2025701 tn?1328923233 Not knowing the my current hepatologist was one of the internationally known doctors in the fields of hepatitis and liver transplantation but she is one of the most caring and compassionate people you will ever meet. She has given my her personal email address and any time I have a concern I can contact her directly and she will get back to me that day.
163305 tn?1333672171 I don't know the answer but I do have the same problem and have been taking the gluc. for about a year now. All I can say is it hasn't really made a difference for me. I am sure others will chime in but I am glad you asked this question and I look forward to Hector or others with a more informative answer for both of us. p.s.

Avatar m tn and she says that when she gets the cheaper Costco stuff, she can tell the difference in the stuff her RA doc tells her to get, that is decidedly more expensive... maybe they put more of the essential stuff in the more expensive stuff, I don't know...I sometimes take it, cause my joint pain just comes infrequently...probably should take it every day...I can see a difference when I give it to my little doggie, with her burgeoning arthritis....she doesn't seem to be as stiff....
1063644 tn?1278646867 The other problems can be addressed separately, such as the bladder stones, bladder infections, and the shunt. Bladder issues can be treated with cranberry juice, glucosamine and chondroitin, antibiotics based on culture and sensitivity of urine, Chinese medical formula's: Eight Righteous, and/or: Ba Zheng San, and Western herbal formula's such as:Hydrangea and Eupatorium, among others.
317787 tn?1473362051 I once was the person who could do a dozen things at the same time. Not now. The activity helps the blood flow, the water flushes the liver and kidneys and keeps you hydrated which is important also for your skin, blood pressure and muscles. Eating smaller meals does not put the stress on the liver all at one time as a large meal would since your liver works to filter everything you intake into your body at this point and at my point will sap my energy. Not as much if I eat smaller meals.
Avatar n tn I have a friend who has cirrhosis of the liver and she has trouble with her hands. There are days she can't feed herself. Is this a side effect of the cirrhosis?
Avatar m tn Stage 4, Cirrhosis of the liver is when the normal liver cells are replaced by scar tissue. The anatomy of the structure of the liver is changed and the livers surface becomes nodular replacing the smooth, shiny, nutmeg colored liver that you see in a super market of butcher shop. End-Stage Liver Disease (ESLD) is decompensated cirrhosis.
Avatar f tn I have taken bilberry plus for health eye and glucosamine HCI for health bone. Are these cause the liver? My total cholesterol is 5.5H and Triglycerides; 2.2 H . Are these worries? This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/230850'>liver function tests</a>.
Avatar m tn When we eat multivitamins, various extracts(that is in concentration and processed form from actual food), can this exhaust our organs (such as liver etc.)? I'm occasionally taking multivitamins and extracts such as bilberry, garlic, sleeping aids(Valerian etc.), zinc, glucosamine, salmon fish oil etc. Just wondering, is it more healthy(that's the idea!) to take supplements, or it actually damage some of our organs? Your help is much appreciated. Thanks!!
Avatar m tn after completing the treatment for Type 2a C. What is the risk of Glucosamine (?) to the liver if I feel like me Knee hs become as tight as a masterlock. I have gotten back to physcial exercise as before treatment. And want to continue without killing my joints.
Avatar n tn If you feel worried about your liver and liver disease see a doctor only he/she can run the tests and tell you whether you have liver disease or not.
Avatar n tn The AST and ALT were elevated (I think the AST was around 100 and the ALT was 45). Apx. 3 months later, the ALT was normal and the AST was very near normal. Today's results reflected the following: AST = 118, ALT = 177. Also included on this panel was the ALP-L =166 and the LDH1L - 230. Lipid profile was done on the second set of my blood work and looked very good. I have been taking supplements since the 3RD SET of labs here ONLY. B's,multivitamin, extra E (no extra A) and glucosamine.
Avatar f tn Yes u can take the first two.
Avatar f tn It is essential that we identify risk factors that can be modified to prevent and/or lessen the progression of HCV to fibrosis, cirrhosis and even liver cancer. These complications of chronic HCV infection will significantly contribute to the overall burden of liver disease in the U.S. and will continue to increase in the next decade." This is the first study that evaluates the relationship between alcohol and cannabis use in patients with HCV and those coinfected with HCV/HIV.
