robitussin AC syrup). It doesn't state on the label the quantity of Guaifenesin mg in the 5mL dose.
I seen doc and had ears flushed, but ringing still is constant and earache still comes and goes. I was given Augmenting for possible ear infection, but my right ear still still constantly rings and now I have pain in the side of my neck where the eustacion tube probably runs. The ringing is driving me crazy, and I need desperate help.
Although Augmentin kills certain types of bacteria and is used for lower respiratory, ear, urinary and sinus bacterial infections, does not necessarily mean it will get help a sore throat.
To find out what type of bacteria is causing the sore throat and which antibiotic will kill that bacteria is to get a swab taken of your throat to identify the bacteria and then the correct antibiotic will be prescribed.
