647391 tn?1275016633 I routinely have blood sugars in the 150 range my A!C has been 7.7 and 8.2. I was suppose to have some foot surgery, but it was cancel because of the A1c. It is the 1st time I was told I couldn't have surgery because of the diabetes. My regular doctor signed off on me having surgery. The foot surgeon wouldn't do it. I just didn't think my blood sugar level was of any concern.
Avatar f tn Eventually I went on 1000mg twice a day Janumet, and 2.5XL Glipizide, it worked for a while. I recently gained 8 lbs. but not sure it was the glipizide. On my second day of Victoza, so far ok. Interested to hear what kind of reaction you had to Victoza.
Avatar n tn is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor
Avatar f tn I am a type 2 diabetic and I concerned about fasting (religious) and taking glipizide. I have been on metformin for over 14 years and have had to recently add glucotrol to my regimen. I do not have any low blood sugar symptoms at all and I am scared of the time I have to restrain from eating. Is any one else ever dealt with this?
Avatar n tn I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. No snacks. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Avatar f tn A sulfite reaction is different from a sulfonamide allergy (a reaction to sulfa drugs) because sulfites and sulfonamides are entirely different chemicals and have unrelated mechanisms of reaction. A person sensitive to sulfites is no more likely to be allergic to sulfonamides than any other individual and vice versa. " http://www.itmonline.org/arts/sulfa.
2053416 tn?1330411192 Due to a lot of weight gain. My doctor took me off actos and put me on glumetza. I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
4117735 tn?1349962369 The reason asked is that I have been monitoring my glucose and it has been between 200 - 300, and I would like to lower my readings.
Avatar n tn If I am allergic to tetracycline, a sulfa drug, would I be allergic to diamox, another sulfa drug? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/304392'>pseudo papilledema</a>.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Cipro for and URI. I started to itch so my doctor told me to discontinue it because I am allergic to Sulfa drugs. I have been itching on my thighs, arms, face, hands, ears and elbows. My eyes also swell when I scratch I see bruises. What could possibly be wrong with me.. My blood work was normal.
Avatar n tn It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
1770925 tn?1365618522 What are your neurological symptoms and has a physician correctly attributed them to sulfa drugs? There is no known peripheral neuropathy with the use of cephalexim, particularly short-term use. You can also check with the pharmacist. Sulfa drugs can cause allergies and hypersensitivity reactions, one particular one is steven johnson’s where you can get reddish purple rashes all over the body. Neurological complications known are dizziness, hallucinations etc. Wishing you all the best.
Avatar f tn I would say that it potentially could be caused by the sulfa medication. Sulfa drugs have an effect on every body system. If it continues, call the doctor that prescribed to make sure he/she doesn't want to see you.
Avatar f tn The pharmacist had stated that Diamox is a level 2 derivative of Sulfa and that the chance of an allergic reaction is there but small. My big concern is that I was diagnosed with a Sulfa allergy as a child when a Sulfa Based Opthalmic Ointment was used to treat an eye infection and I broke out in hives after using the drug. My daughter used Sulfa Antibiotics to treat a UTI and over the course of a week her face swelled up.
Avatar m tn If methionine is SULFUR and I am allergic to SULFA - two different things, then why would I need to worry about having the liptropic injection? I have had 2 injections so far, with no issues but I know SULFA stays in your system quite awhile and can accumulate to the point where I would have a reaction at some point so if there are even trace amounts of SULFA (not SULFUR) in methionine then I could end up having a reaction.
341655 tn?1240368839 m a 22 year old with steroid induced diabetes and my blood sugar has been in the lows of 42-60, I ate and had some glucose gel which brought it into the 80's but about an hour later it dropped again to 42 where I had symptoms of extreme hunger, shakiness, heaviness in my legs and sweating. I'm worried its going to crash into the night and I could go into a diabetic coma during sleep, if thats possible?
Avatar f tn I am on 3 tablets a day of each of Glipizide (5mg) and Metformin (500mg). I take the Glipizide equally spaced out during the day but the Metformin one at lunchtime and two with my evening meal as instructed.
Avatar n tn am now taking glipizide 5 mg along with colestipol 1gr twice daily and gabapentin 300mg 3 times daily and my blood sugar levels are staying high. First time on all these meds and my sugar levels were fine on lisonpril. Could one of thse being causing the high readings. My diet is the same if not lower in sugar and calories.
Avatar n tn I have elevated liver enzymes due to hepatic adenoma. Currently taking glipizide for high blood sugar, but is causing side effects. Weight gain, extreme low blood sugar, restless sleep. What can I take instead that will not affect the liver?
Avatar f tn 2. It is ok to take both an ACE and ARB and there have been some trials using both for blood pressure management. We just have to be very careful and watch your kidney function because both medications can affect the kidney funtion so make sure your physician checks your kidney function 1-2 weeks after being on both medications. Hope this helps.

Avatar f tn The structure is very specific, and although many other drugs may contain sulfur, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and a benzene ring, they are not "sulfa" drugs unless they are arranged as the "sulfa" chain. The original sulfa drugs were antibiotics. My concern is this doctor seems to be in a rush to either do RAI or surgery. He really didn't want to do the surgery because she is getting married in almost a year to this date. I'm scared to death about the RAI.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year prior to HCV. I've used metformin, glipizide and actos (pioglitizone) for eight years now for DM2 management; including during both HCV treatments. I was eventually successful with interferon therapy, for what it's worth. I can't comment on the victoza; I have no personal experience with it. Reducing insulin resistance might be critical to succesful inteferon-based therapy as well.
Avatar f tn ) I am a regular on this site now and i truely appreciate the attention and concern the members show for the people who have worries/question (which can be quite overwhelming at times!) Hats off to you guys who devote time from their busy lives in answering our questions .
Avatar m tn That happened to me with metformin and my doctor switched me to glipizide. Now my numbers are going in the right direction. I think you need to complain to your doctor and find what works for you.
Avatar f tn My sister had a similar reaction to hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), and the doctor said it was because she was allergic to sulfa. My sister had not put her sulfa allergy on her medical history form at the cardiologist's office, because the sulfa reaction had been so long ago. When the doctor prescribed HCTZ, which evidently has sulfa in it, my sister reacted to that. There are lots and lots of other blood pressure drugs beside the three or so that you have tried.
