Avatar m tn Diabetes is all about (blood glucose) BG numbers. The Med. community decides where to draw the line. Used to be under 200 was good then they found out people under 200 developed complications. So the redrew the line at 180 guess what they too developed complications. So it went to 160 for a short time. We do know from studys and lab work that any BG over 140 causes damage to nerves and capillaries. Now most diabetics are higher at one hour and drop by hour 2.
Avatar m tn I workout 3 or more times a week, I have MS if that figures into anything, My A1C floats around 6.1 to 6.3 when taken. My numbers are taken thee times a day, morning before eating, evening before eating dinner, and at night before bed. Usually the mornings have always been high from around 170 to 190, recently they been higher around 210 being an average. After a nice breakdast and lunch before dinner time my numbers are usually 115 to 151 being the highest. This I do not understand.
Avatar n tn Thank you. It appears that one cannot link directly to a source page on the ADA web site. Yours kept taking me to the main page. Using the ADA search button, I found the reference using key words "check glucose" which brought up a bunch of useful information. In fact it returned 750 hits. For those of you reading this, use key word(s) in the ADA site search button to retrieve information that are "not" seen on their main page and main page sub-listing categories.
Avatar n tn My waking up/fasting numbers are between 140 and 155. I read that these numbers should be between 70 and 130.
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, I've been diagnosed with idiopathic Small Fiber Neuropathy which I'm sure as many of you know is a common malady with diabetics. The "idiopathic" is hard to accept, so I've been doing a lot of reading and research myself, and requested an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. I'd like to share my results of that test and other glucose-related tests and get some opinions if I could. Fasting Glucose: Low 80s (consistently) A1c: 5.
Panda is a good book We do know carbohydrates raise BG ALL carbs raise BG, rice will raise your BG wheat will raise your BG potato will raise your BG bread will raise your BG Pasta will raise your BG In answer to the misinformed people your brain does NOT run on carbohydrates it runs on glucose. If your BG (blood Glucose) is over 70 your brain IS getting ALL the glucose it needs.
Avatar f tn Hello, my doctor found that I have "impaired glucose tolerance". My glucose numbers in tests where above >140 after two hours. He prescribed metformin 500mg (which I have been taking for a year). This week my sugar has been around 72 two hours after eating. And I haven´t felt well. The weird thing is that my glucose numbers are very low, and I still urinate very frequently...why is this???? Why are my glucose numbers so low after eating?.
Avatar m tn a1c is the average, but it is also important to see the fasting numbers. Sometimes early in diabetes only the fasting numbers may be high, and paying attention to these may give a heads up on taking action. Ideally fasting is < 100 (and even better if it's in the 80s). Normal non-diabetic a1c is < 5.0, though you may not get diagnosed as diabetic until you are 5.7 or higher.
Avatar f tn No stoppage, I continue with my daily schedule as I do a fasting glucose test and an A1c test. The former every 2 months, the latter every 3 months. Are testing your glucose with a home meter? What are your glucose levels preprandial [b4 breakfast] and postprandial [2-3 hrs after a meal]? If your levels remain elevated above normal do not stop the Metformin.
Avatar n tn Diabetes is a numbers game and it is all about eating/drinking carbohydrates aka CARBS. What are CARBS? Yes, traditional white table sugar is CARBS, but so is flour, rice, potatoes, fruit, and corn to name a few. You are in more danger from flour, rice, and potatoes than you are from a teaspoon full of sugar!!! Can you imagine eating a cup of sugar, teaspoon full by teaspoon full? Yuck.
Avatar n tn I'm confused. I have seen several postings with two digit type numbers that are not A1Cs, but self-test numbers. What is this "looks like a pen diagnostic machine" ? Is it something different that a regular glucose meter?
Avatar f tn I went back to the doctor who found my numbers had not improved but worsened after a year and told me I had impaired glucose tolerance and that I had to keep on taking 500mg metformin. She didn´t understand why my numbers didn´t improve, since I had lost 40lbs and didn´t have family history of diabetes. Another important thing to mention, is that I have been weaning from the cymbalta (antidepressant).