436837 tn?1293796826 Tylenol is OK, but it's really not effective for the severe inflammation of arthritis. I would go ahead and use the prescription meds, and have liver function tests run annually to make sure everything is OK in that department.
217229 tn?1192766004 Bloodwork can determine if you are chronic vs acute, although no one test can determine acute vs chronic. Usually a combination of tests are performed over a period of time in order to ascertain if you have an acute or chronic infection (or if you are transitioning from acute to chronic). It also takes an experienced doctor to interpret these test results to distinguish between acute, chronic and transitional from acute to chronic.
Avatar n tn Either we have some ongoing autoimmune after-effect from the tx, or the HCV itself changed our physiology and nervous systems, OR there may be something to the viral persistence research, which may cause ongoing immune system dysfunction, even though the virus is mostly eradicated in our bodies (as far as can be detected in blood and liver). The skeletal symptoms are very discouraging, and need to be addressed by the medical community. SVR's deserve to be HAPPY SVR's!!!!
Avatar n tn Last year the same tests resulted in SGOT of 63 and ALT of 68, but I was on lipitor at that time, and the doctor took me off of it because he suspected it was causing the problem. I have not taken any cholesterol meds in over a year. My cholesterol is good but not great. HDL 38, LDL 131. I am overweight but muscular. I am 5'9" and weigh 230, but my body fat % is only 15 %. I am trying to lose down to about 200-210.
211940 tn?1267884866 The acromion is the large bursa in the shoulder that protects and cushions the tendons as they glide beneath the shoulder blade. With repetitive activities above shoulder level, overuse, aging or falls, this bursa may become inflamed, producing noises when the shoulder is moved. Pain coming from shoulder bursitis is frequently felt halfway down the upper arm toward the elbow.
Avatar n tn There are 2 supplements that i have found that sound like they would help me, Cissus quadrangularis and another one containing glucosamine and collagen hydrosylate. Avatar n tn My latest blood work aweek ago was alt 63, ggt 108 these are the only flags and no liver mass. I know having HCV is bad but I don't know how bad it is by these reading. thanks for the good words..
Avatar f tn My dog is 12 year old and has arthrits and the vet told me to use glucosamine. In the summer time he does not need it. Now my dog is whimpering and shakeing, when I pet him he stops. This started a couple of days ago. The weather got really cold fast and I just started him back on glucosamine. Does this sound like the arthrits acting up or do I need to worry? How much glucosamine can I give him? I hate when my dog is in pain, I have had him since I was in kindergarden.
931217 tn?1283484935 Today's popular press often extols the supposed virtues of more "natural" ways of living, and approaching illness. There are a wide variety of theories and modalities, that together make up the broad category known as "complementary and alternative medicine (and veterinary medicine)." These approaches to health and disease are not monolithic and therefore their merits or lack thereof cannot be discussed as a category. Each must be examined alone.
765775 tn?1366028291 I already take Turmeric, Dandelion Root, and Milk Thistle everyday for the benefits of cleansing the liver of toxins because I have to take so much medication. I have tried the MSM, Glucosamine, and Chondroitan combination also, but for some reason when I take that I get an itchy rash. My dogs get that suppliment everyday and it works wonders for them.
Avatar n tn There is no reliable and effective therapy for chronic hepatitis C since interferon and antivirals work no more than 30% of the time, and liver transplant surgery is uncertain and tentative over the long run. This is because, ultimately, residual hepatitis C viremia infects the new liver. Furthermore, liver transplantation can be painful, disabling and extremely costly.
Avatar n tn The next morning I thought, how rude of me, her birthday is on the 22nd and I didn't even mention Happy Birthday. So the next morning I call and I'm leaving a message, explaining what a dork I am and that I couldn't remember if her birthday was the 22nd or the 23rd, but Happy Birthday. Well she picks up, and tells me, "that's okay honey, It was January 22nd, and this is February 22nd, and it's okay.
