glucose

6452556 tn?1381422100 Glyburide is in a class of medications called sulfonylureas which stimulate beta cells within the pancreas. The beta cells are responsible for responding to spikes or drops in glucose. When you eat a meal, your blood glucose will increase which activates your beta cells to release insulin to then lower your blood glucose and vice versa. When you have diabetes your beta cells may lose some or all of their ability to tightly control blood glucose.
Avatar n tn I have been T1 for 27 years and my 17 year old daughter, Caroline, has just been diagnosed as T1. I know what a pain it is to be totally dependent on injected insulin. And I have been looking for ways to soften the blow for Caroline. Here is my take on it. And I hope you find the ideas useful. Good news and bad news here. Bad news first. Type 1 Diabetes is is the result of an autoimmune attack on beta cells in the pancreas.
Avatar f tn Glucose intolerance is when the body does not utilise the glucose in your body properly and the fasting blood glucose level is above 6.0 mmol/L or your blood glucose level is over 7.8 mmol/L 2 hours after consuming 75g of glucose. At this stage, with life style changes and exercises, you can still avoid getting diabetes. You could say it is pre diabetes. The symptoms of glucose intolerance can be those of hyperglycaemia and also tingling sensations.
Avatar m tn s own defense system (the immune system) attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.
Avatar n tn Your pancreas is stopping working because of an immune system attack on its beta cells if you are a true type 1 diabetic. Some people do continue to make some of their own insulin, but most people eventually quit making it altogether. But this is not because of the insulin, and the amount of insulin you take has nothing to do with what happens to your pancreas. So take the amount that you need in order to normalize your glucose levels, and don't worry about it hurting you.
Avatar f tn Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas are destroyed, leading to high glucose levels in the blood and resulting in impaired metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. It's sometimes referred to as insulin dependent diabetes. We also encourage people diagnosed with diabetes type 1 to discuss anything related to their illness to get information or support.
Avatar n tn Women with PCOS have an increased risk for diabetes or glucose intolerance or insulin resistance. If you are obese with increased body mass index and if you lose weight, exercise and eat a good glycemic index diet then you can improve your PCOS. 10419881 tn?1410007218 I've been sick on and off for about two weeks. The symptoms have been a lot of different things: Headaches, Sore glands, Stiff neck, Feeling exhausted not a lot of energy Stomach discomfort and queasiness Lower bowel cramps Extreme bloating Lower abdominal back pain Feeling like urinating constantly Frequent urination. So I went to the doctor and he said that I'd need to do a blood test.
Avatar f tn For reference, insulin is produced in the pancreas by beta cells. To monitor insulin production by beta cells in the pancreas and to help determine hypoglycemia ask for a C-Peptide test. As I stated earlier ask for a thyroid test too. These two tests should go hand-in-hand to help determine why your postprandial glucose drops so rapidly.
Avatar n tn Testing positive for the GAD antibodies means that your immune system is attacking the insulin-prodcing beta cells in your pancreas. Sounds like you have identified this very early. But, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to stop it from happening. At best, the Lantus will rest your beta cells and prolong their remaining life. But the eventual outcome will remain the same - you will eventually become totally dependent on injected insulin.
5583808 tn?1370389431 7 (type 2 diabetes is over 11) which is impaired glucose intolerance aka pre diabetes. Check online for the hip to waist ratio to measure yours. Mine is 0.96 aka my waist disappeared.
Avatar n tn Type 1 is an autoimmune disease that occurs when the beta-cells within the pancreas are gradually destroyed and eventually fail to produce insulin.
Avatar m tn What are your Free T3 and Free T4 levels? Please post them, with reference ranges, which vary from lab to lab and have to come from your own report. TSH does not cause or alleviate symptoms. It's the actual thyroid hormones that cause (or alleviate) symptoms, with Free T3 correlating best. Your A1c indicates that you have diabetes and that's what's causing your symptoms of frequent urination, weight loss, etc. Are you keeping track of your daily fasting blood sugars?
Avatar f tn You are right that you can experience these sensations from nerve damage as a result of having a glucose intolerance and diabetes. Having itching skin can also be a symptom of diabetes. Make an appointment with your doctor to get checked out with regard to any muscular/skeletal issues which may be causing the sensations of the pins and needles. Lack of the Vitamin B complex group can also cause sensations of pins and needles.
Avatar n tn How does taking a beta blocker give you exercise intolerance?? Does that just mean your heart rate won't go up. Don't you get the same benefit from the exercise even if your heart rate doesn't go up?? This discussion is related to Beta Blocker and Exercise Intolerance.
Avatar m tn My Tsh came back at .49 from 1.93 where I feel great! In 15 I never had an issue! I am due to get full panel thyroid tests in 3 weeks!
4879855 tn?1360440197 You can also gain a lot of weight (especially around the belly area) with diabetes or glucose intolerance. Basically the energy isn't able to get to the cells to be utilised because the body becomes insulin resistent. This in turn leads to weight gain. Insulin converts the sugars in our blood stream to energy to be supplied to every cell in our bodies. This form of diabetes is Type 2.
Avatar n tn bacterial overgrowth was negative, lactose intolerance was negative but fructose intolerance was positive. My control number was 11 and the end number was 44...I was told anything resulting in +20 (so mine would be 31) is positive. Okay, so here are my questions...what does the 44 mean (if anything) low intolerance, high intolerance?
Avatar m tn I would suggest that you make an appointment to see your doctor and ask if you can have a glucose intolerance test and do a HBA1C blood test. a HBA1C blood test will show the average glucose levels in the blood stream over a period of approximately 3 months. It may be that you have an insulin intolerance. This means that your pancreas is producing insulin, but this is not being used adequately by your body.