Avatar f tn If you google CSF lab results, you will find that an elevated glucose level is not significant. A low glucose level would be a bit more significant. Look it up on the web and hopefully that will answer your questions. Or someone in the group will come along and provide a good link. Lulu is really good at finding and providing testing links. What is your doctor telling you now?
Avatar m tn 1, fasting glucose 92). An additional fasting glucose test a few months later was normal at 94. Just a few days ago, I got another blood test and my fasting glucose was back up to 101. So in the past year, my results have been 102, 92, 94, and 101. I am 34 years old, very athletic, and not overweight at all. I am concerned about diabetes because both my aunt and uncle on my mother's side had type 1 diabetes, though my mother did not. Should I be concerned about the latest 101 result?
Avatar f tn Any body fail the glucose test? I did and now I have to be checking my blood 4 times a day but I'm confused idk if a certain number is good or bad... Since yesterday it came out 60,74,73,95 And today in the morning was 73,71,69 but then I ate a banana split and came to 105 ...
Avatar f tn I'm 31 years old, second pregnancy and was told I failed the 1 hour glucose test. The reading was 150. I'm very upset over this since I normally eat healthy and cannot pinpoint the cause. The 3 hour test will take place on Monday and I'm hoping the numbers are normal. Has anyone experienced this? Any tips?
Avatar f tn The pain is in both feet and ankles. I take five neurontin and a januvia every day because of postprandial high glucose numbers. I've had peripheral neuropathy and diabetes 2 for about 7 years now. I see a neurologist, endocrynologist, podiatrist and my primary doctor and so far no real answers.
Avatar m tn Your numbers indicated glucose out of control and you need to pay attention to what your doctor says to you. Go back and consult with your doctor so you can understand what you need to do in order to control and manage your glucose levels before they get way of hand. If you Google "diabetes complications", I guarantee you will not like what you read. Your home meter [test kit] could also be whacked giving you inaccurate test results.
Avatar m tn After reviewing my results i found it odd that my A1C is 6.0 and my Glucose level was 84 mg/dl. To add to my suspicion my job made us to blood work last month and my Glucose level was at 80 mg/dL. A1C was not measured on this exam. Do you think I should re-test? This seems strange but then again this is all very new to me. Please any insight would be very helpful.
Avatar f tn Two months ago, I learned that I was reactive hypoglycemic after a 5 hour glucose fasting test.Glucose after one hour was 188. After two was 114. After three was 128 and after four 63. My doctor told me that my glucose fasting score of 96 on a scale of 70-100 was nothing to worry about, but just bought a one touch and have noticed that in the morning before breakfast so far, I'm at between 96-113 and about 118 an hour after eating. How do I respond to these scores?
Avatar n tn sound like you have DP (dawn phenomenon) your liver decides to be a good dube and releases glucose in the morning so your body has the energy to get going. Unfortunately it ether releases to much glucose or your pancreas cant keep up with insulin so your BG rises. I take that back there is a natural hormone you can take, pig insulin. Metforman has a 30 year history and works well at keeping the liver from releasing glucose.
Avatar n tn He requested blood work prior to her followup appointment. Her glucose levels were at 480. He thought it was strange that her primary care physician wasn't doing anything to control her glucose levels. He told her to contact her doctor immediately in regards to high blood glucose. This was on Monday. She had an appointment with her primary care physician on Tuesday anyways for an unrelated issue.
Avatar n tn According to most sources, the normal range of numbers for glucose is between 4-6%. However, your numbers may be due to hormonal changes as well as other factors and I would encourage you to call your doctor and discuss this worry with him or her. Furthermore, the comment by Dr.
159619 tn?1707018272 Trust me, I thought it was impossible to manage these numbers on my own, but it is very much the case. I have been at these numbers or very close to them since 2007 and if I can do it there's hope for everyone fighting high cholesterol. Work closely with your doctor, you can do it. Make sure you run any lifestyle changes including supplements, diet changes and exercise past your doctor for their approval. Then just go do it, it can be done! Good lcuk everyone!
