Common Questions and Answers about Glucose effect camp

glucose

Avatar n tn My 7-year-old son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in early June 2003, and since then we have been extremely conscientious about keeping his glucose under control. He is still in his honeymoon phase, so there have been a lot of fluctuations, which his endo says is normal. This summer, my son is at day camp (not one for diabetics, but for regular kids), and the counselors have been excellent at following his snack and lunch schedule.
172023 tn?1334672284 There are a couple schools of thoughts on this. One camp holds that you should not eat prior to exercising heavily, that it diverts some of the much needed blood flow from your muscles and takes it to the stomach, to aid in the digestive process. This camp claims that when they eat prior to exercise, they get stomach cramps or feel sluggish. The other school of thought (which I agree with) suggests that you have a light meal or snack prior to a work out, and a small snack afterwards.
Avatar m tn We are bringing up our 6 year old grandson. I sent him to camp for the first time yesterday. When i picked him up aftercamp, he said that he didn't want to go back. He is afraid of noises, so i don't want to traumaetized, but I want him to try it for at least this week. What should I do? By the way, he does have extreme fear of noises.
Avatar m tn (ii) exposure of lymphocytes to HIV or cholera toxoid led to decreased membrane activity of the proliferation promoter protein kinase C upon stimulation; and (iii) agents that reduced cAMP generation neutralized the effect of HIV proteins and restored lymphocyte proliferation. These studies show that the HIV-induced augmentation of cAMP/PKA activity may be a key part of the mechanism responsible for all or part of the HIV-induced anergy of T lymphocytes.
Avatar n tn I personally THANK YOU for volunteering at a Camp for Children with TYpe I. My son goes to a Diabetes camp here and Loves it. You are a giving person to be a volunteer at one of these camps. Also, I need to tell you that my sister, now 32, was diagnosed with "Type I" (not TYpe 2) at the age of 24. I am not saying this to scare you, I just want you to be informed that adults can be diagnosed with Type I. The normal BG range is 80 - 120.
Avatar m tn t have enough insulin available to help the glucose get into the cells, and to regulate how much glucose the liver releases, then the net effect is that your blood glucose will be higher after exercise.
604185 tn?1233960857 I must have slept maximum 4 hours. Would this effect the glucose test results. Should I go for test tomorrow instead of today?
Avatar n tn After the first day at camp my blood sugar was running 300+ and stayed high for the 3 days of the camp. Eating and activity levels were close to normal, and I could not explain the high blood sugar. Wondering if the altitude effects the performance of the pump, or effect of the insulin. Any suggestions would be appreciated since I'm preparing to make the camping trip again this summer.
Avatar n tn Read this web page and learn to recognize low blood sugar [glucose] symptoms and learn when to use the glucose tablets to raise your glucose levels back to normal. But by all means do as much research as you can on Hypoglycemia symptoms, treatment and control methods. If you can't locate glucose tablets, keep hard candy handy for when your glucose drops below normal. http://diabetes.emedtv.com/search.html?
Avatar n tn could the infection effect the number 128? How do I lower the glucose number? what foods effect glucose?
Avatar f tn However, strenuous exercise can have the opposite effect as your body may release stress hormones that tells your body to release available glucose for energy. 1. That last 10 minutes may have jacked up your glucose as this falls under strenuous exercise, that is, unless this has been your normal routine for months on end. 2 & 3 - Good start 4. Eat after exercising not before.
Avatar n tn The first one gives some pros and cons to using it that are interesting -- apparently, it tests tissue glucose instead of blood glucose and can be inaccurate at times. Check out these two websites to find out more information about location of the device, how it is used and how it works: http://www.aboutkidshealth.ca/ofhc/news/DB/4149.asp http://www.diabetesuffolk.com/Managing%20Diabetes/The%2072%20hour%20glucose%20sensor%20monitor.
Avatar f tn Ugh, I also have a 14 year old boy. Tough age. You know, I'd find options for him. The camp you like as one but have others. Maybe day camp is better in his mind. You will have to drive there and back OR better, if one of his friends also does the camp, you can share driving. But I think at 14, you need him to be okay with the decision to do a particular camp, especially for 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn I was just wondering if any of you guys have ever been a camper or a camp Counselor at a camp for diabetics? I was a camper at camp needlepoint in Wisconsin when I was 16. I'm 23 now and I've been a camp Counselor twice. I might be working a there again this summer, still waiting to hear back. I highly recommend diabetes camp for kids and teenagers. It truly helped me understand and take better control of my diabetes.
Avatar n tn However, others have not corroborated these findings, and a few have even reported a negative effect on glucose tolerance and blood levels. MANAGEMENT: Until further data are available, therapy with pharmacologic dosages of chromium should be administered cautiously in patients receiving insulin and/or oral antidiabetic agents due to the potential for additive risk of hypoglycemia. Patients should be monitored for changes in diabetic medication requirements. http://www.drugs.

Avatar n tn I am not quite sure what your question is about concerning the alcohol. Are you asking which to drink first, or asking what the effects might be? The answer is that alcohol lowers the liver's ability to release emergency sugars that all people store in their livers in case they haven't eaten in a long time and glucose levels drop (which can happen to non-diabetics as well as to diabetics, but which can be life-threatening to the type 1 diabetic).
Avatar n tn Cancer cells alter your pets body’s ability to metabolize dietary nutrients, including carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The effect of cancer on dog and cat glucose or "blood" sugar metabolism is most dramatic in pets. Cancer or tumor cells preferentially use anaerobic glycolysis to metabolize glucose for energy, forming lactate as the end product. Lactate is then converted back to glucose at the expense of your pet.
1661682 tn?1313135396 I don't think it would have any effect on it. the glucose test is just to measure how well your body handles sugar to determine if you're susceptible to gestational diabetes or not.
Avatar m tn I'm experiencing higher than average readings lately. Does heat have an effect? 100 degrees yesterday. Not eating anything different. No change in liquid consumption either.
Avatar m tn "when i take my blood test from my doctor everything is fine." Meaning your glucose levels? What about testing at home? What are your prandial [b4 meal] and postprandial [after meal] test results? The human body is constantly changing. What you ate last month, six months ago, or last year that didn't effect your glucose level may today. In your case, you need to test and test often to rule out any foods and liquids contributing to your problem.
2206560 tn?1354296704 I took my 1hr glucose test yesterday n today I get called that it came back high. I have to go now n test for 3 hours...my mom is diabetic. Avatar m tn Do u mean Clorox Bleach? I would imagine bleach on ur penile area would cause serious issues for u.
Avatar n tn 45 minutes after ingestion seems to be plenty of time for the medicine to start lowering his glucose levels. His non-fasting glucose seems very normal. I would guess that his reaction was indeed just that: a reaction to the glipizide. But his dad could certainly occasionally do a random glucose test on the little guy if he thinks his son is showing any symptoms of either hypoglycemia or diabetes.
