Avatar f tn Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint. Medications like glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate are being used as they are effective in reducing the pain of OA in all joints. Physical therapy plays an important role in the treatment plan of osteoarthritis. If you are not satisfied seeking second opinion will help. Do keep me posted. Take care and regards!

1295500 tn?1272459927 Hi, my questions is I have a 9 year old collie, Sheppard, husky mix dog she's probably about 90 lbs now. She seems to be having a lot of problem with her back legs. Some days she seems fine and other days she can barely get up off the floor and when she does her back legs shake. Right now what's happening is she is holding one of her legs up and walking on three legs.

Avatar m tn Pt. II -- Other ideas are chondrointon and glucosamine sulfate, which help some, don't help others. Some also find help by avoiding foods in the nightshade family. Lots of research to do.
Avatar f tn Most people with arthritis have some nutritional deficiencies, including lowered levels of vitamins A, B6, B12, and C. Glucosamine sulfate can help. The proper levels of minerals like magnesium and selenium is also important. Most arthritic patients need detoxification from heavy metals like mercury. Eliminate refined foods. Eat a whole-food diet including unrefined sugar, salt, oil, and flour, and as much organic produce as possible. Also, drink enough water.
Avatar n tn t tried it myself yet, only because I HATE taking pills, but have heard a few success stories about Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Another thing you can do is start physical therapy. Strengthening the muscles and tendons around the joints helps to slow the degenerative changes.
Avatar n tn Topical analgesic therapy with methylsalicylate or capsaicin cream may be beneficial. Oral glucosamine sulfate (1500 mg) and chondroitin sulfate (1200 mg) taken daily are also helpful. Intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid improve symptoms temporarily but typically need to be repeated periodically (about once every 6 months). Intra-articular injections of corticosteroid and anesthetic may also be helpful.
Avatar n tn The phd who I went to told me to take Olive Leaf Extract and triple the usual dose of glucosamine. After about 6 weeks of this I felt a huge difference and it made me very hopeful. Google 'arthritis help live blood analysis' and maybe you can find out more, or send me a message if you want more info.
Avatar f tn Your mom will need to take 150mg glucosamine for the rest of her life if she has osteoarthritis. It keeps the joints and their connective tissues lubricated, as they dry up as we age. Some people respond quickly, and others feel no effect at all. There are also exercises that help. The main thing is not to let the joints seize up. Keep active.
Avatar m tn Hi. Supplements to a dog's diet such as Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate, Omega Fatty Acids, Vitamin E, Selenium, and MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) all assist in decreasing inflammation and improving the body's ability to repair and strengthen tissues. Supplements, however, will not reverse structural changes in a joint such as torn cartilage, calcium deposits and advanced scar tissue.

Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar f tn Other options include omega 3, and glucosamine/chondroitin sulfate. Studies indicate that both seem to act as natural anti-inflammatories. Finally, I have had success sending patients for acupuncture to aid in their pain relief and recovery from orthopedic problems.
Avatar m tn Clopidrogrel, Nitroglycerin, Acetylsalylic Acid, Spironolactone, Furosemide, and Bisoprolol Hemifurmarate. I was wondering if there are any drug to drug interactions? and if Cosamin was the best supplement to use to help ease the pain and help cartilage rebuild? Avatar n tn Maybe something is genetically wrong with me. When I was 33 I got my first bursitis (right shoulder). The chiropractor said the bursa are like gelatin ball-bearings in the shoulder, and when one pops, the surrounding muscles become inflamed. Now 10 years later, I have it in both shoulders, and pain when I walk, in my left arch and right ankle. Once my ring finger knuckle hurt for a year. The doc said the X-Ray showed no knuckle between the finger bones.
6669309 tn?1462648142 Hi. Arthritis is very common in older dogs and the longer dogs live the more common it is becoming. Nutritional supplements Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate are two substances that have fast become the standard treatment in canine age-related arthritis. These are often sold as a single combined substance in good pet shops and quality supermarkets. Alternatively, just look up "Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate for dogs" on Google and you should find a supplier.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if any of you have this problem and how you handle it with everyday life. I have kids and a house to keep and shopping to do, etc etc. I can't just sit here and I do force myself to do things and try to "grin and bear it" but it makes the pain that much worse....just curious...
199177 tn?1490498534 Nutritional Supplements There is solid evidence indicating that glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate are effective for knee osteoarthritis. These natural compounds were found to decrease pain and increase mobility of the knee and were well tolerated and safe. Other dietary supplements, such as fish oils, also show some evidence of benefit, although more research is needed. Herbal Remedies It has been difficult to draw conclusions about the effectiveness of herbs.
Avatar n tn At any rate, there are so many remedies for joint inflammation -- MSM, chondroiton and glucosamine sulfate, proteolytic enzymes such as bromelain, quercitin, vitamin C, ginger, turmeric, boswellia, devil's claw, yucca -- I mean, the list is very long. Perhaps the best thing is to buy a good book on natural treatment of this problem since there are so many combinations of options to choose from.
572823 tn?1217209089 After several reports that MSM helped arthritis in animal models, a double-blind, placebo-controlled study suggested that 1500 mg per day MSM (alone or in combination with glucosamine sulfate) was helpful in relieving symptoms of knee osteoarthritis (Usha and Naidu 2004). Kim et al. then conducted a double-blind clinical trial of MSM for treatment of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Twenty-five patients took 6 g/day MSM and 25 patients took a placebo for 12 weeks.
1239564 tn?1268168890 menisci, cruciates and collaterals. Scans of your knee will be helpful. ( X-rays and MRI ) I would suggest you to continue physical exercise with proper footwear and also limit pressure at your knee. You can go for swimming if you can and also follow up with an orthopedician for proper diagnosis and try to achieve normal BMI. Take care!
