Common Questions and Answers about Glipizide in pregnancy

glucotrol

Avatar n tn m unsure on the dosage equivalency of Glipizide vs Glyburide. Both are in the same class of diabetes medications but Glipizide is short/rapid acting while Glyburide is slow/long acting. If your husbands fasting blood sugar levels are elevating it may be the reason for the change.
Avatar f tn glipizide is in the Sulfonylurea class of drugs. Sulfonylurea drugs work by forcing the pancreas to make more insulin, insulin lowers BG. So if you dont eat and continue to take glipizide you run the risk of getting hypos. I say the risk as it depends what your BG is and how much glipizide lowers your BG. If you are on glipizide you should have a BG test meter to check your BG. So test to see how your BG is doing.
Avatar f tn Pancreatitis is nothing to fool with. Now since I posted my question I decreased my dose to once a day in the morning of glipizide and I immediately lost weight the next day. And I have lost .4 every a day doing this, so it does cause weight gain, but works well on my sugars and does not make me sick like every drug I've tried. I could cut it as long as I'm being good with my excercise, and low carb diet. I know how to lose weight, I've lost 30lbs last year.
647391 tn?1275016633 "Do you take Glipizide once a day? " Yes, usually around 5-6am. I eat breakfast 30-45 minutes later. "If so, what is your blood sugars at the end of day." <120 mg/dl "I think the glipizide helps, but doesn't last the day." Don't rely on medications to do all the work for you. There there to 'help' you. Do you exercise and break sweat for 60 minutes daily? Are you at normal body weight? Are you eating a proper diabetic diet?
Avatar n tn I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. No snacks. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
4117735 tn?1349962369 I was in the same boat, talk to Dr. about it, I made the decision to start insulin and it worked out fine. I was scared at first but with the new pens that they have it is really easy.
2053416 tn?1330411192 I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
Avatar f tn For example, pre-walk BG was 90, post-walk BG was 102, 60 minutes later BG was 202! I freaked out, took a glipizide (which I rarely use anymore), and watched my BG go down rapidly to 100 within the hour. Why does this happen? How do I manage pre/post exercise?
Avatar n tn I have elevated liver enzymes due to hepatic adenoma. Currently taking glipizide for high blood sugar, but is causing side effects. Weight gain, extreme low blood sugar, restless sleep. What can I take instead that will not affect the liver?
Avatar n tn I was on metformin and had no issures, than she switched mr to glipizide 5 mg for a week 1 daily and than after 1 week raise it to 2 daily, so that may be problem in it self.
Avatar f tn can the medication Glipizide for diabetes interfere with the orasure test results? can anyone seroconvert after 14 weeks?
Avatar m tn That happened to me with metformin and my doctor switched me to glipizide. Now my numbers are going in the right direction. I think you need to complain to your doctor and find what works for you.
Avatar n tn I don't see any harm in checking your blood sugar in order to monitor it. I'm quite surprised to see that your doctor said against it. Since i do not know your condition fully so i cannot jump into conclusion. If you are feeling uncomfortable telling your doctor that your blood sugar is so HIGH, i would recommend seeing another doc. Normal BS is around 70-130 mg/dL....yours being quite high does pose some serious concern. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn Hello, welcome here. One of the most important factors for controlling or even potentially reversing Chronic Kidney Disease, if it is caused by diabetes, is to have excellent control of blood sugar. So questions are: 1. What is your Hba1c. A normal hba1c is < 5.0. If you want to control your diabetes well you should be aiming for an hba1c as close to 5 as you can safely manage. 2. Are you monitoring your blood sugars? What is your typical fasting and post eating numbers?
Avatar m tn Last September I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I started taking Glipizide 5mg in the am along with meds for blood pressure. I also made major life style changes. I exercise an hour a day five days a week now. I eat extremely heathy. I lost 30 lbs. I'm sleeping again. I changed jobs. I'm still very overweight, but all my numbers are now in the normal range or close to it.
Avatar n tn Recently my 19 month old grandson got a hold of his dad's glipizide and chewed up 1- 1 1/2 tablets, they got most of the second one out of his mouth. took him to the hospital where they immediately ran serum glucose levels, which came out to 47. this was within 45 min. of the ingestion. they started a glucose drip and fed him graham crackers and gator aide and monitored him overnight. My question is .....

Avatar n tn Gliclazide? Did you mean to say Glipizide? When writing names of medications it is important to spell them correctly as printed on the bottle/vile/container. Medication adjustments and/or changes only can be answered by your attending physician as he/she has access to your medical records/history to provide the correct evaluation, not strangers on Internet public health forums.
Avatar n tn Hi i am a 31yrs old male 5'11" - 315lbs 4 years ago i was 6'2"_i am worried about all the conditions i am developing i was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 3 years ago, my levels of glucose are always up & down i also take some (anti depressants) (trozadone & prozac) along with my glyburide & glipizide) i just had a blood test done and i was diagnosed with Low T @ 200 is this the reason why my penis gets soft while am doing sex w/o ejaculating or my sudden change on
Avatar n tn i can not get my sugars below 400 i am on metformin500 mg twice a day glipizide 10mg 2 a day and20 units of levermir at night
Avatar f tn I agree with the other posters about a low-carb diet. Since I'm an early riser, eating small meals every two hours allows me to take in something at least 4 times daily, as well as walking exercise plus housework. I also reorganized my meals so that my heaviest meal is in the middle of the day rather than in the evening when I'm less active, even with late-day walking. If it's practical, you should keep a supply of health bars in your desk or locker at work to act as a small meal.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what type of reaction one is likely to get by mixing Metformin and Victoza with meds for Hep C? These are non insulin meds. I am particularly interested in the interaction with Victoza which is a good stabilizer. Both of these meds can cause some stomach distress.
